Short and insightful. I got this books because I was reading Matthew and wanted to know who the random dead people were that resurrected when Jesus did. The Bishop answers that question and many more I didn't know to ask.

The book is probably only about 50, 12 pt. single-spaced Times New Roman pages long, but it packs a lot of theological meat in a little package as it overviews the darkness, earthquake, torn veil, opened graves, undisturbed grave clothes, and resurrected saints that occurred at the crucifixon/resurrection.

The book was very Christ-centered and practical, and I will probably come back to it to read again around Easter.

This little gem of a book made me look more closely at Jesus' death and resurrection, giving me new perspective on the events, awakening a new understanding of the Scriptures. Highly recommend!

well. this one was interesting. The first chapter talked about the darkness, when Jesus hung on the cross. The second chapter Talked about the tearing of the curtain. The third chapter the earthquake that occured after Jesus's triumphant shout. The fourth chapter talks about the opening of the graves and rocks splitting in half. The fifth chapter talks about jesus's linens he was wearing in the tomb. And chapter 6 talks about the resurection, and that when Jesus rose from the dead, so did the saint's who died before Jesus. As I read this i had a new understand of the scriptures. I gave this book 5 stars

5. Mexico, Washington, Pakistan, India, New Hampshire, Northeast US, South East Asia (excepting Vietnam) and many other will join NWO without armed resistance.

6. China and her allies gather Rev. 16:12, 6th vial to fight Anti-Christ, NWO military forces at Armageddon, Rev. 16:13-16.

7. The following final interpretation of the book of Revelation was not part of this revelation but was revealed to me in the Holy Ghost from approximately 2008-present after years of studying the book of Revelation while living with a domestic violence abuser from 2000- 2012. My study of the book of Revelation and the Holy Bible began in 2002, however, it was not until 2006 that I began devoting my study to the King James exclusively.

Time period of 7 vials is the last 45 days before Jesus Christ returns on the clouds of heaven with all the Holy Saints and Angels, clothed in shining white (linen) robes that sparkle like diamonds. If you notice how the sun can shine and sparkle on the water this is exactly what they look like. Those who have been beheaded for their faith, not taking the mark of the beast, along with all those who have died in Christ will be resurrected 1st. Then those who are alive and remain, who have survived and have not taken the mark of the beast (I believe this could possibly be the 144,000, only 144,000 surviving Christians left on the earth at the time of Christ’s second coming). I agree with William Nicholson’s assessment in the Six Miracles of Calvary that the 2 witness are most likely Enoch and Elijah. The last week before Christ’s return is when the sun turns black and the moon to blood. The sky rolls back as a scroll…

Please remember this is still a work in progress. My notes are handwritten in pencil and difficult to read, however I believe the is the bulk of the interpretation. Hopefully future revisions will be to make this more accessible for those not as familiar with the book of Revelation or the Holy Bible KJB as well as more detailed.

This is a great rendition of the biblical meaning of the Miracles of Calvary. Thought provoking and heart opening to many often obscure events recorded on Scripture.

When we come to Calvary, we naturally focus on the death of Jesus on the cross. In doing so, however, we may fail to consider significant miracles that surrounded his death and what they teach us. Nicholson identifies six miracles that he links directly to the cross and explains what they tell us about what Jesus achieved there and what it means for us.

William Nicholson (1822-1901) was an American Christian minister and college professor, who was converted through and first served in the Methodist Church. He then migrated via the Protestant Episcopal Church to the Reformed Episcopal Church, where he was ordained a bishop. Although he died in 1901, The Six Miracles of Calvary was not published (by The Moody Press in Chicago) until 1927, although the individual sermons on which it is based appeared in the Moody Bible Institute Monthly. This 2001 edition has been updated by Dan Schaeffer.

The six miracles that Nicholson identifies are: midday darkness, the tearing of the temple curtain, a miraculous earthquake, the opening of specific graves, Jesus’ undisturbed grave clothes and the revival of dead saints. All but one of these events are recorded in Matthew’s Gospel and the odd one out appears in John’s Gospel.

Nicholson examines each of these events carefully from Scripture to see what actually happened and in what precise order, how the events were linked to each other and to the death of Jesus, and the fact that they were supernatural events. He proceeds to explain how each event shows what God was doing at the cross and what it all means for Christian believers.

He helpfully distinguishes between an unnatural event (one resulting from the direct intervention of God) and a supernatural event (one that goes beyond normal, natural forces). Thus, the earthquake is both unnatural, in that it is timed to coincide with the death of Jesus, but also supernatural in that its effects are limited, focused and precise.

Nicholson describes the earthquake of Calvary is an answer to the earthquake of Sinai. The earthquake of Sinai accompanied the giving of the Law that brought death and condemnation to guilty sinners. The earthquake of Calvary accompanied the death of God’s Son as a once and for all sacrifice that did away with sin and brought life to sinners. He compares them in this way:

Because the earthquake had to bear witness to the teaching of Sinai first, it then had to bear witness to an equal reality in the teachings of Calvary. Whereas at Sinai the earth shook as if convulsed with pain, at Calvary the earth shook as if overcome with joy. One earthquake answered the other. In the meantime, from the lessons of both, we are taught to say, “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other” (Psalm 85:10).

Nicholson tackles difficult questions that his subject raises head on. In the chapter on the revival of dead saints in Jerusalem he asks, How were they raised, with natural or resurrection bodies? How did Elijah and Moses appear at Christ’s Transfiguration? Do Enoch and Elijah, who never died, now have a natural body or a resurrection body like Christ’s? Nicholson makes a clear, Biblical case for his conclusions.

I would like the author to have gone on to give a little more practical and devotional application in each chapter but this is a very good little book to help you reflect afresh on all that took place at Calvary—perhaps ideal for reading in the days before Easter.

A rather quick read, Nicholson takes us on a detailed journey surrounding the death of Christ. While some of his interpretations do seem to wander a bit from the text and into the realm of nice ideas, as a whole his detailed consideration of the six miracles of Calvary do promote consideration and reflection. I found his exploration of Jesus' grave clothes to be the most far-fetched, while the three hours of darkness and opening of the tombs to be awe-inspiring and challenging.

Definitely worth a read, and personal biblical reflection is encouraged.

This small book takes the reader through the six miracles associated with Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. From the darkness that descended when Jesus died to the revival of the dead saints in the Jerusalem graveyard after he was resurrected, this follows these events and looks at the meaning and inspiration that they give to us in the present day. Originally written in 1927, this has been updated to today's language by Dan Schaffer, making it easier for the common layman to understand. While it tends to drone a little, it is an informative read and an enjoyable experience.
