Instead, she finds the perfect man.

For Dax, a naked woman asleep in his bed when he thought his rental would have been available is the last thing he expected to find on his day off.

He could walk away... but he can't.

For there's something about Harlow James that he just can't turn away from.

She's also broken.

Set amidst the enchanting landscape of Taos, New Mexico, Everything She Ever Wanted is a contemporary emotional romance that explores one woman’s search for the things that really matter, like love and family, and where losing her way turns out to be the best prescription to finding herself... and falling in love.

Overall Opinion: Hmmm...this is a tough one. I slept on it so I can think about how I should rate it, and I'm still not sure. I think, overall, I was disappointed. There were just too many things that bothered me!

Here are some BIG SPOILERS to break down my issues, so please click at your own risk ;)

I can't bring myself to give more than a 2 star rating for this, especially with those big issues.

On the other hand...I LOVED that his was set in New Mexico! I grew up and live here (with ~decade in Texas in between), so it was really cool to have it as a setting! I haven't spent a lot of time in that particular area, but there are some cultural things that I loved reading in the story (like the food). The author must be a New Mexican because of how she wrote about the area :)

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Harlow and Dax's story. Harlow is going through some major changes in her life and has found herself renting a house in Taos, New Mexico just to get some peace. Dax ends up at his house to find out it has been rented out, and he is instantly drawn to Harlow. He feels automatically protective of her, and wants to make sure she is ok. After a not-so-pleasant introduction, they form a friendship and spend a good bit of time together. They have some sexy times and some drama when getting back to the real world...but they do get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Halow and Dax's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the abrupt ending. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: Yes. They only spend about 5 days together in total. I felt like (especially with the H) that it was a little OTT and unbelievable at times.

H rating: 2.5 stars. Dax. There was something a little off in his characterization. I think he was written a little too effeminate for my tastes. He would talk about butterflies in his stomach all the time, and he was kind of OTT instalove for my likes too. And then it was like the author tried to correct that by throwing in crude comments about the h's tits, how he was constantly hard, or even (in a few cases) how he used to be a manwhore. I just found him confusing TBH.

h rating: 2 stars. Harlow. Yeah...she pissed me off. I couldn't forgive her for the way she behaved.

Sadness level: Low. No tissues needed.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They have some ok chemistry and scenes.

Descriptive sex: Yes.

Safe sex: Yes and no. Condoms are used at first. After STD and birth control talk, they go without. I don't remember any mention of h's previous practices, but I think the H mentioned never going without before. (see above spoiler in "overall opinion")

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not IMO

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This didn't have nearly enough closure. The ending felt really abrupt. . This is yet another book where the conflict is resolved right before the end, and I just didn't get enough time to feel like it's anything more than a HFN ending.

How I got it: I got it on loan through booklending.com from a sweet GR friend :)

Safety: I'd call this one Safe with exception

Wow! This came with heaps of drama! Shamelessly, I loved it! (gotta love it when a book makes you both laugh and cry within the same page.)

Dr Harlow James is a successful pediatric transplant surgeon - but her personal life hit the skids 6 months ago. She did the only thing she thought she could she ran, well drove, far away from New York. Approaching 40 - in the midst of a messy divorce, dealing with the traumatic still birth of son, and the pending termination of her employment - she takes off in car (ala Thelma & Louise) across the country and ends up in Taos, NM - off the grid and in a very bad place emotionally.

Dax Drexel is a successful artisan of custom woodworking - and as God or Fate or whoever would have it - builder of the self-sustaining green home that Harlow lands in at the end of her cross-country journey.

Sparks fly as they "collide" in their first "official" meeting. Dax can't seem to get her out of his mind and or stay away. Harlow begins to laugh and smile again - and struggles with her attraction to a young man. The tension and draw between these two is undeniable and sparks and sheets flying is inevitable.

Can they survive the drama that Harlow is running from and the reactions of his friends and family? Well, now why would I tell you when you can read it for yourself!

Absolutely adored this journey!

This was hard to rate in some parts it was a four star read, loved the fact that the age cap was that the heroine was older than the hero, not something I read enough of. But in some parts it was lacking, didn't always agree with the heroine chooses and it didn't feel intriguing to read. The dynamic with some characters wasn't always realistic and I hate the trope with keeping secrets from each other is a Good way to cause tension, I agree but it's terrible ingredient for a good relationship

Overall.
Hm. So this is one of the books that really make me wish I could give actual X.5* ratings becuuuzz I did get through it fast. High enjoyability, however, I am plagued by the mayor suspicion that this is only because the only alternative I had with me while I was reading this, was Triumph of the City: How Our Greatest Invention Makes Us Richer, Smarter, Greener, Healthier and Happier, an absolute disappointment. It simply wasn't what I hoped for, too many provocative statements, too little science. So I enjoyed this instead, thanks for that, Liz.

Still, I have read better books. Everything she ever wanted was a very pleasant read that had no mayor eye-roll moments - at least not to overly cheesy scenes or anything. It made me relate to real-life moments a lot which I consider a great achievement. I liked the honesty of what it is like to lose a baby and how you overcome humiliation at its finest.

Obviously, it was also a very cute story. I also discovered my passion for romances where the woman is the older one but they are both within all the legal requirements to not make it disgusting.

I've really enjoyed this nice, hot and touching book.

Liz Durano delivered a good story but at times it was too fast and it seems to me that something was missing.I'm so glad that the author is working on an Epilogue,I can't wait to read more about these characters.

I really appreciated that Harlow and Dax perfectly show the strengths and weaknesses of their different age,but they feel safe and truly respected in each other company.

"But I know now that I don't have to fit in anywhere to feel whole.I'm heading home, even though I don't exactly know where home is anymore, not after finding it here at the Pearl...and in Dax's arms."

The story takes place in New Mexico,I have to admit I knew nothing about this state but when I finished this book I was so curious I added Taos to my Dreaming Places to visit.

Too many tropes that I dislike.

I had reservations about this book just from the title of the series: A Different Kind of Love.
Since when is age gap different? It's not even a taboo. Is it supposed to be different because the FMC is older than the MMC? How....1990's. Meh

TW: Suicide attempt, cheating, miscarriage(s), child loss, still birth,

3 1/2 stars -

First of all this story isn't for everyone. The h is 13 years older than the H. She's 40, he's 27. Second, the h

With all that being said, I enjoyed this story. Werid I know, lol, but I must've been in the mood for some toy-boy fun. I quite enjoyed the age difference but wish the author would've added more angst to that. It seemed to not bother the h much at all which seemed unrealistic. I mean, what woman wouldn't have some serious reservations about being in a relationship with a man so much younger? I was looking forward to reading more about that and him being super pissed about it - lol. There was one small scene but really imo the age thing seemed downplayed a lot. Yes, the H was somewhat immature and not this super bad ass alpha that I love but he was decent. The h bugged the crap out of me when she but I enjoyed her back story. There was a HEA and a good epilogue. All-in-all a well written ow/ym story.

Demasiado largo, demasiado plano, demasiado tonto a veces.

3 tried hard to be different Stars

This has great potential but fell short. I think the reason is because it did a massive change of pace at the 60% mark. The male MC showed new aggression we never saw before and flipped out at a very weird moment. Then it felt rushed and we were told everything that happened versus being shown as earlier in the book. So again had such great potential because the story and the characters were interesting and different but the last of the execution feel short.
I don’t need the whole series but will try one more and see what happens.

I read an early version of Liz Durano's Everything She Ever Wanted on Wattpad and later volunteered to be a beta reader for the updated version. Durano's novel takes the reader on a journey to Taos, New Mexico and later, to New York, as it follows the adventures of its main character, Harlow James.

Harlow is a highly skilled and successful pediatric transplant surgeon living in New York who is in the midst of a shattering divorce from her equally successful surgeon husband, Jeff. Jeff has not only cheated on Harlow but is newly engaged to the woman with whom he has cheated. Despondent from the rough demise of her relationship, recent miscarriage, and false rumors that have begun to plague her at work and chip away at her character, Harlow is at the end of her rope. When she discovers that the hospital where she is employed is being pressured by Jeff to let her go, it is the final straw that drives Harlow, literally, out of the state and into the remote desert. Haunted by memories of her stillborn child, her marriage and professional reputation in ruins, Harlow purchases a gun on her way to Taos with the intention of ending her life.

After arriving in an off-grid area of Taos and paying cash to rent a quirky, hand-built, cleverly self-sustaining home known as the Pearl, Harlow takes a moment to reflect on her situation and indulge in some chocolate, wine and tears before stepping outside into the darkness with the gun. After drunkenly deciding that it's not quite the right moment, Harlow returns to the Pearl and passes out.

Dax Drexel, the 27 year-old owner and creator of the Pearl, stops by later and is surprised to find the premises occupied earlier than he had previously expected. He stumbles across Harlow in her unconscious state and although he finds himself attracted to the strange, beautiful woman in his bed, he's confused and troubled by what appears to be a suicide note nearby. Dax keeps what he has seen to himself and returns the following day with a revised rental agreement. What ensues is a less than agreeable encounter but the fragile, defensive, and yes, older (40 years to be exact) woman turns out to be intriguing and Dax is undeniably drawn to her. Undeterred by Harlow's unfriendly attitude, Dax begins reaching out to her and Harlow soon finds herself softening toward him.

Harlow begins spending her days with Dax as he shares the hidden treasures of Taos with her: desert hikes; hot springs; wine tasting. As they get to know each other, Dax's appreciation and understanding of who Harlow truly is beneath her hard exterior allows her to let go and discover the many ways in which she had mistakenly learned to believe deeply ingrained assumptions about herself. Like Harlow, there's more to Dax than meets the eye. Although he is kind and patient, Dax struggles with anger issues. Despite his striking looks and the fact the he happens to be an extremely talented carpenter and successful businessman, Dax remains humble. A maker of highly sought-after, custom built furniture, Dax has a long list of clients who are willing to pay -- and wait -- for his Japanese-influenced works of art. Harlow is touched by the craftsmanship of Dax's pieces and feels a kinship with his dedication and work ethic.

When Harlow meets Dax's extended family and friends, she realizes that their lively and caring interactions are what have been missing from her life. Dax's youthful outlook, playfulness and attentiveness are a welcome respite from the emotional beatings Harlow has endured. As Dax gently breaks down her barriers, Harlow finds herself falling in love with him despite her reservations about their age difference and the fact that she is still technically married to Jeff. As the two grow closer, Dax's friends and family become concerned for Dax and begin questioning the validity of the relationship as the marked difference between their ages inevitably presents itself as the central issue that leads to unavoidable conflict.

Everything She Ever Wanted is a moving, beautifully written story of a woman discovering aspects of herself that had never been given a chance to flourish while confronting the lies that had eroded her confidence over time and kept her from being honest with the one person most deserving of the truth. Those familiar with the state of New Mexico will no doubt enjoy how the passionate connection between Harlow and Dax plays out fittingly against the wild, natural beauty of the Taos desert. For readers who have never visited Taos or New Mexico for that matter, Durano's accurate and lovingly detailed descriptions of the state's sweeping landscapes, fragrant flora, delicious food and vibrant culture provide an inviting introduction to "Land of Enchantment." Like the chocolate that Harlow enjoys so much, the emotional journey of Durano's unique story is both rich and satisfying.

Well... so far... this book... Blehhh.. that about how I feel about it. I'm at 20%... I'm gonna give it until 30%... how long do you read when the story is okay but not really awesome? #toDNFornotDNF

Well... it became a no brainer when the main character who is a transplant surgeon and smart woman said to herself “Am I so desperate to have sex with the first man to cross my line of vision that I'm already acting like a whore?” DNF 👎🏻

"I was provided with a free copy of this book by Liz Durano so I could give an honest review."

What a captivating, fast page turning, love story was that!!! Why, Liz Durano you earned a spot in my most favorite authors category, with only reading one of your books. Sure, I'm not a bookwarm like some other girls, who earned that title fair enough, but when I read a really good book, I'm all over the author's talent to not make the reader's attention be else where.

"Everything she ever wanted" is starting with a boom! A jaw dropping scene, so unexpectedly intimidating and complicated, that every line of thought that Harlow's mind played, was a crack in my own heart. Thank God it was over and the good ones came after. But this scene, this night in Harlow's world, is what many women all over the world are trying to handle in their lives the same way or an other, and Liz captivated Harlow's inside war with very interesting way. We, women are the most sensitive ones and the most determined when it comes to decisions. It's a very strange compination!!

Reading the synopsis is a welcome sight that it's written from a man's perspective. I love reading books that are narrated by men character or include their perspectives as well. It always opens a new door into the mind of men, at how they are thinking about stuff or, more specifically, women. The man who's words are in the synopsis is the most humble, caring, down to earth, beautiful young man I've ever met in the history of books, I've read so far. Trust me on that!!!

Dax Drexel, a talented carpenter, with many awards in his sleeves from his creations and a bright soul in his heart, is Harlow's safety net with the real world. Growning up in a loving, caring family, at Taos New Mexico, away from civilization and big cities, Dax had the most simple life a kid could have and at the same time the most experienced and educated one. Though, he wasn't an easy child to keep an eye on, the care of his mother and grandma created the best character of a man can anyone have in their life, a man that you can lean on and feel safe. Yes, I loved Dax a lot!! And I'm sure you would love him too, just like...Harlow did.

Harlow's world broke into small pieces after the life and the carrier she build with nothing but her motto to be successful, were fly away from her. Dr. Harlow James, one of the top pediatric kidney transplant surgeons in New York, hasn't taking well the fact that her husband filed for a divorse, after all the personal drama they had lived, and also that the hospital she has working as an Assistant Director of transplant surgery has terminated their collaboration. Having no one to lay on, she left New York, alone, and traveled West, for six months, until she found the perfect place to end her travel...and find herself.

At the most, isolated, off grid area of Taos, into an Earthship with a breathtaking view and unique desing, Harlow and Dax, lived the most exquisite six days of their lives. Dax was for Harlow, an other kind of lifestyle, more simple, more close to the family, more close to the nature, more human. He took her walls dawn, and she found an other Harlow, a new one in the other side waiting. It was a blast for her but, at the same time, a disaster, because there were secrets and there was her distroyed life awaiting for her back to New York. She had to go back and try to fix the mess before she continued with her life, Dax or no Dax included.

Did I say I love this book? Harlow's and Dax's story? Two lives different in the way they understand the world's values but, still, with the same need for care and love. Liz, balanced these two worlds, giving her characters the time to explore their differenses and accept them, no matter what the circumstances where. I didn't mention the turned on sex because it has to be a secret till you read the book. However, I can say that, I enjoyed so much the witty dialogs they had before and after the sex...especially when the good doctor spoke in her language. Hilarious!!!

Coming to a close, I truly recomment "Everything she ever wanted" as the perfect romantic book for a weekend, yes is going to be a fast reading, and maybe a book in your heart. It's a book of love, without the word being advertised everywhere into the story. It's a story of self-research, true needs and deep care, it will definitely keep you a pleasant company all the way until the end.

Until next time, enjoy reading the books you have, whenever you can.

I loved this book. It was sad background for Harlow and the one thing she truly loved she lost. She was so down that she contemplated suicide, but she still had the strength to move forward. And that put her in the path with Dax, the owner and builder of the place that Harlow is staying at for awhile. There is instant chemistry between them even with an age gap. They explore the relationship between them, except Harlow's past comes and is still unresolved. Each keep secrets that end in a big fight with all of them being revealed. And Harlow decided to head home and deal with the mess that she was running from. Dax feels hollow when he is all alone, and no matter the feelings of his family he is in love with Harlow who might be carrying his child. Harlow is dealing with an ex and the revelation that she is with another child while being fearful of the pain from the loss of the 1st child. These come together again, to build a life and support one another. I loved the epilogue.

I voluntarily received an ARC of this book and ever grateful to be given the chance to read the story again.

Drama packed with fairy tale (3 bears will never be the same again), romance, adventure, travel, medic, carpentry, divorce battle etc. This is the book that kept me reading into the night, and guessing what will Dax/Harlow do next. The way Liz wrote their story brought me closer to the characters and at times I really felt them. I had laughed, cried and gone depressed with them.

I highly recommend this book and the others written by Liz. She is one author that does not disappoint!

I honestly fell in love with this book. What is there not to like about this AMAZING book. I absolutely fell in love with the characters - Dax and Harlow. I have to admit they were flawed and imperfect, but they were still so lovable. The plot was amazing. I feel like it such an original plot. There are not much stories like this. I don't want to give away too much because EVERYONE MUST READ THIS AWESOME BOOK. All I have to say was I was HOOKED and I could not stop reading until I found out what happened to to Harlow and Dax. Liz Durano did an absolute great job!!!

A successful career and good looks don't guarantee happiness. When transplant surgeon Harlow loses an unborn child, and then her husband, which leads to losing her place in a hospital, she runs away, eventually ending up in a self-sustaining home she's renting in New Mexico. Only it turns out that's Dax's home, and he drops in early, not realizing it's been rented, and stumbles into Harlow at her darkest hour. They have little in common on the surface, and yet somehow they fill the empty spaces in one another.

A deeply emotional book; steamy, romantic, and sometimes funny, this story will take you on a wild ride.
