This book sets out to answer some fundamental questions regarding Apostolic What is preaching? Why do we preach? Is our preaching biblical? Is it still relevant today? Jerry Jones lays the theological groundwork for the basis of preaching, presents the case for the priority of preaching, and demonstrates the fundamental necessity of preaching in the church. Drawing from the extensive experience of a lifetime of preaching the gospel, the author distills the key elements of preaching into a book that preachers young and old will have a hard time putting down.
As a person who doesn't preach (in the traditional fashion anyway), I found this to be both interesting and insightful. The best parts of the book lie within the second half, where it gets extremely practical. My inexperience is the only thing keeping this above a 3/5. Because it isn't anything groundbreaking. I believe that the average experienced preacher is unlikely to walk away with much from this.
I cannot put this book down - I have re-read sections many times because it's a working tool for me as a minister of the word.
It is clearly written and the bible is the main source to which the author draws his thoughts. This is one one the most impacting books I have read and I will use it for a very, very long time. Every minister of the word should get this book.
This book is my required reading for the Purpose Institute course. It is such an insightful book about preaching and the impact of preaching. Preaching is not only about the public speaking skills and the use of the right body language, it is also about the anointing of which most preachers neglected or failed to emphasized this as a number one priority. Mind you, anointed preaching comes hand in hand with preparation. Not only the preaching ministry but also in every Christian ministry.
Who are we, as the Church? What is to be our guiding philosophy? The simple and complete answer is that we follow the Word and the Spirit in the shadow cast by Jesus and the Apostles. If we believe in the infallibility of the Bible, the Apostolic pattern commands us to be led by the voice of God through the simplicity of preaching, and specifically by preachers. We are not to be led by intellectuals, administrators, finances, saints, youth, culture, statistics, or charisma. And the true Church never will be. We are led by inspiration and anointing born of sacrifice and trial in the fires of the altar of service unto His flock. Jerry Jones makes the indisputable case for this clarion call.
From the pen of a respected elder and consummate preacher
Preaching echoes in the heart when shared authentically from the heart of God and the preacher. Reverend Jerry Jones exudes an insight and passion for preaching in this book that beautifully reflects the masterful preaching of his that has graced pulpits for decades.
Good read for those wanting to go into preaching ministry. read this book for a class, didn't finish it in entirety but the basis of the book is preaching styles, what can work in delivering a message, what doesn't work as well as different styles of preaching. good book for reference purposes
Brother Jones has effectively distilled years of plowing through many libraries and texts into a seminal work to help preachers fulfill their main calling: preach the word in season and out of season.
This is the greatest book on the act of preaching in print today. It was powerful, informative, and really helped me to climb to the next level. This is a must read for any preacher!
I will be reading this book again and again! Bro. Jerry Jones does an excellent job of showing how to not only write out a sermon, but to deliver it with passion and anointing!
Phenomenal book by Bro. Jerry Jones on how to effectively preach the Word of God. He goes through technique, preparation, types of preaching, anointing, etc. Very informative.
Absolutely fantastic book on Apostolic preaching. Jerry Jones gives us both spiritual and practical insights from his years of experience and helps the reader know how to become a better preacher.
What I genuinely loved was how honest and open Jerry Jones was throughout the book in what works with sermon preparation and preaching, and what doesn't work. He was not afraid to even share some embarrassing stories of him not preaching his best, and how he learned to move past those moments.
If you want to become a better preacher, buy this book. It will teach you the theory, and then ask you to get your hands dirty with the application. It will inspire you to want to preach better and help you become all God desires you to be.
This should be a textbook on Homiletics in every Apostolic Bible college. At the very least, it should be part of the Required Reading list. Every serious preacher dedicated to their calling owe it to themselves to read this book. Thank you Brother Jones for writing a much needed book on the subject.
This is an excellent study on the process of preaching and the structure of a sermon. I highly recommend this book to those who are feeling called to preach and to those who are seasoned preachers as well. We Preach will forever be in my library and I will reference it the rest of my life!
Good introduction for the nuts and bolts of preaching. Appreciated his discussions on the why of preaching and what to aim for. Would recommend to anyone who feels a call to preach to get them started on the journey.
