Months after her vicious abduction, Special Prosecutor Jennifer Aiken is enlisted to serve in an FBI sting; to go after a hacker group called Nonsystem. Helping her is Brendan Healy, who fights for his life in Rikers Island while awaiting trial for the murder of Alexander Heilshorn, the powerful leader in a multinational organization known as Titan.
Once Brendan has extricated himself from Rikers through a dramatic turning of the tables, he hunts for Leah Heilshorn, the daughter of Rebecca, the murdered escort from HABIT. Meanwhile, Jennifer must navigate a complex underworld to meet Nonsystem and find the truth behind Titan and its real relationship to the country.
Timothy James Brearton lives in the Adirondack Mountains with his wife and three children. He's loved thrillers and police stories for most of his life. HABIT follows broken cop Brendan Healy down the rabbit hole of a human trafficking conspiracy. DEAD GONE delivers Florida cop Tom Lange into a criminal underworld and THE KILLING TIME introduces FBI agent Shannon Ames, a country girl in the big city.
A most excellent 5 star read! I don't know where to begin. This whole trilogy, #1 Habit, #2 Survivors and this one #3 Day Break have just blown my socks off. Thrilling, fast paced, nail biting, mind blowing, twisty & full of conspiracy theories (or are they?) and also full of evil, stupid, innocent and heroic characters. This is a story of big Government, obscene wealth, greed and most importantly Power. It is the tale of an average middle American guy who gets all tangled up in this and somehow manages to come out alive with his psyche somewhat intact.
I read all 3 books...I liked the story, kind of! It was long & wordy in some parts. Sometimes I felt that it was over my head with technical info on internet & infrastructures. Not sure I like the ending, but it does leave the door open to more books! Overall - it was a good read. Probably would never pick up to read again.
If the reader suspends all expectation of reality these three books can be engrossing. I read all three in sequence over two days. It was a marathon indeed. The first of the series, Habit became explosively gripping at midpoint. The second volume again suspended reality, or threw it out the window, but was engrossing as well. The third volume fell into a preachy tone about the end of the USA, a very intricate tortuous storyline about the apocalypse of the American world as we know it, not really resolved but certainly entertaining and possibly even predictive or descriptive - suspension of reality or depiction of reality ? I do not know and I also cannot imaging how the two protagonist found the money for escaping to the Caribbean and the Maldives... All in all a good if illogical story. Each volume is not a cliff-hanger and could be read on its own. Plenty of violence but not grossly done. Love and sex are handled equally well and even with elegance. I recommend !
This is the third book in the series. It continues the story. Branden diets out of jail, eludes his followers and rescues Rebecca's child and fakes his death. Jennifer gets captured by no systems after watching a shootout at the Stemp house. She ultimately is rescued by the FBI and resigns. The ending is a nice twist but I liked it. A lot of adventure and suspense.
I really enjoyed this book. There were so many twists and turns !! It was difficult at times to figure out who’s who and on what side ?? A little confusing sometimes because of all the political stuff and all the different groups??!! I did like the series and all the main characters. I might try reading it again for better clarity.
This has been a wonderful ride in espionage and I'm looking forward to reading the next book. They are all different, but follow the same story line. Author Brearton does an outstanding job of pulling his books together in a way that keeps you right on the edge from start to finish.
Its not often that I read a book, in this case a trilogy, that has me this intensely captivated. The conclusion was surprising. I literally did not see it coming. The last 5 or so chapters are put together so damn well.
So well written that you feel you are walking along with the characters. The book is full of suspense a d twists till the end. I would recommend reading the three books of the biology.
Excellent series that you must read from book 1 or you will miss out on so much. Really clever plot and even the end of book 3 leaves you hoping more will follow
I truly enjoyed this series! Suspenseful, well developed characters, thickened plots overlapping & intriguing. It really makes you think about government, political parties, following the past and present money trails and what could become at stake with control.
Followed straight on from Survivors, and the attempt to undermine XList and Titan makes some pretty violent progress. Still too complex to be an easy read.
Finished the series. Exhausting in a very good way. Fast moving stories. I like the quick take on the peripheral characters, just enough to fix them in mind, like a snapshot without the extra gab. Complicated, handled well.
Definitely a story for conspiracy fans! Also, a well articulated book. I am glad Kindle makes finding definitions easy with a tap on the word in question.
Wow a very explosive read that left you wanting to never place the book down.I was still reeling from the second book in this series and now that I have finished this book I want more. A great author keeps you in the game and never lets you down....There will be more of his books will read for sure
A really great book I missed the first one but these last two are really good a hard time placing the book down type of novel I will continue on with this author
There was an old film called "McKenna's Gold". It seemed to drone on and on and on, introducing new, unexpected plot twists and characters to the extent of absurdity. It got to a point where the viewer just wished it would end. It didn't matter much how. This trilogy is the same. The ending left the promise (threat?) of yet another follow-up. I hope not.
Tho this trilogy is a work of fiction, I feel it could actually be happening. With the government we have today, it wouldn't take much. A fast-paced, couldn't-put-it-down read, I highly recommend this series to those of you who love to wonder where the author got his ideas.
I found series frightening. Even though they were written some time ago, the books in this trilogy seem to be mirroring events as they are unfolding today. "Scary" may be a better word.
