This book is from the children's section at the library and, although it isn't of textbook length, I found it to be an interesting and informative review of the 1930’s in America. It's scope in subject matter was very interesting; discussing politics, war, entertainment, sports, lifestyle, etc. If you want an moderate overview of the 1930's read this before diving into something more complicated.
