It will provide a mine of information to scholars and to anyone else interested in the movement Prabhupada brought to America from India.”
Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami (सत्स्वरूप दास गोस्वामी)(born Stephen Guarino on December 6, 1939) is a senior disciple of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), better known in the West as the Hare Krishna movement. In his later years he created hundreds of paintings, drawings, and sculptures that attempt to capture and express his perspective on the culture of Krishna consciousness.
A classic biography of Srila Prabhupada ... One of its kind.. it is totally amazing how this book covers every small detail about prabhupada's life.. the incidents, while giving a memoir also gives us an insight of the transcendental feelings of an acārya and his disciples. With myriad intricate description of prabhupada's Lila this book also sheds light on the true Dynamics of pure devotional service...
Whatever you think of Srila Prabhupada (I never met him, but I did spend close to three years in his movement, and got out through being deprogrammed) this is a remarkable biography. What is remarkable is how honest it is. I really felt like I understood the man after reading it.
This is Prabhupada's story, warts and all. You'll find out a lot about his early followers as well, including their faults and mistakes.
I was inspired to read this book because I had been revising a book I wrote myself over thirty years, ago about my own experiences in the Hare Krishna movement. Doing that stirred up a lot of old feelings, and reading this book helped me to understand them and deal with them.
I really wanted to know more about the founder of the hare Krishna movement and this book explains it all. The book reveals His Divine Grace's early life, his parents, his marriage, and his translating of the Vedanta to English and eventually founding of the ISKCON movement and travel to the USA by boat at the beginning of his career. The book is an detailed account of His Divine Grace's setting up of ISKCON and his coordination of many temple openings around the world. There are quotes and stories from the man himself which are amusing and heart warming. The book gives account of Prabhu's illnesses hospital treatments and eventual death which was attended by his closest disciples. A very essential read for anyone who wants to know more about the man behind the movement.
One person CAN change a lot. One person CAN touch thousands of lives, if not millions. With strong faith in God and His teacher this person courageously travels beyond the borders of his country, India. His journey is described herein and it is mind blowing what he has accomplished in only 12 years time. Great read!
It's indeed great journey to read this book. This biography gives very beautiful insight of Shrila Prabhupada's journey that started with forty rupees and his unshakable faith on Krishna and ended with everlasting world wide revolution.
Shrila Prabhupada's life is biggest lesson that mankind has ever received.
It is a marvelous book which resembles the toughest struggle faced by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to establish ISKCON throughout the world. Also he is an idle of mine from whom I seek Lord Krishna's love and his dedication to serve lord without any fear. HARE KRISHNA
