Lorenzo de' Medici was born in Milan, Italy. He studied Economic Science in Switzerland, where he lived for a number of years, and History of Art in the United States.

His professional and personal interests have taken him to several different countries and he has lived in Germany, Austria, the United States and Monte Carlo. He speaks six languages.

Aunque te aclara desde el principio que es ficción, este libro tal vez no se aleje mucho de lo que paso. Ambientado alrededor de la masacre de San Bartolomé del 23 de agosto de 1572 en francia, con un facil lectura te narra como Catalina de Medicis, Reina madre de francia, busca seguir ejerciendo su poder sobre su hijo Carlos IX quitando de enmedio al jefe de los hugonotes el almirante Coligny, desatando un infierno que la sobrepasa.

Segunda lectura de este libro. No recordaba que tuviera escenas cruentas, por cierto, escenas a las que se le da vital importancia durante la trama... se desarrolla a los personajes para llegar a ese supuesto clímax durante la noche de St. Bartomolé para después echarlos por la borda con una conclusión de 5 páginas.

Aunque está clarísimo que el personaje principal es la reina, se le da una importancia a los personajes secundarios de Tinella y François como si fueran vitales para la trama cuando son irrelevantes y se nota que se introdujeron en el libro para aportar ese toque de romance que seguramente las editoriales han de exigir a los escritores. De lado dejaron personajes que se pudiesen desarrollar más por su importancia en los acontecimientos pero que se reducen a un vistazo como Coligny.

Interesante y entretenido.

Que brava debe haber sido Catalina de Medici y astuta, e inteligente para vivir tanto y gobernar Fancia durante tanto tiempo.
Y la otra Catalina, la camarera personal de la reina, es una especie de espejo opuesto. Se dejó llevar por la pasión y cambio su vida para siempre, para bien finalmente.

Es una buena novela para entender, a grandes rasgos, lo que sucedió durante la Noche de San Bartolomé en Francia. La historia de la criada es muy linda, aunque predecible.

I tried because I was interested in seeing Dumas 'Queen Margot' from the other side but this is terribly written and turns Catherine in a super-special amazing being with no flaws that is probably just as historically inaccurate as Dumas' Machiavellian super-villain but a lot more boring...
