3 Star: Kindle Unlimited Read It has many redeeming qualities. The characters were likable at best neutral at worst. The writing was much better than expected. I developed an interest that withstood to the end. The plot was nice, somewhat original or had its own unique flair. The writing was good, and the pretense wasn’t half bad, the romance was simmering with few exceptions. The male/female lead showed hints of abuse both verbal and/or physical or signs of spot-on or forced chemistry. It was a tiny bit predictable. Overall, liked it enough, entertaining.
The story mainly consists of 2 different points of view; Quinn's and how she perceives Dante, as both an individual person and his position on the Yellow Jackets & Dante's view which is of himself, how he really is vs the jackass most people see him as and also how he so badly wants to make a good impression on Quinn and why that is. Basically, Dante comes off as a cocky little jerk wad who thinks he's so unbelievably awesome that nothing should ever touch him and that he's gods gift to women. He's very self absorbed. Quinn, is very business like and looks at everyone as a potential storyline that will boost her career, which also makes her self absorbed as well. Difficult to read because the reader spends most of their time wanting to shake and smack Dante around.
First thing I'm going to say is, I'm only 8% into this book. I love the premise behind what I've read so far, I realize it's only the beginning, but the idea behind what I've read definitely has some merit. It could be a good book.
Now for the reason that I am reviewing at 8%. No, I'm not giving up. I do want to see where this book is going to go, so it has captured my interest at least a little. But the writing, OMG the writing hurts my brain. First, the author desperately needs to find an editor and use them. Good beta readers would work too. I'd gladly sign up for the job just to help this book out! There are far too many "had had" and "that that" going on in this book. There are better ways to write. Rearrange the sentence just a bit and it would be so much better, and you would and should NEVER have to use "had had" or "that that" in a sentence. Now for my next complaint, whom being used in the wrong way. If you don't know where to use who and whom, then you should really do some research on the internet to find out. Whom does not make the sentence sound better if it is not used properly, it just makes it hard to read. Next complaint, (sorry, there are several) so far in the 8% that I've read the author repeats herself so many times that I've started to skip ahead and haven't missed anything so far. Yes, we know he's a bad boy basketball player. Yes, we know she can make or break his career. We understand he's a great ball player and she's a great journalist. But pages about her patting herself on her back and talking about how she worked her way up through the ranks at a very young age is a little over the top. And I can appreciate his self-deprecation if it was in one paragraph and not several pages. It's too repetitive, and it just makes the writing and the story annoying and boring.
All in all, so far, I like the idea behind this book and I'm trying my damnedest to read the whole thing, but grammar and conventions errors make me crazy. I can't handle it. Do yourself a favor, get a few beta readers and a good editor and go back in and fix this because, it could be a good book, but the amount and frequency of mistakes makes it almost impossible to read and enjoy. There are great and cheap beta readers of fiverr, there are also good editors who are reasonably priced on fiverr too. There's no reason for so many mistakes in only 8% of the book.
The plot was different to your standard bad boy romance which I really enjoyed. I also loved Dante'so vulnerability and honesty with Quinn. Quinn was a great character to read about because she genuinely wanted the best for Dante and didn't give up on him. 3 our of 5 because although I enjoyed the premise, unfortunately the writing was a little jumbled. I have no doubt that with some tweaking this would be a 4.5/5out of 5. There were a few errors like no full stops or spelling issues which is common in ebooks, but what affected the rating for me, was the repetition. Sentences were either repeated in different paragraphs or the author would try to explain things 2 ways when it wasn't necessary. Received a copy of this book in order for me to provide an honest review. Check out my blog and follow me on Twitter if you found this helpful! @elunabelle Elunabelle.wordpress.com
Roughly around 300 pages, full story not 600 as stated above.
Quinn wants an exclusive on the basketball player Dante Rock. She will do anything in her power to.clean his image up through the press but she also makes him clean himself up, no parties,,drinking and no more women. When a woman barges into his locker room screaming that Dante gave her the black eye and hurt her, is when he needs Quinn to come through. His story starts when his abusive father beat his mother in front of him and his bab sister, and so one. Quinn needs the interviews that Dante promised for his clean up but she will get him talking and what she finds out will make her why she ever did this. Her heart will be either on the line or her job. Dante will finally find what he always been missing in life.
This was a very good story. Quinn and Dante seemed like a good coupe, but they got better as the story went on. As you read the beginning, you think it will be a typical bad boy, good girl story but it turns into something much more. When you start to read about the childhood that Dante had, you fall for this hero even more. What he had to ensure and made of himself was amazing. I'm so glad that Quinn saw through his hard shell and stuck with him.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars was I felt the ending was rushed a bit but other than that, it was awesome!
This was my first Amy Love book and it will not be the last!
I liked this story a lot, in fact I think it has the potential to be amazing. The major put off for me was the repetition of things but that's just me being picky. The storyline was good too. A great sports romance. This author is relatively new to me and can't wait to read more.
