FOUR FUN & SEXY STARS!
Sinful Deception is part of the Covert Affairs series by author Joan Swan. Each book is a stand-alone but the series is sequential so if you like to read series books in order, start with Intimate Enemies. I hadn’t read the other books in the series when I read Sinful Deception and I had no issues jumping in.
Sinful Deception is a novella length romantic suspense-lite story. The premise of a new sex cam worker meeting a hot border control officer online could easily have come off as sleazy or cheesy but I thought it totally worked (even if it was far-fetched). The chemistry between the two main characters was sexy and sweet.
“Fuck…” He gripped her hips and pulled her closer, as slowly as he could. She was so tight. Burning hot. Heaven.
He had no thoughts outside Tova’s body squeezing him. Tova’s hands clenched in his hair. Tova’s mouth on his skin, on his lips. He was swamped with pleasure so rich it too his breath.
“Oh God…” Her moan rolled out of her throat with luscious abandon, and her head fell back again the wall. “Fuck that’s so good.”
I’m surprised I waited so long to read anything in this series because I’m a big Joan Swan fan and had Intimate Enemies on my TBR list for a while. I'm glad I didn't delay and started with this one, it didn't disappoint. The book was well written and overall I thought it was a fun read and really enjoyed it.
One note:Sinful Deception can be purchased as a stand-alone book but was also included in the Sinful Seconds anthology .

This is the perfect little novella for its length, action, suspense, romance and creative premise. Sinful Deception is a part of Joan Swan's Covert Affairs series. As a fan of the previous books, I thought I might enjoy this book, but I'm pleased to say I enjoyed it a lot.
The premise of this story is unique. Tova Sorenson is a hard working, determined, smart student attending college in the United States. She is looking to earn as much money as she can so that she can help her family in Mexico. A friend convinces her to try to become a sexcam operator. In her very first outing she is contacted by Marcus Lucero, a Border Patrol agent who is just on the verge of burning out. Though the book is not erotica, it is a bit naughty. This angle gave it a little edge.
I don't know how much of the story is believable, but I WANT it to be believable. It is not difficult to root for Tova. She is a good girl finding herself in an untenable position of having to support and save her family. It is nice to see a good-guy support and protect her. Marcus has just enough alpha to make him heroic without being over the top.
IN A NUTSHELL:
For a romantic suspense, it has all the right ingredients and there are keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments. What a fun, fun read. Plus extra points, for mentioning UCSD and the Tritons!

Enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. It was short but author spent a good portion of it on the storyline rather than relying on sex scenes. Don’t get me wrong, it had some very sexy love scenes, but they complemented the story rather than being the main focus. I generally enjoy this author and for a short story, I was not disappointed. I will continue reading more of her books.

Nooooo. I know the book has to end, but just when the story got emotional and juicy it ends. Marcus and Tova such a beautiful storyline., yes you may need the tissue for this one but the humor will have you cracking up. The chemistry was hot and sizzling

This series is rapidly making its way to the top of my favorite series list. SINFUL DECEPTION continues in the same excellent vein the first two books started it all. The main couple is awesome, the writing is captivating, the suspense plot fits right in and it was just as sexy and hot as the other books in this series! This is one of the few series I've read that make me wish they'd make a TV series of it. I'd definitely watch that!
I read 2 books in this series back to back and though the main themes are the same (Border Patrol, ICE, cartels, illegal immigrants and smuggling) in each book, they are all original and never felt the same. The romances are also one-of-a-kind and each couple is unique.
SINFUL DECEPTION starts all cute and sexy with webcamming and pole dancing and then...BAM! Again (like with the other books in this series) Joan Swan took me completely by surprise with the plot by giving it a twist I didn't see coming at all. I loved Marcus and Tova and their story and the shortness (around 120 pages) of the book didn't take away from the story at all. The sexy times were in perfect balance with the suspense plot and I really like Swan's writing style. It's fast-paced, crisp and sexy.
Since there's no next book in this series yet I'm going on the hunt for Joan Swan's (and her alter ego Sky Jordan's) books because I really liked what I read in this series.
Memorable Scenes:
- the one against the wall > seriously hot scene there!
- the one in the shower > yowza!

Writing a novella has to be difficult. You have to tell an engaging story in a third of the words. While trying to get all the emotions, action and plot developments in that same short amount of words. Joan Swan to say she succeeded is an understatement.
Not only was this a wonderful love story it tells a story that is seldom told. The lives of the people who live and work on both sides if the US border. This is not a one dimensional issue and Ms. Swan gives it the attention it deserves.
Tova Sorenson was born two immigrants to the US on temporary visas. Her mother is Mecican and her father Swedish. A family medical emergency sent them back to Mexico, where her brother was born. Riva was the lucky one and has been able to return to the states and begin her life. Her brother, not so much. Years of guilt of being the lucky one has finally accumulated and she is desperate to get him out. Juggling her limited income isn't enough so she embarks on a webcam career. Of course she's totally inept at it But her first caller/viewer is the stuff of dreams and magic happens.
Marcus Lucero is dedicated to his career on the border control but even he questions some if the arrests. It's a delicate balance and a never-ending job. Overworked he is losing himself on the job. His co-workers are so fed up with his terse responses and his constant badgering they suggest he might want to get laid..a man's obvious solution..But Marcus doesn't handle small chat and is just a bit socially awkward. So his buddies, suggest he check out a sexism site. He agrees but feels a bit inept and unsure..surfing the site he is totally uninterested until an eyelids into view. Totally fascinated he watches as she is obviously clueless. Of course she is perfect. Funny, smart, sexy and completely naive. Instant attraction!
But life is about to get more interesting as her brother's life infringes upon the two of them. They realize how their lives may have connected but they have a fence between them, a border fence.
Honestly this was so well written, their relationship becomes completely plausible and doesn't seem rushed or contrived. The issues addressed aren't not preachy but thoughtful and yes, thought provoking. And the action?? Well it's perfect for the size of this story.
I was late getting on the Joan Swan bandwagon but I am firmly entrenched in her camp now.

You know, I’m normally not a fan of shorter books. That may be because I read so fast; but with this book, I was hooked from the opening chapter. Ms. Swan has a way with words and a way to draw you in, explore the extreme, and make you (as the reader) fall in love.
Sinful Deception contains all those abilities and more. What better hook up occurs than a cop and a sexcam operator? Dude! I was in tears with this, then immediately wanted some ice for how hot it got. It was an intriguing plot that just got better when our heroine, Tova, got into a bit of trouble.
Then there’s the hero, Marcus, whom you can’t help but love…immensely. This book had all the cookings for a fantastic recipe: suspense, sexy scenes, humor, and a bit of good old fashion romance…with a twist!

Novella of the Covert Affairs Series, which involves ICE and Border Patrol officers on the US-Mexican border. Marcus Lucero is tired, working double shifts to keep up with Border Patrol enforcement, turning away drug dealers, traffickers, families wanting to live in America. After his co-workers tease him about being too tense and too tired, he decides to look up a "sexcam" site. He finds a young woman totally opposite to what he expected in a sex worker. She is adorable, engaging, and totally clueless in the business she's just entered. Turns out she is a college student trying to make more money to help her family in Mexico. This includes her brother who is always in debt and in trouble.
Marcus is smitten and wants to know about her; she is intrigued by him. Each of them is unsure of the person they are speaking to is real. Marcus is watching Tova's webcam talking to her when an intruder breaks into the house she shares with a roommate. He is horrified when she is attacked. When the police arrive, she has been taken.
The brief, very suspenseful and action filled story ends happily when Marcus and Tova realize that the real selves attached to the personas are just as intriguing as the people on camera.

After his teammate plants the idea, Border Patrol agent, Marcus Lucero, starts browsing a sexcam site where he meets Tova Sorenson. Their virtual meeting was actually adorable and well done. An instant friendship is born. I liked how the sexcam website was just a window to more pressing matters that would come later, like situations that tear families apart, and that I know are very real. Tova has a brother who she desperately wants to help. Both Tova and Marcus are hard working people. I was immediately drawn to their characters and couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen. In the midst of danger and suspense, their actual meeting turns into a blazing inferno. Oh yes, there’s lots of fun innuendo and dirty talking involved!
Joan Swan has written another fast-paced, action-packed, sexy novella in the Covert Affairs series! It was nice to see a little of Rio (Intimate Enemies) and Zoe (First Temptation) as well. I love this series, and I’m so glad to have finally had the chance to read the most recent installment.

This is a quick paced sexy little novella by Joan Swan. Tova needs money to help her brother get into the US. She herself was born in the US but her brother was not and she wants to help him so he can be safe. She's going to college and working as a waitress but it's not enough so she decides to try being a sexcam operator after her friends tells her how good the money is. Marcus is getting burned out at his job and working to hard ever since one of his fellow border patrol agents was killed. No time for finding a girlfriend his friends tell him to check out a sexcam website and that's where he finds Tova who has no clue what's she's doing. The more Marcus gets into Tova's life the more he likes her and when her brother's activities threaten to come between them their relationship might just go right off the rails and crash. There is a lot of action packed in this novella and even though it's a short story Joan Swan gives it the feel of a much longer book. Can't wait to see more from this series!

Tova is attending college in the United States and working to earn money to send to her parents in Mexico and trying to earn extra to pay someone to bring her brother across the border. To earn this extra money a friend talks her into trying to earn extra money by making sexcam videos. The same premise as the phone but using private video chat rooms. Marcus, who hasn’t had a date in forever, because he’s so busy with work stumble upon Tova struggling with getting her laptop camera set up for the video. Marcus, being a cop, points out to Tova all that he learned about her from the video, which is pretty scary. He ends up buying her a pre-paid phone card and sending her his phone number. Their relationship develops very quickly from there. Definitely hot and steamy with some twists and turns thrown in.

A new novelette from the Covert Affairs series.. Marcus Lucero has been working nonstop at his job as a border patrol agent. His coworkers think he needs to get laid and suggest he log onto a sexcam site. Tova Sorenson is the only one of her family that is a US citizen. She is in college and working while also trying to save enough money to bring her brother over from Mexico. When her friend tells her she can make quick money by working on a sexcam website she decides she will try it after all you don’t have to meet anyone in person. Marcus happens to be her first customer and it’s a humorous first meeting. The two end up connecting and texting before “meeting” again online when two men break into her room and kidnap her all with Marcus watching and not being able to do anything.. From here we get to see some old friends from the previous books – ICE agents – come in to help. This was a good suspense along with plenty of sexy moments.

Marcus and Tova meet under very unusual circumstances. But thanks to those circumstances Tova is safe, a little bruised up, but safe and Marcus will do everything to keep it that way.
This was a very quick read and an ever quicker romance. But Ms. Swan does a great job with Marcus & Tova. They have such great chemistry and an even better friendship. Marcus and Tova meet under very unusual circumstances. But thanks to those circumstances Tova is safe, a little bruised up, but safe and Marcus will do everything to keep it that way.
This was a very quick read and an ever quicker romance. But Ms. Swan does a great job with Marcus & Tova. They have such great chemistry and an even better friendship. Yet the base of this story is deep. There is a lot that was happening in a very short time and as always Ms. Swan does an amazing job of telling this story.

Sinful deception----
Marcus and Tova's story was hot and sweet, but sadly short. Marcus is burned out, and exhausted working too many hours for Border Patrol. Tova is a college student working too hard trying to come up with money to get her Mexican national brother across the border. Together you wouldn't expect them to have a connection but they do and it was sweet. There are a few super hot sex scenes and some drama. Not my favorite series from Ms Swan but I love all her work regardless.

I was not sure how I was going to like this story once Tova was introduced. I am not much for the real-world connecting via internet/social media. As it turns out, the story pulled me in and I loved the play between Tova and Marcus. The honesty with which they admitted to themselves that there were feelings to explore for the other person was refreshing. When the trouble began, I was caught up in the need to find and rescue her. Again, the honesty of their feelings won the day. I really enjoyed this story.

I read this as part of the Last Hero Standing collection. This was a very good short story involving the Mexican border near San Diego, a woman on one side, her brother on the other, and the cop who gets involved.
Hot and exciting, with a simple plot suitable for the length. Everyone is sane and strong and faces their challenges head on.
I'll grab book #1 and see how a longer story works.

Loved the premise, but I would have enjoyed more of it - this is a short book, and the characters didn't have as much development as I would have liked. The ending was too sudden and seemed rushed. But I loved it as a romantic suspense.

Enough confliction and honesty in the main characters to give a great storyline, though it wasn't nearly a long enough read for me! Lol. Sexy, sensual, great build-up with characters and I could see book 4 expanding upon this one. Keep writing Skye!

The story continues with our border patrol group. We have appearances by the previous characters but just enough to keep the story moving. This is a shorter story but just as intense as the others. You won't be disappointed to read this third installment. I'm looking forward to the next one.

3.25 stars. action, sexiness, betrayal and forgiveness all packed into a rather short story but one written with such aplomb you'd never realize how short it is until you actually count the pages:)
