INNOCENT OR GUILTY?

"I'm hooked! (at the first paragraph.)"

When Rose Denison accepted a job in her hometown, which she'd never planned returning to, she didn't expect her new employer to turn up dead. Nor for her to become the only eyewitness and sole suspect of his murder.  As the town pushes for a speedy trial to preserve its reputation, one person isn't convinced that she did it-David Kings Jr., the victim’s son. And the only man who ever said he loved her.  With time running out, everyone wants to know, is Rose innocent or guilty? But there was a huge problem. She couldn't remember what happened.

Decoy by Joy Ohagwu is a Christian murder mystery and try as I might, I could not guess the outcome! It is the first book in the Elliot Kings series.
The novel shows the importance of persistent prayer. "Haunt Heaven's doors day and night until God intervenes." There are times when all we can do is cry out to Jesus. We need to remember to listen and be obedient to Him too. "God had said to take the job."
Prayer is not just for times of crisis. We should pray at all times. "She sent a prayer of gratitude to God." Prayer is just talking to God. It is part of being in a relationship with God.
Decoy shows that we need to know God's word so that in times of crisis we can remember the promises of God. "I hold on to His Word."
Within the novel there is much fear. Fear can imprison us and stop us moving forwards. "What held you back was the fear in your mind." Our mind is powerful in convincing us of things. Fear is the opposite of faith. When fear invades us, we need to run to God.
The presence of God in our lives is key. "All she had in life now was her and Jesus." If Jesus is all you have, you have all you need.
The novel shows how we can sometimes transfer our human attributes to God. "Maybe God was punishing her for her past mistakes." God will never punish us. He loves us. He will however gently correct us as He convicts us of our wrong doing. When we repent and ask for forgiveness, He forgives us and loves us and remembers our sins no more.
Decoy is perfect for an afternoon's read. It will have you guessing the outcome and leave you looking forward to the second book in the series.

I received this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. No monetary compensation was received and all views expressed are my own.

DECOY

Joy Ohagwu has done it again. She packed a powerful punch with this short story. Decoy is full of mystery, intrigue and suspense. You will not be disappointed with this story. When the mystery began to unfold I could not stop reading and the secrets that were revealed were jaw dropping.

My favorite line was "Therefore, if I were you, I would haunt heaven’s doors day and night until God intervenes. As long as they have not sentenced you, you can still walk free. Pray your way out of here because no one else can save your hind. That’s my advice.”

Now I'm curious to know what's next for Theo. Will Rose and David ever advance beyond the friendship phase? And what other mysteries await at Elliott-Kings?

I had heard such great things about this book but I think I picked the wrong book to try this author out. It wasn't a bad read just awkward. The conversations were stilted and maybe an editor could have helped strengthen the story and catch the things that were out of order or just not needed. While the story has great merit it feels like you are dropped in the middle of the story. The message is good and it isn't overly preached which helps but isn't enough. It's not that it's a bad story it's just not a good display of this authors skill. Although this is my first full read of her work it wont stop me from reading more. I do like her style but I really need more for me to become a fan.

B*STILL

This was a lovely, turbulent read. Rose was a wayward daughter running from her past. Now she finds herself back in her hometown with a new teaching job, and a suspect for murder. Through many sleepless nights and prayer, she recieved her answer... Be still and know that I am God. It is a testimony for me to remember in my own life; I am not in control, He is. You must read this book to find out if Rose spends her life in prison or if truth prevails. Within this story God was in control!

Loved this Christian short story!

I always enjoy reading Joy Ohagwu's books. This short story is book 5 in a series but I didn't feel like I missed out on by not reading the previous 4 .The main character is wrongly convicted of murder and can't remember what happened even though all evidence points to her. She keeps her Christian faith throughout the trial and struggles she faces. I highly recommend this short story and other books by this author.

I have read almost every novel, and I’m still amazed how God uses Joy to display His love for us. I am trying not to be repetitive, but Joy reminds me how God used his disciples to help others build or enhance their faith in Jesus. As she keeps writing, I will keep reading. Blessings!

Rose can't believe she could be suspected of murder just like her mother had experienced a long time ago. But it was happening. But used it to bring her closer to Him & learning dependence on Him. Unbelievable who the murder turned out to be.

Disappointing

Having read and enjoyed over 20 other books by this author, I have to admit this one was my least favorite. The characters were not at all well developed. Everything about the plot felt rushed and predictable.

Decoy, by Joy Ohagwu, is a suspenseful novella that will keep the reader turning the pages. Rose has been drawn back to a hometown she'd left forever. Would her new job as a teacher at a Christian school be enough to keep her there or would she run again? And then the unthinkable happened--she was accused of murder. Will anyone believe in her innocence? Will she ever be free of the past? The author does a great job of navigating the realistic and likable characters through the various twists and turns of the plot. There is a good blending of faith in God and the importance of prayer throughout the story, an encouragement for readers no matter what they might be going through in their own lives. An entertaining whodunit!
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion.

A very interesting mystery. Not much romance which is refreshing. Rose is arrested for murder but she did not do it. Who did it, need to read to find out. I received this book in exchange for a honest review. Definitely recommend it.

I want more

Started this book less than two hours ago. Loved it, but I want more. Unfortunately cannot afford next book at this time but will the moment I can. All of her books I have read contain a possibility of reality. Enough said, get them for yourself.
