2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future

Rate this book
2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future is an engaging personal narrative through the author’s apprenticeship with master astrologer William Lonsdale who teaches him how to access a source of great power and creativity buried within the human soul.

The book begins in August 1987 on the slopes of Mount Shasta in Northern California as Borax witnesses the Harmonic Convergence, a spiritual and astrological event sparking a 26-year countdown to 2012, the year that marks the “end of history” in the Mayan calendar. Signs indicate that a “major energy shift” is occurring, a turning point in Earth’s collective karma powerful enough to change the global perspective of humankind.

Borax’s mountaintop experiences compel him to seek solutions to his personal turmoil. He meets Lonsdale and together they launch a mystery school to study how the twenty-five-year period between 1987 and 2012 can be used for a cosmic purging of negativity to release humanity’s core forces and restore universal balance. En route, Borax and his fellow students discover truths about life after death, karma, reincarnation, past lives, human evolution, and the purpose of our existence on earth. In the tradition of The Teachings of Don Juan , Carlos Castaneda’s tales of his shamanic master, 2012: Crossing the Bridge to the Future is a gripping sorcerer’s apprentice story driven by mystical forces, encouraging readers to expand their everyday awareness and challenge their fundamental beliefs about their place in the universe.

I can't believe I even checked this out, it's so terrible. I only read a couple pages...the author seemed so desperately to want to find meaning in his life that he's completely taken in by this "psychic?" who gets him to join his "cult?" whatever. He (William Lonsdale) does a reading for Mark which I assume is the exact reading transcribed in the book b/c it was recorded on cassette tape when it happened and it's just a bunch of generalities that could apply to anyone and yet he's convinced that this man has read his soul. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I don't think it has anything to do with 2012 either, he just named it that so it would sell a little better. If I could give it negative stars I would.

Author should change his name to Mark Boring. This book chronicles his hippy days in search of a woman to sleep with and a job. He ends up becoming an astronomer. As for the 2012 bit.. yea, there is a big shift in people's thinking coming.. There is no fire and brimstone in this read.

A good story w/ important historical context for any student of astrology, so I gave it four stars in accord with my rating system:

***** for something truly innovative
**** for a great story that's well researched, significant in history or culture, and/or has literary flare
*** for a good story
** for a poorly-told story
* for something I consider egregious

So the whole 2012 thing has been on my mind a bit lately. I wasn't wanting to really drink the kool-aid so to speak, but it is interesting to ponder about a bit. Don't worry...my kool-aid is not spiked with end-of-the-World disaster. Rather, I tend to subscribe to the proposed idea that it will just be yet another time of changing mind sets and perspectives..."life as we know it" if you will. You have to agree that we are getting awfully close to the tipping point in the progress of technology and how it's affecting the way we live on a daily basis.

Think about it this way...the Earth is like a big brain. We have had an abundance of population growth over the past century, and now all those "personal-synapses" are starting to fire, and make connection at a much grater and faster degree than ever before. When a brain becomes that interconnected and creative...well...anything is possible....even a stroke.

So I've just started this one, and I have to admit it's writing about some freaky hippie experiences from the 70's. So we'll see.

The kool-aid is getting thicker.

I ended up only reading the 1st half of this book. It was more autobiographical about his growth as an astrologer, which was interesting, but less about society as a whole.

An interesting read. I'm taking a tour of 2012 books, and this was the first one I could even read.

The idea that 2012 is a transition date of some kind is now widespread. The fact that we are anticipating a multi-planet astronomical alignment is clear enough. But what does everyone think is going to happen?

Borax's book speaks for Ellias Lonsdale, his teacher, and expresses the concept that we have a kind of signal time, a transition, coming for which we each must prepare by progressing as far as we can, spiritually, by then.

There are lots of details, and good advice for personal development. So my point of view is this: whether or not we were to believe in a spiritual deadline, wouldn't we want to do this stuff anyway? Don't we all know this world needs to be a better place? Then we all need to do our spiritual homework, whatever form that takes for each of us.

Should we have a 12/21/2012 party?

I rated this book high, not based on it's literary prose, but based on the fact that it absolutely blew me away. I have NEVER taken astrology seriously. In fact, if I'd have looked at the back cover closer, I would not have bought this book. If I'd hae started this book ten or even five years ago, I would have put it down thinking it was a waste of time. None-the-less when I started to read it I became entralled by the story behind the astrology. So much so that I am pursuing a personal astrological reading from the author. Call me gullible but somewhere deep in my core I believe there may be something to this and I intend to find out.

This book is about astrology and what is happening with the world as we approach 2012. I must admit I didn't understand a lot of what was written. The book is written by a friend of my sister and she had another copy, otherwise I would not have picked it up. It's interesting to think that 2012 is an important year with the stars!

Great for someone who wants to learn more about what is going to happen before, during and after the Harmonic Convergance. Easy to read and understand for a non-scientific mind. Could be enjoyed by all
