I loved the Keurboslaan books as a 9-12-year-old kid. I read them multiple times then. I'm just reading the whole series again, and while I certainly don't enjoy them as much now as I did then, I'll rate it as my 10-year-old self would have rated it. As an adult, I think the perfection of Dr. Serfontein is almost sickeningly overdone, but I loved him as a child, which is strange because in real life I disliked strong authority figures and rebelled against them big-time. I also enjoy the parts of these books the most that focus on the school and the naughtiness of the boys, while the Serfontein family sagas are less interesting. This one was very much focussed on Dr. Serfontein with his meeting his future wife and falling in love, his wedding, his first-born, and so forth, so I think it is less than thrilling. But I'll recommend it to kids any day.
