H.J. Schoeps was a German Historian and University Professor.
This work is a short history of the origin and existence of Prussia from 1525 as a Duchy, later a Kingdom, an Empire and finally a State (Deutsches Reich) up to the end of WWII in 1945.
After the very condensed chapters of Pre-history of an Order-state to the first Duchy,
The Destiny of Brandenburg (first original Duchy) up to 1640
The Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm 1640 to 1688
Prussia becomes a Kingdom 1688 – 1713 / King Wilhelm I, ‘The Soldier King’, 1713 to 1740
King Friedrich I, 1740 to 1763 / King Friedrich II, from 1763 to 1786
1806 – 1713 Period of Reforms
Napoleon and occupation of Germany, followed by liberation wars.
Birth of the “German Coalition”, uniting 39 sovereign Princes and Cities
Under King Friedrich Wilhelm IV up to 1848
1848 / 1850 creation of Prussian Monarchial Constitution
1871 King Wilhelm I and the foundation of the” Second German Reich” by Bismarck, with the date of
18.01.1871 ends the existence of the independent historical Kingdom of Prussia.
From 1871 to the present day is the story of Germany with the two World Wars ending in 1945.

It is disturbing to see so many similarities to our actual situation with Putin’s war in Ukraine and gives a distinct feeling that Russia’s leader is living in a different century.
