Sejenis buku lift the flap.
This is an odd little book, but a gorgeous and unique experience nevertheless.
It reminds me of an experimental film, playing with this art form of "print" to bring you an emotion, a feeling to carry with you after you've finished reading it.
It's a book to be read and experienced, as the presentation and art is one of the most unique things I've seen in a long while, but it doesn't last long. And if you're looking for a full-bodied and fulfilling story, you won't find it here, either.
What you will find is something all its own, something beautiful, and a note of emotion that will hang around in your mind like a hard candy slowly dissolving on your tongue.
Graphically interesting and unique, but a bittersweet story. While I have met children in the school system like this child, I'm not sure I would have the heart to give them this book or read them this story. To me it feels like a children's book that should be aimed at adults. A thought provoking reminder that children who are unkind and disruptive may be starving for love and acceptance.
I love the concept so much! This book is filled with vivid colors and interesting die cut that attracted my attention. I will rate it an easy 5 stars. Highly recommended.
Cleverly original publication, “pages of vibrant colors and uneven widths, pages with cut-outs and strip-ins, pages with peepholespages of all shapes and colorful varieties.”
A pseudo-metamorphic book about a nine-year old orphan who is not very good-looking and who finds life at the orphage difficult.
She perseveres, overcomes her problems and surprises the director of the orphanage when he is presented with a missive that she has left in the trunk of a tree.
The book is beautifully presented with cut-outs and different coloured paper that enhance the delightful illustrations.
I found this amazing little book in the teen fiction section of my library and was immediately interested because it is unlike any YA fiction I've read so far. The quirky illustrations and cut-outs in the pages gave the short story more dimension and made it really fun to read. The story is a small one but is one that I had to give some time for the meaning and impact to be completely absorbed. I also don't want to give it back to the library. It's definitely a buy for me!
This gorgeously touching book is the story of a girl grappling with self-esteem and acceptance in an orphanage. Vanni carefully exposes feelings and perspective with well-placed cut outs which tease to and reveal images or chunks of text. An absolute wonder.
This book is a great little one to have. It is a cute story and the graphics are amazing. It was written and illustrated by a professor of mine and it's truly a treasure.
