Jean Brashear

A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.

Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.

And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.

Audio Review: Be Mine This Christmas (Texas Heroes, Book 22) by: Jean Brashear (author), Eric G. Dove (narrator)

Love lost. Hope found. Secrets revealed. Be Mine This Christmas gives emotions a total workout. Brashear breaks your heart, restores your faith and inspires your soul. Young love missed it chance, the first time around. Can fate get it right the second? Gib and Dulcie force hearts to face some painful truths. Eric Dove is a master at the pulling at the loose threads to get to the heart of the matter and with the smorgasbord that Jean Brashear provides that's not always an easy task. There is an ethereal kind of beauty to this enchanting tale.

Be Mine This Christmas: Sweetgrass Springs Stories (Texas Heroes Book 22)
by Jean Brashear (Goodreads Author)
I really liked this book. It was moving along well, kept my attention, had me wanting to keep reading to see what was happening next. I really like reading Jean Brashear’s books, she writes engaging stories that make you want to see them to the end. Also you are disappointed when the book is done. This book was about a Mom who couldn’t leave a kid in the system once she became a foster mother. Who isn’t going to be in her corner? She has a secret. She was to follow Gib years ago out of high school but she didn’t she called him and said she didn’t love him and that she wasn’t coming. She married someone else. He died. She has one child that is hers and three that are adopted. Gib came to town because he thought she was still living elsewhere and wasn’t going to be someone he would run into when he came back to see his parents at their request for Christmas. Little did he know his entire life was about to be turned upside down.
I received this book from Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

A quick read...

This story has been told a thousand times. The story about the boy and girl who parted and she was pregnant and didn’t tell him for years, until they came together 14 years later. They still love each other but Gib was still mad at her because she broke his heart and Dulcie wanted him to stay away because she was afraid he’d see that Torie was his. Cute but you can only retell this story so many times. And after 10 books about this town and family I think I’m done with them. It was entertaining novella but still...

Since I read the first book I’ve probably read hundreds of other authors so I can’t remember any of the couples like I should. I read the first Gallagher book in June of 2012 and since then I’ve read over 1500 books so, no, I don’t recall that book or the characters either. Time to put Ruby, Arnie, Scarlet, Jackson, Rissa, Boone, Maddie, and all the others to rest. It’s just too ridiculous to think someone will remember characters from book one when you mention them in book 20 or 25 or 30. But, that’s just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

There was no sex and one kiss at the end of the book.

As to the narrator: Eric Dove is one of my favorite narrators. He does an excellent job of giving the women their own distinct voice, as well as the men, and reads with great emotion.

This story is about two people who have lost their love for each other due to circumstances and have lived with the consequences til now. Gib Douglas has been on the road for a long time and has nowhere to really call home. He has decided to come home to Sweetgrass Springs for Christmas and to reconnect with those he cares about. The last person he expects to see is the girl who promised to marry him but ended up sending him away and marrying someone else.
Dulcie Maquire has returned to Sweetgrass Springs to raise her 4 children after the death of her husband. She is barily making ends meet and is working at Ruby's. The last thing she expects is to see the man she still loves and has followed his career walk into Ruby's. She tries to keep away because she is afraid that if he finds out the truth about why she sent him away so he could follow his dreams, he wont forgive her. Can these two find their way back to each other?

This was such a sweet story. The narrator we do good that you could tell which character it was by his voice. I have listened to audio books that don't come close to that quality. It is one of the reasons I stopped.

With Be Mine for Christmas, I will definitely be going back to audio. I could listen while I cooked, decorated the tree, etc.

Gib and Dulcie's story was filled with so much emotion. The sacrifices Dulcie made for her kids, and Gib's willingness to step in when she needed him, just touched your heart. Also Knowing that neither of them ever stopped loving the other took the romance factor over the top. Even Dulcie's secret was a blip on the radar.

In this story, you also got to revisit so many
Sweetwater characters. And the icing on the cake was that all of this occurred during the Christmas season.

Sweetgrass Springs Stories

I just finished Be Mine This Christmas telling the story of Gib and Dulcie and I can't get enough of all Jean's Texas Hero stories. I am really going to hate to get to the last one in the series and there are no more. I feel like I know everyone personally and want to go to Texas to visit. I highly recommend all Jean Brashears books.

Dulcie is a very selfish woman. She makes a decision about her and Gib's future without talking with him. In fact, she lies to him, drives him away, and abandons him when he was waiting for her. She purposefully hurts him and denies him the right to raise his own child. Not everyone should be together and her betrayal is too much to forgive.

I always enjoy the narrator, Eric Dove.

I really enjoyed this Christmas novella! It is really sweet, has heartbreak, surprise child, a second chance romance. I’m usually not about second chance romances but this one flowed really nicely and it’s an easy read!

I thought they got together quickly, but when you think of their history and both of them loving each other forever there was only the details to work out. This was a lovely quick read into the town of Sweetgrass.
Narrator was awesome as always.

Be Mine This Christmas

I love this series, even though it seems like everyone had some heartbreak or another growing up. They all arrived in Sweet grass Springs, found love, friends, and a home.

Review of Be Mine This Christmas

This was a very cute story. Had a few too many other plots going on and made it confusing at times.

Love it

This book wasn’t long enough for its own story. I’m a bit greedy and wanted more to read about this couple.

In my opinion this was Jackson and Veronica's story again. It was just too similar for my taste. In my opinion this novella was not needed and did not add anything to the series.

This is a reunion and reconciliation story. A fairly common trope, with a secret kid, a sacrifice so that one can leave the small town to make his name in NASCAR. There are a few things that give the old trope a new spin, so Brashear has done her homework and added another feather to her Sweetgrass Springs cap.

A sweet story of 2 lonely people who didn't realize what they gave up

This is a very pleasant of 2 people whose lives separated when they were moving from being teenagers toward adulthood.A visit to his only living family brings Gib back to Sweetgrass Springs for Christmas. In the years since he left. He has become a successful auto racing owner and the pain he felt when his girlfriend didn't want him has led him to focus on his career rather than having a wife and children.

Dulcimer was Gib's girlfriend when she was young, but she feared he would lose his dreams if they stayed together, so she refused contact with him. Fast foreword 15 years and she is still living in Sweetgrass Springs, with 4 children -one teenage daughter and 3 younger special needs children she adopted.

This story revolves around them as they alternate between finding long-buried feelings and resisting the pain they might bring upon each other. A gentle, loving book peopled by small town caring and support, loving families and hidden feelings and fears. A satisfying Christmas story with a nice resolution.
