I live in Alabama. Yes, I know. Stereotypes abound about the south in general and Alabama in particular. Some are true. Some are not. I graduated from Auburn University and then attended law school at The University of Alabama. There’s a big football rivalry between the two schools you may have heard about. It’s a major thing down here.
For almost thirty years I practiced law all over the state. No need to bore you with that, except for the fact that my job allowed me to meet real-life characters of all types. Some good. Some bad. And some were just plain outlandish. Not surprisingly, I often develop characters based on the interesting people I met through the years.
I’m still a lawyer, at least technically. But now I’m doing something I truly love – writing. As an attorney, I wrote all the time. Mostly, mind-numbingly detailed legal motions and briefs and such. Now, I can write what I want.
I have an awesome wife who puts up with my eccentricities ¬– writing late into the night or hanging out in the garage fiddling with old cars. She is a lawyer too, but a much better one than I ever was and beautiful to boot. I’m a lucky guy. I hope you enjoy the books!
THE KLASS by Dave Klasing is an underpowered thriller. The book is hampered by cliched characters and action scenes that drag on with little in the way of payoff. There is a plot that hinges on a few characters ability to be both loyal to a cause (and a mysterious group of people they know little or nothing about) that is decades out of date while simultaneously having the ability to be disloyal to the causes and principles they both grew up with and swore to protect. There are protracted scenes of lawyerly hand-wringing over the right thing to do (this by the good, Southern lawyers) while the FBI (the bad Northern lawyers) give new meaning to "The ends justify the means.) Herein the FBI, seemingly not caring about any events here ever ending in a courtroom, disregard the Constitution and civil liberties with hardly a care. And what is the cause behind The Klass, it's hovering puppetmasters, The Doyens, and the story in general? Rich white Southerners want more money and power and less control by the Federal Government. This cause has been building, as has the secret organization behind it, for 80 years without raising the suspicion of the Feds. But now they have unleashed a secret plot, are in the process of stealing a top secret weapons platform and, more importantly, the method of making the fuel for the device. THE KLASS is more of a "The South Will Rise Again!" rant than an effective thriller. There is an audience for this book, just not here where I am. I won this book through GoodReads.
The Klass is a page-turner. The author does a great job at taking different angles of a greater story and weaving them down into a compelling read. There is action and intrigue and the characters are real, showing every human trait from joy and greed to intelligence and stupidity. The book left me considering if his scenario could really happen! Pick it up, like me, I bet you want the second book now!
This was such a good read. I was bored aprox. the first 20 pgs. or so but once the several plots were set I was hooked. Thank you Mr. Klasing for such a good, entertaining book. I look forward to reading more books by you.
The Klass is a tale of good old Southern boys network and how through college Greek organizations they manipulate the workings of law, business, economics, government, and student organizations with a goal of a free South. This was a free advance read through Goodreads.com.
I found "The Klass - Tyros" to be a really great read and one that was hard to put down. I look forward to more of Dan Klassing's worl.I won this great book on GoodReads and like I do with most my wins I will be paying it forward by giving my win either to a friend or library to enjoy.
Starts slow as character development builds, but a good plot line and intriguing twists. I won my copy through Goodreads and was happy to have been introduced to the series. Blew through the book in about a day and devoured the second in the series the next day. Quick, easy and entertaining read.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and am looking forward to the next one in the series. There's a good plot to the story, and it was a quick and easy read. Great book!
I won my copy of this book from goodreads first reads. I wasn't sure about it at first but it turned out to be a very well written thriller with twists I did not see coming. I did enjoy it
