Our instructor of calligraphy has an absolutely infallible method of showing you how to form and learn five different Italic and Black Letter styles. Illustrations, photos, texts, and exercises guide you as you learn to use the pen. “Detailed instruction, simple enough for children to follow.” —Book-of-the-Month Club News. “The simplest, most straightforward attempt to teach [calligraphy] yet in print.”—School Library Journal.
This book introduces a couple styles of italic and a couple styles of black lettering in manageable increments, a handful of related letters at a time. There are helpful gridlines in the back that can be copied or traced over for practicing on. These lessons don't include a lot of flourishes, just the basics, so this book would probably make a good starting point for getting used to using a calligraphy pen.
