I’m so unmotivated to write a final review for this book but, I’ll still do so because what can I lose anyway?

This was certainly a ride too. Once again, I wasn’t expecting much from the so called “Mystery” but, to my surprise, I was actually shocked by this one! I wasn’t expecting to actually gasp out loud while everyone stared at me for a good 5 seconds before going back into their business!

I enjoyed this one far more than the other 3 just because of that, just because I gasped. However, I do think that these books are very repetitive and shouldn’t be considered thrillers AT ALL, since it focuses quite a bit more on how the characters feel towards one another and the developing romance ofc.

The plot in here was- sorta wholesome, just because of Ember’s brother totally, and mainly because we got to see the characters from the previous books together having this mission.

This book definitely belongs to the found family trope but eh, I wasn’t still THAT attached to the characters since there was some sort of lack of interaction for me.

P.S: Except for Joe, Joe I love you and I forever will. The rest can go explode 🤗

Overall.
I am inwardly crying as I am writing this review, but this was one hell of a boring book for me. In comparison to the previous one, it lacked the stereotypical man-woman relationship I detest but the flat storyline made up for it. I am SO disappointed in this series because I remember being in love with the savant-series and the first books of the YDA series. To be fair, I started reading this when I was a teenager ~ 17/18 maybe and that was - sadly enough almost 8 years ago so obviously my tastes have changed a lot. This still might be a very pleasant read for someone younger than me, so feel free to give this 290-pages-book a try.

What’s happening.
Ember knows she is in trouble. About to be convicted for the murder of her father, she is kept in an institution for troubled teens where she awaits trials. She knows she needs to do everything in her power to get out of this to care for her twin brother who is - loving and intelligent in his very own ways - not made to survive without Ember's care as their nanny is no longer mentally fit to care for him. But getting out of a murder charge is easier said than done, especially since all evidence points at here, seemingly without any doubt to the authorities. Ember has an ambitious lawyer that seems to believe in her but Ember is caught between the will to break free and finally enjoying the fact that she got rid of her monstrous father and the unbearable need to protect her brother. She has her hands full and certainly has no brain power left for a theatre play of Shakespeare's A Midsummernight's Dream. Sadly, the juvenile centre doesn't leave her much of a choice. If it weren't for the gentle Joe...

Joe is the last remaining single in his YDA unit and certainly didn't expect a troubled but inherently sweet convict girl to entice him a lot more than she should; beyond the limits of his mission. This is the reason why he feels very conflict to use his slowly building friendship with Em and the corresponding deeper feelings she might have in order to extract vital information out of her. Even if he tried, his feelings alone make it almost impossible for him to stay away from her. And it soon turns out that there is more at stake than just information about a gangster network: a radioactive cargo is about to find its way to Great Britain, with the capacity to unleash its nuclear powers and kill countless of lives. Time is pressing and so Joe has no choice but to go balls deep into this business. Too bad that Ember is about 100% too smart to not look through the entire scheme, uncovering the mission and setting an end to Joe's games, which weren't much of a game to him to begin with.

I feel like I am always one of the first people to read Joss Stirlings new books, and I have no idea how because I love them so much and anticipant them so much.
This was such a wonderful end to the series, but I am so sad that the series is now finished, but happy it finished with my favourite guy Joe.
I loved how this book explored putting up emotional blocks, protecting yourself, and living with a rough past. Ember was so lovable, and honestly I want to become her best friend and teach her the world can be good.
Now we need more new series' by Joss now that the Savant and YDA series are done :(

Sadly my least favourite of this series. I thought it lacked character and fell flat in many ways. It was also very very very cheesy. Too much.

As you all know, I'm a huge fan of Joss Stirling's books. They pick me up when I'm feeling down, and they give me the warm and fuzzies when I need it, with a nice dose of originality! Her Savants series is my complete favourite and I so wish there where more books in that series, but this series comes in a close second, and I'm so sad to see it finish with this book!

There's intrigue from the start as usual, as Stirling combines mystery, action and romance for one last time....or maybe not. I can hope. Everyone's undercover, so we get to see a lot of Nathan, Kate, Raven and Kieran. Damien and Rose make an appearance but not as much as the others which made me a little sad as this is supposed to be the last book. (I'm so hoping she'll do a series with the branch that Joe's opening in the US. PLEASE JOSS PLEASE!).

I've loved Joe in every single one of the other books and I've been waiting to finally get his story, and the fact he's still dealing with the after effects of something from the first book made this book even better. No detail is unmissed and it made Joe an even more believable character, you could understand his motivations and how he ticked. Ember is the perfect match for Joe, and I really liked seeing the two different sides to Ember. The real her we see from her POV and the fake her that Joe see's in the beginning. I really love how Stirling gives us both POV's, so we see Embers side of things and then Joe's side. We start off with Ember and get to know her, but she still makes you question if she did it...but you could understand why she would. Then we see Joe and you see how Ember appears to the outside world and that makes you wonder too, so you're constantly trying to guess for the first part of the book did she or didn't she? And then you discover what kind of person she really is, and the plot thickens. I love it. Such a brilliant approach.

Ember herself may be prickly on the outside, but you can see throughout the book why she made up her facade, to protect herself and her brother. She's intelligent, she's funny, and she loves her brother so much it was so heartwarming to see, and I loved her brother too!

There are so many brilliant characters in this, like Max, Ember's brother! And Henry, the theatre director. And speaking of, I really loved the way the play, Midsummer Night's Dream, was used in the book and adapted. But I have to say....Raymond may be a tiny character in the grand scheme of the book, but he has one of the best lines and Henry's response to it cracked me up a ridiculous amount. I could picture the scene in my head so clearly, and the way they spoke and the difference so clearly!

Scorched kept me guessing right up until the end, and the surprise reveal that became so obvious in the moment it was revealed! The killer wasn't at all who I thought it was! This is a brilliant final book, wrapping everything up for each of the characters along with Joe and Ember's story. We find out what the others are planning to do and so on. It made me quite sad actually because I'm going to miss the group!

The characters are relatable, and believable and you end up rooting for them in spades, as well as fully understanding them and their actions. It was brilliant to see Joe get his happy ending, he and Ember where so well matched, and get a glimpse of how the story ends for the other couples, although Damien and Rose will forever be my favourite! I'm so, so sad to see this series end, especially as Savants came to an end recently as well, and there was a nice little connection between the two series in this book too!

Scorched is the perfect ending to this series, and is full of everything I loved in the other books. A perfect blend of humour, action, mystery, tension and romance that keeps you guessing throughout!

‘Scorched’ is the final book in Joss Stirling’s Young Detectives series. It revolves around Joe, who was introduced in earlier instalments of the series and the mysterious Ember Lord, who at the beginning of the book is being held on suspicion of her father’s murder. The story places Ember in the middle of a terrible situation. She struggles to recollect the events of that night and how she came to be standing over her father’s dead body. She is initially not sure of her own innocence and has only one desire – to protect her twin brother Max.

In the training centre where she is being held pending trial, Joe and co. are charged with finding out what she knows about her father’s shady business dealings. Before they do that though, they have to get close to Ember and gain her trust. Hence the staging of a Shakespeare play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, giving Joe the opportunity to get close to Ember without raising her suspicions. I loved the scenes where they are staging the play because it gives Ember a chance to show her true character. She has had to hide who she is to protect herself from her father and his associates but through the words of Shakespeare she begins to open up and we see what kind of person she really is.

I thought it was interesting to see Joe having so many doubts too about his suitability to be part of the Young Detectives Agency. He is still trying to recover from the events of the first book in the series and his confidence has been knocked terribly. While he is attempting to help Ember open up, she unknowingly, begins to help him see what he is capable of.

I loved seeing all of the other couples in the story too: Kieron and Raven, Nathan and Kate and Damien and Rose. It reminded me of all the great adventures they’ve had together and what they’ve had to endure to come out stronger on the other side.

‘Scorched’ was a worthy finale to the series but it was sad to say goodbye to so many well loved characters. I can’t wait to see what Joss Stirling is going to write next. I will definitely be along for the ride!

I absolutely loved this book. I knew I would enjoy it as I had enjoyed all other books in the series and Joss Stirling has written one of my all time favorite series. I enjoyed this installment more than the second and third book in this series.

Joss has a way of writing characters that I love. For all ten of her books I have read I have loved the characters she has created. And Ember and Joe were some of my favorites and I am sad that with this being the last installment I won't be able to see any Ember and Joe being cute in the background as we got from the three other couples.

There is also something about Joss Stirling's writing that is just right for me. She writes in a way that gets me hooked on the story from page one and that makes me wish I had the time to read all day long. And while it can be a bit cheesy with the pop culture references, it is the right writing style for me.

I also found the plot of this one very enjoyable. All four books in the series are a romance with some sort of mystery going on as well. In this one the mystery is all centered around the murder of Ember's father and Ember being the prime suspect. And while Ember was one of our perspectives she does not give the readers or other characters much to go off of. I really loved how Joss Stirling wrote this plot and how well she wrote the characters in a way that is made sense.

I can see how these books are not for everyone, but they are definitely for me and if you like a lighthearted romance with a mystery element I would definitely recommend checking this series out.

I can't believe it's over 😭😭😭 I loved this! I think it might have been my all-time favourite from this series. Just getting to see all the characters again was brilliant. As a Shakespeare fan I loved those elements. The mystery was so good and the ending was perfect! I actually cried. I'm so sad this series is over because it's truly amazing! I cannot recommend it enough!

I don’t think there's anything that could be considered a massive spoiler but if you haven’t read all the books little things might be spoilt, so wouldn't recommend reading this.

I loved this book. I thought the plot was my favourite of all the books, I thought it was so good, but.l the romantic plot wasn’t my fav the first one probably was.

I love how all the last name kinda have a link, like Kieran Storm and Raven Stone don’t particularly have a connection, and I can’t remember Kate and Nathan’s last names but there was Damien Castle and Rose Knight and then Ember Lord and Joe Masters, so I just thought that was a cool little detail.

What I also thought was quite clever is how the girls became kinda more criminal (I know that’s not really right but it was the best way to describe it). Like Raven was involved in the mission but mainly because she was a scapegoat, and then Kate was part of the YDA and then a mission just went wrong, Rose was helping her father who was a criminal but she didn’t really have criminal tendencies, and then Ember was suspected of murder and like was supposed to take over her father’s ‘business’.

I was kinda shocked that Ember broke the pattern, she didn’t go into the YDA, but good for her that she followed her dream of acting. At least she would’ve been a Cobra because that was the only one left (again not a great way of describing it but still). But when Taylor Flint (at least I’m pretty sure that was his name) said something like ‘one of mine’ or whatever, that threw me off so much I was like 100% Isaac is going to offer her a place and then it didn’t happen and I was like WHAT! But anyway I think it was the right thing for her not to join the YDA.

It was really good, I enjoyed it so much and I cried at the end because I finished it and they graduated 😭. If I was at that graduation I would be bawling my eyes out.

Overall I’d give it 4 maybe 4 and a half stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The next novel in the Struck series, Scorched is the story of the forth and final team member and his love connection with Ember Lord, a young woman accused of the first degree murder of her crime lord father. They meet when he is given the job of befriending her so that they can get critical information out of her, and to find out if she was guilty. Being raised by a crime lord made Ember a hardened and cautious person, but not a murderer... she thinks. While in the jail, Joe uses a performance of the classic play A Midsummers Night Dream to get closer to Ember, but time is running out, and if they don't learn to trust each other, it will be the end of both of them... and maybe the world.
Like every other novel by Joss Stirling that I have ever read, Scorched was wonderfully written and would be a perfect sit down summer read. Don't get me wrong, the stories are not masterpieces, but they are satisfying and fluidly written. The romance in the novel was sincere and very well developed. The readers grow to sympathize with Ember and to love Joe with his sweet quirkiness. The undertones of espionage and danger are prevalent throughout the novel and they only enhance the storytelling and plot. The plot was simple but elegant, which makes it a good read to use to relax. I really enjoyed the novel, heck I enjoyed the whole series, and that is why I give Scorched the rating of the rating of FOUR STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!

Ember Lord is in prison. Accused of murdering her father, she doesn’t know if she truly committed the crime. But while she is unsure, the YDA is tasked with finding out…

Many well-known members of the YDA have intertwining stories in the conclusion to this much-loved series; their love stories continue and another is created with the long-awaited book belonging to Joe.

Having read a lot of Stirling’s work before and really enjoyed it, I was expecting this book, like all of her other work, to have an exciting plot line and instantly relatable characters. The first three books in the series were all extremely engaging and left me thinking about them for days afterwards. I was just holding out for a book for Joe Masters, who is a cute and fluffy cinnamon roll...

However, I was sadly disappointed in this book. The plot line was just not as gripping as many of Stirling’s other works, with a much slower pace, and the characters were far less relatable; the protagonist, Ember Lord, was actually erring on the side of unlikeable. She is understandably united to forming such relationships, but she just is not right for my Joe.

Having said this, the book itself was not bad; the plot lines from all of the other stories were tied up nicely in the ending and the events did eventually become more exciting. I really enjoyed the cameo appearances from Damien and Rose, and seeing Kate and Raven work together on a case was just beautiful! I did like the book for a quick read, but it wasn't my favourite book of all time.

wow, it was another beautiful Joss Stirling book and another series coming to an end.
I will miss them all once again...

Kieran and Raven that have been my favourites and everyone else as well.

Ember was a fantastic addition to the gang and it was lovely to see Joe's story in the end, after seeing all his friends as couples he finally finds his mate as well.

The characters, plot and development were excellent as well, kept the suspense up till the end(even though the culprit was my first guess).

There should be one more book with Issac's (love) story! :p

but yeah, well done, another awesome book Joss Stirling, you are amazing!

I loved this so much! I honestly think this was the perfect end to the series, and I loved the story, Joe and Ember’s relationship, the other characters, the mystery element, everything! One thing my inner fan girl also loved was the mention of Gifted and Kurt Voss, who play parts in the Finding Sky series! The final scene in Scorched genuinely brought a few tears to my eyes. I’ve mentioned in earlier reviews that sometimes I thought the relationships were a bit rushed, but I really loved the development in this one.

Edit 01/01/21- changing rating as on reflection it’s not one of the best, and the representation isn’t great

Amazing, i was so excited for this book to come out but now that Joss Stirling has finally completed the last book of her last series, i am so proud.
As the rest of the books it is written amazingly well, a light book that can be read in a day. I am in love with it, i am so proud of the turn out, the book has a page turner story and amazing language. The structure and the vocabulary is both complex and developed but they also make the story flow.
I recommend it to anyone who love adventure and a bit of a love story.

The following review is for all four of the books in this series:
I read this book series when I was in my early teens and it is nostalgia that has brought me back to them. As a person now in their early 20s these books are a little immature perhaps. However, for a teenage reader this series is exciting and engaging and funny and a good read. Simply, think James Bond but with less guns and sex and also with a group of teenagers.

Simplistic writing and storyline was really lacking. Characters felt like stereotypes of themselves, but good for young teens wanting to get into books. Loved Joss Stirlings books when I was younger, which is why I thought I'd like this, but I've figured I'm no longer the target audience anymore... :(

Underwhelming; saai; vreemd ongeloofwaardig plot. Laatste 100 pagina's meer gescand dan gelezen. Wordt geadverteerd als een soort romance, maar de romantiek is vrijwel afwezig?!?!? En al die irritante Shakespeare-verwijzingen hingen me behoorlijk de keel uit.

I felt like the revelation of The Who-did-it plot was kind of underwhelming, the execution was a bit simple and didn't make that much of an impact on me. The romance was cute for a while but I think the relationship of the main characters were underdeveloped. Still a fun, simple read.
