C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
I enjoy Sutter’s work. It’s simple, bare bones murder mysteries. Jade is a solid lead, growing in each book. Sutter really cooks up sick bad guys (and girls). They kind of remind me of Criminal Minds set in a small county department.
This one featured female serial killers that were believable. The procedural played out in a logical way that felt like real, everyday police work. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
After reading 3 books in this series, I am done. I was hoping after the first book I was just seeing a writer getting her feet wet and navigating through the process. After the second book, I realized this was probably her style but I really like the characters and plotlines so Ill give this book a shot. After this book, I cant take it anymore. I literally had to skim past sections of the book to force myself to finish it. I wrote a review of book 1 (MANIACAL) on Goodreads to give you an idea where Im coming from.....
I love coffee. I am in a monthly coffee club. I have a cup right next to me now and enjoy the smell and taste of black coffee. But these books are so obsessed with coffee it makes it painful to read them. Never have I seen such a writer's obsession with the consumption and creation of coffee. The characters not only discuss coffee on practically every page of these books, but the author likes to talk about the coffee station, coffee machines, the noises they make, the filters they use, styrofoam cups, travel mugs, serving trays, and all things coffee. This does not exclude doughnuts by the way. The cliché cops like their donuts is not lost at all in these books as the characters consume hundreds of these treats. They also spends a significant amount of time after consuming and making coffee and loading up on doughnuts discussing lunch and dinner, going through drive thrus and eating fast food, going to restaurants and bars (especially one where one of the lead characters works part time), and sometimes discussing the need to eat healthy snacks like carrots and celery sticks. If you took all the useless filler out of these books you would have about 100 pages of great stories. Unfortunately, the stories are watered down in in a sea of coffee, fast food, and total nonsense that seems to only serve to pad the book and satisfy an obsession of the author...and possibly take a swipe at a stereotype of police officers that is kind of obnoxious. Last sentence says it all....
"Don't forget, French crullers are my favorite, and I'll have two."
Too bad.....I really like the characters in these books and was hoping to see where they went and was looking forward to reading how Amber does once she completes the academy but I dont see that happening.
[DISCLAIMER: I got MANIACAL for free, but purchased CAPTIVE and FALLACY for $4.99 each on AMAZON]
A deranged wife believes that her husband had been cheating, and deserves to die. She also believes that she can do God's work by killing other cheating men. Along with her daughters, who have been told to do exactly as their mother asks, they start a killing spree.
Can Jade and her fellow detectives identify the victims and be lead to the perpetrators of these vicious murders?
One thing that I really like about this series is that the police are doing the grunt work and don't get immediate results, or lucky breaks, but they get there eventually. But we don't get bored or feel like the plot is going nowhere because we also follow the criminals and get to understand their thought processes.
I’ll start with giving it a 3 1/2 stars. It’s definitely a big improvement after Captive, which was a massive decline from Maniacal. This book had the most brutal violence and killers for sure, making it pretty chilling to read. The plot and pace of the story was very good and I must say I’m very satisfied with the third installment of this series. I’d also like to say how happy I am that I found this character and books from CM Sutter, I’ve loved them so much I’ve read 3 of her books in two weeks. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and can’t wait for the next book.
It was ok, not as good as the previous books. I didn't understand why Mandy didn't go to the cops sooner, knowing what they were doing were wrong especially knowing her mother's insanity. I also don't get how cops & doctors will deem her brainwashed & unable to put her in a prison instead of an institute. She had a choice & chose to follow her insane mother instruction even though knowing it was wrong.
Fallacy is an exciting serial killer book that destroys a family and innocent family members by the murder of their love ones. the series of books by CM Sutter is in the same police department and has the same central characters and they are wonderful at their jobs and this lady is a great writer and keeps the story moving and very interesting.
I tell ya this is a good series! I've just completed the fourth book. Ready to download the 5th. The characters are very believable and carry over to the next book. This one especially good! Very graphic.
This book was a good read , I did find some repetitive things that made it drag a bit. The mindset of the characters reminded me of some backwoods mountain folk. It was a little too easy to figure out the ending. All in all tho, I did enjoy it.
Families can hide so much from each other. These secrets can be responsible for so much hate and discontent. You will love how these lead to a downfall. Read it!
Fast paced story with a bipolar criminal who controlled the family's behavior and lives with a spouse who tried to protect them by telling them to do what the parent told them to do not realizing that they were being taught criminal behaviour.
If you like crime and how it's committed by mental ill people then you will like how Jade and her partner catch the killers. I've read all 3 in this series twice. It is not for the faint of heart because it is gruesome however good wins and evil does not.
That mother! OMG! Sooo creepy! The twins man do I feel for them ..or at least one of them. This one held my Interest from the beginning and only got better. I enjoy watching Jade grow and learn and take on more. The narration is well done
This was the most intriguing plot line I have seen in quite a long time. I think that the author is improving with each new book published. I look forward to reading more of her work.
