Snake Charmer

HEAT ღ HUMOR ღ HEABiker Rom-ComDad was an outlaw. Mom was the daughter of The Man. I’ve never belonged in either world, always stuck somewhere in between. My job with the sheriff’s department pays the bills, but I’m faking my way through life. No one is the least bit interested in seeing behind my mask until Journey Sheerer. My temperamental temptress knows as little about romance as I do. We might crash and burn, but I can’t let her go. All of these months, I’ve waited for my shot with the girl sporting a scary scowl and an even scarier right hook. Having finally made my move, I don’t doubt it’ll be one helluva bumpy ride."Snake Charmer" contains graphic sexual content, violent situations, and harsh language. The book is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

3.5* not quite the book I expected.

I absolutely loved 'Black Sheep' and couldn't wait to start 'Snake Charmer' Journey was a great character and one of the many many highlights from 'Sheep' and Donovan was a bit of a mystery so I was looking forward to another great read.
This book is full of the same characters, it has some fabulous lines and made me laugh or smile most of the way through but it somehow fell short.
For me the whole Journey/Donovan thing missed the mark, I can't put my finger on exactly what didn't work, I do know Donovan made me dizzy at times, so while the rest of the book flowed they didn't, well not for me anyway.
It's difficult to rate this book, my first thought was 3* but despite the fact that this wasn't quite the book I expected it's still well written with great characters and sharp sarcastic lines so 3* just doesn't seem fair.
I can't wait for Poppy's book as soon as 'he' was mentioned in 'Sheep' we knew he was meant for Poppy and now it's just a case of waiting for her book.
Some of my favourite lines, although there are so many it's hard to just pick a few but it gives you an idea of what to expect.

"It’s not all about you.”
"It’s fifty percent about me.”
"That number seems high.”

"I don’t like country music.”
"No one does. We listen to it to piss off other people.”

“We have an audience.”
"My family is very close. If you think today is bad, you should see our pap smear appointments.”

"I’m heading outside to talk to Court.”
"Take Otto with you,” I announce. “He needs more time around men. I don’t want him growing a uterus.”
Otto frowns. “I don’t want that either.”
Grinning at his reaction, I consider explaining what a uterus is but decide his childhood has been tough enough.

4 1/2 stars. So a few things you can always count on from Bijou Hunter 1) her heroes will be crazy possessive for the heroine (love), 2) she will give you great epilogues, and 3) you will laugh, and more than likely get strange looks from people around you. This book was just what I have come to expect from Bijou Hunter. I have said it before but it bares repeating I love Bijou Hunter and her book just work for me. I also love that she isn't afraid (or maybe she is and just kicks fear in the face) to try something new, and for that alone I will love her forever.

We met Donovan and Journey in Court and Justice's book. Donovan is Courts police officer cousin, and Journey is Justice's older stronger sister. After Donovan saw Journey at the fair were she defends her sister against Courts crazy ex Donovan makes a plan to make her his. When he pulls Journey over to ask her out Journey can't believe his gumption but she also can't deny the attraction and agree's to a date. Neither Journey or Donovan are what they put out there to the world and both feel like the are fumbling through at times but Journey has a loving wild family at her back while Donovan is alone.

After one night together both wonder if they are cut out for a relationship but what is stronger is their desire to see the other again. Starting a relationship is never easy but both find themselves fumbling through but also falling in love at the same time. Both have a lot to learn and areas they need to grow in to learn to work together and decide if they are meant to be together. But both come into this relationship with their own issues including the fact that they both come from very definite worlds and they both soon realize that happy endings don't always come easy but sometimes people will need to fight for each other.

Honestly I go into these books knowing I will love them. I always do, and I always will. Bijou Hunter has a way with writing passion and possessive heroes with funny and she throws in the sad just to make it well rounded but she makes it work and she show us the bright happy ending and characters who aren't afraid to work and fight for it. In a book world with so many extra ordinary heroes it's nice to see some regular guys who are also extraordinarily amazing and that is Donovan. In some way he is broken growing up in a home with a absent father, crazy mother and grandparents who don't love or completely accept him. Though all of that Donovan learned to be alone and Journey and her wild and crazy family in his life is a shock to say the least to Donovan.

But through that all the one true constant in Donovan's life (besides his dog, Kitty) is his love for Journey. Journey is just as crazy as she was in her sisters book but we get to see her insecurities and why she is so strong. She loves her family. We also get to see her relationship with Otto (Court's sons, half brother) the love she has for that little boy was so sweet, and I loved seeing their relationship. We also see how much she grows to love and depend on Donovan, a man who see's her always.

This book is so full, but if you read book one you can't expect anything else from this family, but I loved every minute and Bijou Hunter really makes it work and never feel overwhelming. This family is hilarious, I laughed so much reading this book(and yes I got funny looks). Not only are they funny but the love each other so much and for as crazy they are thats how much they love not only each other but the kids they bring into their home to care for and raise, and anyone who comes into their home.

I loved that we got to see more of Christine and Jared (Journey's parents) and I really hope we get to see what happens to them. We also get to meet Zeb Christine's dad. I had tons of questions about him after book one and I am so glad we get to see him and get answers in this book. And for as horrible as their grandmother is I liked Zeb their grandfather. I will say Poppy shines in this book. She is just so funny in this book, yes she was before but I loved her in this one.

As I said above you are guaranteed a great epilogue or two from this author and this book is no exception. I loved the world that was created here. I really hope this isn't the end because There is just so much I want to still see, and I'm just not ready to say goodbye to it.

Low angst, small town romance about 2 non-cookie cutter MCs. Both have intimacy issues - the h being a self-sufficient grump, with a heart of gold, while the H is innately a laidback man of detachment. The H is pretty messed up, he has never had anyone love or care about him, never known how to love - he just fakes his way through life and takes the path of least resistance. Reading about the h/H together was painful, it felt more like a starter relationship than the love of a lifetime! For the h's part it helped that she wasn't needy and didn't need much of the mushy stuff; and for the H's part he was so hot and cold, that it really helped we got his POV otherwise I'd have wanted the h to dump him. Eventually the H decides to step out of the land of the living dead and there is a HEA.

Also I read this book bcos the H was a cop, but in the end he does become an "outlaw" in a club which does drug-dealing and beats up/possibly kills people, so that was disappointing:/

Donovan has always been the black sheep of the Mooney family. The son born from the wild child daughter who brought her family shame and a biker who he never met. Donovan followed his family into the sheriff's department, he didn't like the job, he didn't hate it either. His whole life had been that way, never having a specific feeling to anything until he meets Journey Sheerer.

Journey lives with her sisters, her sisters biker hubby and children she is not related to but is raising. Otto is her boy for now and she is teaching him everything he needs to know to have a bright future but not take crap from anyone. When Donovan pulls her over and asks her on a date, she doesn't know what to do. She doesn't date and is pretty sure she wont like it. Donovan expects the same, but their is a magnet that pulls them together that neither can explain. It scares them both as they are both independent and when push comes to shove, it is Donovan who has to figure out if he can continue to be aloof or if he needs to let Journey go.

This was quite different than the first book in the Rawkfist series. Donovan was in his head a lot, I think a lifetime of being ignored played a part to the way he was. Journey's family freaks him out, loved the ending. I am so excited to see what happens to Poppy...can't wait.

Another great love story by BJ. This time it was between two anti-social people. It had one of the most unromantic romantic couples!

Random Ramblings
•I love love love the banter
•Oh Otto…

•Didn’t appreciate the H’s hot and cold act but his talk with Otto made me cry

Overall Feeling:

This book had me laughing from the very beginning!

4.5 stars. This is Journey and Donovan's story. This one was a bit different than Bijou's other stories but I still loved it just as hard. We first met Journey and Donovan in Black Sheep. Journey is Justice's sister and Donovan is Court's cousin. When they met there was an instant attraction.

Journey really stole the show in this one for me. I was a little nervous for her book as she seemed a bit alpha to me in Black Sheep. While she is totally kickass, she has a very sweet, vulnerable side. All Journey has wanted since she was a teen is to be a mom and have a family. She is so loyal, kind, and loving. Her family is everything to her and when she's with them it's the only time she feels like she can totally be herself. She took in a little boy named Otto (this is part of book 1) and she loves him and treats him like she would her own kid. She has so much love to give. The interactions and banter between her and her sisters literally had me laughing out loud and hard. With Donovan she wasn't as sure of herself but she didn't hold herself back either. She still put everything she had into her relationship with him even thinking that it could possibly lead her to heartbreak.

Donovan is what I found different in this story from her others. Donovan wears a mask everyday, never showing anyone who he truly is. From the moment he saw Journey he knew that she was what he wanted. In that respect he is the same as Bijou's other Hs. Donovan lives the life everyday that is expected of him. He became a cop because that is what Mooney men do. He never allows anyone to get close to him because he can't let his mask fall. He only has brief interactions with women that never lead to anything more. He knows he wants Journey but also doesn't know how he's going to let down the walls for her to step through. So, in a way it seems like he's stringing her along and that he will never change. The only other person he has a somewhat close relationship with is his cousin Court. Even this he keeps hidden from the rest of the world because Court is in the Rawkfist MC and the Mooney side of his family will not accept this relationship because cops aren't supposed to mix with the local MC. There really are so many layers to Donovan that are slowly peeled away throughout this story.

Journey and Donovan have a lot to fight through to get their HEA. But Journey's a fighter so she is up to the challenge. It takes Donovan a bit but when he finally decides he absolutely can not let Journey go, he fights harder than anyone for what he wants. He not only becomes the man that Journey needs but he also becomes the man he was always destined to be.

"I don't know about you, but I can't give up. For me, it'll never be over. If you dump me and find another man and have his kids, I'll still wait for you to find your way back to me. I can't see any other way for this to end than us together."

The Rawkfist Crew , The Earlham Women ,, The Town it self , theres not a thing i dont like ... a whitty book that i loved .. Lots of laugh out loud moments & Journey is no exception the oldest of the daugthers shes the leader in her qwerky way... she loves Big but again takes no crap .. the banter is always fun to read... & in walks Donovan a man who when first read about is very self assured but the more you read the more you see he is a slighty damaged man , a man who has grown from his lonely child hood to be a man who is still the same .... an interesting read...its a bit of a tug back & forth... but you can see why, but slowly he breaks to open up thourghts ,feelings, etc things move for Christine & Jared, the Club , Justice & Court the kids & 16 year old Poppy has an admirer or at least she been told by Emmett that he'll be bedding her in two years , that scene had tears of laughter running ... too funny ... as always very Hot SexyTimes Bijou Hunter knows how to write Hot Sex Scenes... Well worth My Time & Money.. Enjoyied It throughlly .. :-)

I just couldn't find it in me to care a whole bunch about Journey and Donovan so I gave the storyline 3 stars, but I love her characters and how they interact with each other so much that I bumped it up a star just for that. It's just that good. Bijou Hunter is the best at quirky funny characters and dialogue. I still will read Poppy's and Emmett's story though.

Ok, so this book took me by surprise.
The previous book, Black Sheep, had a more lighthearted chemistry and we were introduced to the family and all their dysfunction and snarkiness.
Don't despair, there is more of the same in this book, but the author pleasantly surprised me by the depth in the main characters' romance.
It was very well done and shows a whole different side to people in relationships that are struggling to find themselves or just fit in. And how it affects them in building a future with someone.
I think it is fitting, since Journey is portrayed as such a hardass, that her relationship wouldn't come easy. And I don't think she would have been attracted to someone "normal", she was the best person to appreciate a stalker approach. And they make a beautiful couple once things adjust.

I enjoyed the honesty from Donovan, there was no other woman for him. He just had to deal with his demons so he could enjoy life.
I enjoyed the same with Journey, her honesty was fresh as well as the threat to turn him into cat food :)
Funny dialogue and worth a read!

Donovan and Journey are perfectly matched. Both are emotionally stunted, awkward around others, prone to speak their mind (even when they shouldn't) and subconsciously narcissistic.

Wow, that makes them sound bad huh? Sorry, didn't mean to leave that impression. They are probably the only people on the planet suited to put with each others' personality quirks. I believe that Journey and Donovan would have been better suited as a sideline romance, they should have fell in love during the course of other main characters' books.

Having said that; you couldn't have paid me to skip this book. The side characters, and interactions and antics between this crazy family MORE than made up for any lacks that I perceived in this particular relationship. I simply CAN'T WAIT for Poppy's book!!!

I loved the first book but this one not so much. There was a few inconsistencies like Jared's fwb name was Tina in the first book then Jane in the second, then we had Becca supposedly only getting 2 years when in the first it was 6(or 8) but should be half if she acted right. Idk it was ok just not my cup of tea. I also think these are the kinda books you don't really read through in one setting more of a spaced out type. Anywho it was just eh to me.

Journey & Donovan, I was excited to read their story.
Journey is and comes from a loud, boisterous, no filter, family.
Donovan is considered the family bastard, and he just floats through life hanging in the shadows.
Loved their story.

I enjoy the interplay between the sisters and everyone else. The things that come out of their mouths are quite funny. This story is about two people who have built up walls, try to make it work in a relationship, and have a few bumps in their road to a happy ending. After what Journey did for Justice in the previous book, I was excited to see what kind of man she found and how that would work out for her. Even though I really wanted Journey's story, I found it difficult to connect these two characters. To me it felt like they had some awkward interactions and a push-pull kind of relationship that affected how I read the story. The character's connection to one another did not feel like it was strong and they just did not seem like the right fit for most of the book. I found that I didn't really start to enjoy the story until the last few chapters. This story wasn't as good as the other ones Bijou has written because for me, the relationship wasn't as good as the ones in the other books. I didn't really love this one.

Journey's Soft Side

After reading the first book in this series, I only saw the tough version of Journey. She was tough at first but she softened up once she started dating Donovan. He, on the other hand, I had a hard time liking. He just wasn't that interesting to me. Which I guess was the actual point of his character but I thought the dynamic of them as a couple was a disappointment.
I did enjoy the family interactions though. I absolutely love Journey's family and look forward to reading more of the sassy sisters witty humor!

Journey and Donovan are the epitome of relationship disfunction. Journey has never really been in one and Donovan is more of the hit it and quit type, never wanted to see past anyones surface. Together is that disfunction that works for them. Journey keeps a shield of armor disguised as a brash demeanor. Donovan just refuses to be himself, preferring an almost reclusive personal life.

This is my confession: Snake Charmer is an OK book. I did like Journey more as a character than I did Justice. At times the back and forth between emotion of Donovan and Journey were enough to give you whiplash and Donovan did get a bit old at some points with his 'I love you but I don't know if we can work but don't give up on me'. Journey's repetitive choice in words, much like Justice's in the previous book did -at times- get on my nerves. All in all, this didn't really feel like a Bijou Hunter book. The first book felt that way also. I am looking forward to Poppy's book. I have high hopes for her. I'd also like to hear more on Christine and Jared.

I received an arc by the author for a honest review.

Wow, I think Bijou gets better and better with each book, and although I received an arc of this book I will also be buying it because I want to support creativity.

This book took me through the wringer but I could not put it down, it was a combination of laughter and sadness but in a good way. I love Journey and Donovan two "broken" people that want love but don't know how to have it, especially Donovan. I love every single character in this book, from the MC to the supporting casts, they are all hilarious and they make me want more and more of them. When I stared reading this story , I really didn't want to rush but to savour this story but it was really hard to do. I was also surprised by how sad I felt at times but the honesty in the writing kept me going and kept me interested. I cannot wait to see Poppy and Emmett's story and now I'll have go back and read Justice's and Court story, that's one of the things I do love about Bijou's book you can go back and read them again and again.

This book was great! Just like the first - Black Sheep.
Journey and Donovan were both leery of relationships but they worked so well together. Journey stuck with Donovan even when he freaked and tried to freeze her out. And Donovan accepted all of Journey's quirks.
I love the way Bijou Hunter handles dialogue. It's so realistic. And funny.

Seeing Justice and Court and Christine and all of the kids was also great. Without detracting from the main characters of this story it only adds to the cohesive feeling of each story line. While each book is its own self contained story it is also a continuation of the stories of the secondary characters that we have come to love. And I love that there is always at least one epilogue. Epilogues are the best! And Bijou Hunter handles them with pizzazz that leaves the reader extremely happy even though a great book has come to an end.

I cannot WAIT for Poppy's story. Emmett is going to have his hands full.

I love Journey from Black Sheep but in Snake Charmer she loses that charm that I liked.

Then the on and off indecisiveness of the H bothers me…a lot.

description

I felt that with someone like Journey at least deserves someone twice as intense than her.

I just didn’t buy their relationship.
It felt forced and Donovan is not the sexy mysterious character I imagined from Black Sheep.

I kept on reading hoping that Journey will break up with him at some point.

The only thing tolerable in this book is the sister’s relationship.
It still felt genuine.

Now onto Poppy’s!
Really having my finger’s crossed for this one.
