Bryce and Wesley have been best friends for years and they've shared a lot. From dorms to the same women—and men. Bryce sees all the change happening around him, knows Wesley is getting fed up. They’ve been doing their dance of casually hooking up with one another and others since their college days.
Now they've transitioned from care-free early twenties, to their late twenties and life is settling down, Wesley wants more. If he can't, he doesn't know if he can stay. But Bryce has the responsibility of a family business that fell on his shoulders after a tragedy, and doesn’t want to hold Wesley back in his small hometown, especially if he doesn’t know if he can commit for the right reasons.
Others come and go but Wesley and Bryce have been each other's constant. Now that emotions run deeper, they have a huge decision to make. Do they go their separate ways, continue being best friends that eventually become exes, or do they take the next big step as a unit?
Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.
It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.
Exes is crazy sexy and super sweet! I really enjoyed this low-angst, best-friends-to-lovers-to-something-more story.
The dialogue was spot on, as were Bryce's internal struggles. I really got where Bryce was coming from, but I'm so glad he trusted Wesley and their friendship.
The few editing issues didn't detract from the story (much), but I found a glaring content error:
In the first chapter, Bryce and Wesley's friend (and ex) Dabney is referred to as a married woman. Her husband, Jason, is mentioned in passing. About a year later, in the epilogue (which totally rocked, BTW), Dabney's WIFE, Ana, is mentioned. Wait, what?
I prefer the wife, honestly, but, WTF on the inconsistency.
3.5 rounded up because the sex, dear baby jesus, the sex.
This one's pretty fluffy and low-angst -- short and sweet, as they say. But I adored Bryce & Wesley. And they're live now! Only on Amazon! Buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M19WVJR/
This was a very sweet and hot "friends to lovers story".
I enjoyed reading it, though I have to say, I like my books to be a bit more angsty. There isn't a whole lot going on in this story. It's just two men establishing their relationship.
Exes by Kade Boehme was such a flufftastic story. It's an endearing tale of friends, exes, casual hook ups, and trust.
My highlights:
-Bryce and Wesley. They were fun, sweet, loyal- just all around good guys.
-Plot. It's a simple slice of life storyline. I loved that there weren't crazy villains nor any over the top drama. It's two friends in love who jump in and take a chance.
-Dual POV.
-Flawless pace.
-The smexy scenes. Good golly Ms. Molly! *fans self*
-And a great ending.
Editing. It's been addressed in reviews, so I wanted to address it as well. I know there was a discrepancy and some minor errors. I have been advised that the issues have been fixed. Please, don't let it deter you from giving this novella a chance.
I had such a delightful time reading this story. The way they spoke and touched each other gave me butterflies. If you need a shorty to take you to a happy place and relieve you of everyday life, I highly recommend this one. 4.5 Stars!
A very nice low-angst friends to lovers story with a very nice HEA.
Bryce and Wesley have been best friend and occasional fuckbuddies for years. But both have noticed something has changed between them. It is until Wesley comes right out and say he wants more that Bryce finally understands what that something is.
I really liked this. Not much stand in these guys’ way. They are close friends, they love each other and they have wild monkey sex. Yes, this was good!
I was really confused about one thing though. At some point Wesley’s parents come over and it is nowhere mentioned Wesley has two dads, so this was quite a surprise for me. I would say with the issue being discussed that Bryce’s parents did not really approve if his bisexuality, how Wesley’s parents thought about it, is an important thing to have mentioned.
And when referred to one of his fathers as his aba, my confusion was complete. There is a whole page of things said like this.
His dad patted him on the back then he rumbled a laugh. “How did I get two of you?” “ Two of who?” Wesley asked. “You and your aba.”
I was totally lost, until Karen was so kind to explain that this is a Jewish word for father. Which would have been nice if this was explained. Now I was just confused for several pages..
This was like cuddling up on a huge, floofy, fur coat. Naked. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought. Kade's books are a go-to comfort read for me, but I didn't have hopes for this little novella. It surprised me though. Sure, it followed the formula it seems this author is a fan of, and it's not exactly plotty, but the characters were so lovable. The writing felt more polished than several other books of his that I've read. I like the voice of the narrator and characters. The snarkiness made me smile. The romance was super sweet but not cheesy, and the sex.. oh good lawd. He's getting better and better at writing smoking hot sexy times. Perfect read for when real life gets too heavy.
A sexy read with the friends-to-lovers trope and no angst.
Bryce and Wesley have been friends for a long time, then adding benefits to the mix until one realizes there are feelings too and the other struggles with the expectations enticed. They are both fun, dependable and so hot for each other !!
Yes it was a little sweet and sugary but still a nice treat! Adorable best friends, part time lovers to full time lovers story. Both are bisexual and got together after Wes broke up with Bryce's former girlfriend in college. Thus, the exes! They've been there for each other for years and Wes is the first to admit that he wants more. They both have to figure out how to move forward if they're to become more, or become exes for real.
It's a low-key story with little angst and no drama. But it had its serious moments and one of my favorite things to see, characters that ultimately talk to each other. There's no secrets festering in silence. There's great characterization, done perfectly for the length of the story. Of course, Kade also brings the smokin' hot sex scenes! Kudos for for this wonderful book.
That was nice and cute and sweet. And Wes and Bryce are good guys. And their story was enjoyable. And normal. And ok. Darn. Am I turning into an angst-junkie? Is there something wrong with me? These two guys are totally alright- NO, better than alright.
But ... their story just didn't grab me by the proverbial balls. I had no hot flushes, had no need of wine or chocolate, the tissue box remained closed, but I also had no budding feelings of happiness, or overwhelming joy of seeing two guys finding each other... sigh. Basically I could not feel Wes and Bryce enough. (And the stress is on 'enough')
3 1/2 stars Entertaining and sexy short read. A best-friends to best-friends-with-benefits to lovers-in-a-committed-relationship story I liked how these two were so perfect for each other. I loved how they talked about their feelings and what was upsetting them so they could make their relationship grow. And the sexy times were hot! I recommend for when you need a couple of hours free of drama with a book and a glass of vino. Cheers!
Short, sweet and low angst friends with benefits to relationship.... about sums this up. It's Kade Boehme so the sex is hot per usual. Reading this was a nice way to spend a few hours but it's not one that will stick with me forever, if that makes sense.
A light and fluffy amuse bouche that will work well for others but bored me. There is nothing particularly wrong with this story, but I felt like I've read it many times before.
I enjoyed this (despite of some part that need more editing). Kade's obviously in his ovulating period when he wrote the sex scenes! Damn, man! Keep up the good work!
I loved how easily Bryce and Wesley fit into their relationship. No angst, no need a brainer to read this. Just like Kade said earlier before this came out. It's light, no angst and sweet. Well done Kade, we need this from you from time to time!
4.25 stars I loved Wesley and Bryce so much. This is a perfect friends to lovers story, with plenty of heat, low angst and a great HEA. My only real complaint is it needs to be longer. There is so much more that can written in to this story, but either way definitely recommend.
A really sweet read - low angst, warmth and all things happy ❤I liked the fact that Bryce & Wes had an expectation on truth and speaking honestly, "no macho bullshit" and this in turn lead to a major change in their friendship and relationship. Easy and enjoyable
Exes is a light, but touching friends to lovers romance. I was waiting for the angst and heartache, which is what Kade normally puts me through in his works, but Bryce and Wesley surprised me and I was instantly pulling for these two.
Best friends since college, Bryce and Wesley have been there for each other through everything. They've reached the point where they must decide if they should move on with their lives or take a huge step and acknowledge that what they feel for each other is worth fighting for.
This novella is packed full of a genuine friendship, romance and sexy times. I cannot recommend enough!
I received a copy and was happy to give an honest review.
Anyone who followed the author's promo about this book saw that he told us this was a short, fluffy, sexy tale and that is exactly what Exes is. There's only a tiny undercurrent of angst at times, a really perfect balance.
I adore friends to lovers a great deal. Whether it's a dark path to the light of a pretty great happy one all the way through-which Exes is.
Bryce and Wesley are truly the best of friends. Opposites in many ways but similar in others. They communicate well... most of the time. They are established in their ways and I love that. There's not enough stories about building relationships on already sturdy foundations.
I also loved that they are friends with their exes. Like they go out with them, as a group. And they all pretty much dated each other. Makes me wonder if I had stayed friends with my exes would my life be way more different than it is now.
Exes is a quick read that is very entertaining and fun. A sweet romance.
There's one thing Kade Boehm throws out there when you start one of his books: You ain't seen many, if any, plot twists or characters like his. In this case, Wesley and Bryce stand out as best friends who have had sexual relationships with several of their intimate (well, can't think of better word) friends, male and female.
Neither of them gives much thought to how their personas have been affected by the fact that they are also occasional ****-buddies--the one glaring eyebrow raiser I didn't quite get over as I made my way along their path to realizing they could have so much more.
However, both of them are so down to earth and sweet natured that it did not come as too much of a shock to either when they realized they were really in love, from the start or had fallen in love along the way. Whatever. Just a sweet, non-threatening, sometimes off-the-wall tale with a good batch of surrogates and a wonderful ending.
But, NO BOOK has ever made me grin the ENTIRE time reading it. Yeah, I was grinning like a loon the whole time.
C'mon! You have to admit you did too! I've read so many Friends-to-lovers books, but I've read nothing with so little angst and so much sweetness ever. Life would be so much simpler if every person with an unrequited crush (which is really not unrequited) on their best friend got to have such an ending.
As Wesley said, I almost got a sugar coma with the amount of sweetness.
I'm not complaining though. After reading a book about drug addiction, this sweet read was just what I needed and the perfect antidote.
And kudos to the author Kade for writing a sweet book like this. Seriously, this book is just sweetness personified.
I'm looking forward to checking out more of this author's works. Peace.
P.S. The editing? It was crap. Sorry. I can't sugar coat it coz yes, it was crap. In the first scene the MCs' BFF Dabney has a husband named Jason. And in the epilogue there's a wife named Ana? Like c'mon! Plot holes anyone? Not just that but a lot of spelling errors and mistakes too! I'm not gonna point them out. It just brought down this book from a 5 to 4 stars. And no, I'm not a grammar Nazi. But some things just can't be pushed under the rug.
So sweet and no angst - the perfect kind of fluffy I need a dose of on a regular basis. Wes and Bryce have been best friends for years. The kind that not only hang out but also regularly share a bed. They dance around each other both afraid to admit they've reached the point where they want more. Luckily these guys talk and, of course, end up with the perfect HEA.
I have to spend a few words on the editing. It started out fine, but I had the feeling the editor fell asleep half way through. Example: "Wesley went out and found Wesley standing with one hand on his truck.." - there are 4 words between the two names. How does no one catch that? Annoying, yes, but not enough to completely ruin the story.
Fun enjoyable sweet storey. Not a lot of angst and the boys really opened up and communicated well with each other - growing into a wonderful couple with a real relationship.
