Pre-Earth: You have to know

When a mysterious object—spotted by the team of the International Space Station (ISS)—crash-lands in a remote part of Canada, the joint US-Canadian team assigned to investigate it makes the initial assumption that the object they have retrieved is a drone of alien origin. However, a dramatic turn of events occurs when an astronaut emerges from the spacecraft a few days later and initial communication with him begins. In a series of breathtaking events, the astronaut reveals that he has the mission to reveal the truth about the history of the planet and to prepare humanity for a new role in the Universe. However, before it can take on this role, humanity must first prepare to deal with a pending natural catastrophe. The means to do this have been installed on Earth millions of years ago, but humanity has since lost all knowledge of this tool. The astronaut's story paves the way for humanity's efforts to survive what is coming and to accept its new destiny.

This book will keep you enthralled from start to finish. The science is believable and the way it explains some historical myths and legends fits nicely into the ending.

This was a new author for me and I hope he brings out a sequel. The story could stand alone but there was enough going on at the end to merit a follow up. A first class novel!

Bad. Really bad. Nice idea, very poorly executed. Badly written. One redeeming feature was its short length.

This started reasonably well but very quickly the lack of women characters let this book down and dated it. Any woman who appeared was merely a cipher in the background., usually unnamed.. Had it been written in the 1960s Ranson might have gotten away with this gross omission.

The plot went downhill, trawling the depths of crackpot and conspiracy theorist websites, found myself laughing out loud at some of the dialogue and "history". Finally, the novel rushed to a conclusion. Left me feeling that I had lost some hours of my life reading the equivalent of a B movie written by a hippie.

Won't be reading any more of Ranson''s novels.

A lost earth and a new future

An interesting read that started well but became repetitive and tiresome with 'explanations' of recorded history or events being offered in lieu of a narrative. The disdainful treatment of religious thought and actions were poorly organised and badly written

Flimsy

The plot seems to be the author's excuse to discredit God. The thread of the book was at times bordering on the kind of lecture that would send you to sleep. I read on, in the hope of excitement or challenge, none came. The ending was disappointing.
Try harder next time!
