CARNACKI operates in shadowy occult realms, on the fringes, in places out of sight and out of mind of normal ever yday people. But sometimes the darkness touches the lives of these ordinary folks, and they find they need help - the kind of help that only Carnacki can provide. In MR. CHURCHILL'S DILEMMA and THE WATCHER AT THE GATE : Carnacki is called on to help a young Winston Churchill in defeating a menace from the east that threatens hostilities in the years before WW1, and in overseeing an experiment that threatens to expose the whole of South East England to an entity from the Outer Darkness. In CAPTAIN GAULT'S NEMESIS, THE BLUE EGG and THE GRAY BOATS, Carnacki aids another Hodgson character, the aforesaid Captain, in ridding his vessel of an ancient cursed box, in the procurement of a great Arabian gem, and in the salvage of a nautical government experiment gone disastrously wrong.

Another Carnacki book by William Meikle. This one is The Watcher at the Gate. It is a very interesting and a very worthy book to read.
No betrayals of the feet. Just follow the steps of this guide to find the singing and dancing, and any thing else that is in the book. We are all going to learn from this book that you can do this with your own energy.
You may want to try to find the easy way out by reading the lyrics and singing the songs you have seen. But dancing the dance is not as difficult as you might’ve imagined. It will take just one minute to get yourself ready for the emotional event.
There are several books where the title has a color like The Gray Boat, The Black Swan, Bedlam in Yellow and The Blue Egg. These are written by Meikle as a worthy story. Just filled with enough spookiness to give you the creeps. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as l have. Just take a look at them and you shall see.
This is copy 52 of 100 signed numbered hardcover copies. Signed by William Meikle.

Solid collection of Carnacki tales , Meikle really catches the flavor of Hodgson's intrepid ghost hunter. If you run RPGs you will find any great ideas to insert into a campaign or for a fun one shot. Check it out.
These short stories are written in the spirit of the William Hope Hodgson collection; an author who has influenced H.P. Lovecraft as well as Terry Pratchett. Entertaining collection of horror mixed with science fiction--I think fans of Charles Stross would also enjoy these books. The China Doll story will have you creeped out by dolls if you are not already.
This is the second or third book by William Meikle that I have read, and I'm becoming more and more impressed. I'm fond of occult detectives and stories set in the Victorian and Edwardian era, and this doesn't disappoint. It is good atmospheric stuff and wonderful entertainment. I hear that Meikle has also written more Carnacki adventures, as well as Holmes and Professor Challenger books. I'll get around to them.
Meikle is perhaps the best a writing Carnacki stories in the style of William Hope Hodgson. He is an entertaining writer and most of these stories are quite good. He dwells less on the technology of the magic defenses and perhaps that is good as it might have bogged down the stories, although an occasional story with a little more detail might have been good.
Seems to me that Meikle manages to capture all the atmosphere and flavour of Hodgson's original Carnacki stories while simultaneously making them that little bit pacier to suit the modern reader. Whatever he's done and however he's done it, it works for me!
