This is going to be a short review – these books are always that long. If they are, it's usually because it's a pinnacle book. This was less a pinnacle and more of a hey-watch-this-space-because-things-are-about-to-go-to-hell (which is a heap more hilarious if you've read the whole series) so yeah, short review!
Xenon and Dorean are cute as. When I first read this, I didn't get it – mostly because I was kind of like Abel when it came to Dorean, accepting but really annoyed that he was so happy all the time? (Though I think I may have been annoyed more that he was happy at being a slave) Obviously, I've changed my tune – Dorean is actually not that bad and I really love where he's gotten to now and how Xenon has helped him get there.
I also remember now why I started kind of liking Blaine and Cerberus again – the development of the two in this book really showcased how vulnerable even the strongest guardian of the Underworld can be. And yeah, I just think that even though they started out really really bad that they do deserve their chance.
the thing about Aftermath: compared to its pre- and sequels, the action, the plot, the characters, doesn’t stand out as much. but i love zenon, i love dorean, that much is obvious.
