She felt herself aching for more… Amy has kept her distance from men after her sleazy ex took everything from her—everything but her daughter, Paisley, whom Amy would do anything to protect. She’s learned to keep her guard up, but it’s getting harder and harder to do around a man like Mike, whose penetrating gaze leaves her speechless. Mike is unlike any man Amy has ever met. He’s patient, kind, a loving father, ripped, and, amazingly, seeming way into her. Still, Amy makes it clear that she has no intention of the two of them being more than friends. But when threats from her past put Paisley in danger, Amy finds that more with Mike just might save her life…and her heart.
Sierra Kincade lives in the Midwest with her husband and son. When she’s not writing naughty books, she loves eating chocolate cupcakes, binge-watching cable series, and singing loudly in the car. She wholeheartedly believes that love stories are real, and you should never choose a partner who doesn't make you laugh.
A few of Sierra’s favorite things:
Bad boys with dirty mouths – English Breakfast tea with two packets of Sugar in the Raw – any movie or show with a choreographed dance routine – cinnamon toast – kids who say funny things – friends who raid her pantry without asking – bootleg jeans – making lists – old Garth Brooks songs – and of course, massages.
When I finished book three in the Body Works Trilogy I was sad to see the end of a fantastic series by Sierra Kincade so when I heard there was going to be another book and it was going to be focused on Amy and Mike…Of course I was super excited! If you don’t recall, Amy is Anna’s best friend and Mike is Alec’s closest friend and they have shown up in the other books off and on. I was always interested in Amy as a character as it was clear she had a good story. Plus she and Mike have amazing chemistry and I really wanted more of these two together.
Because of the danger they were in with the Maxim Stein trial, Amy and her daughter ended up moving in with Mike…and even though the mess with Stein is over, she hasn’t made much of an effort to move out. Part of it is her attraction to Mike but the other part is Paisley, her daughter. She and Chloe (Mike’s daughter) have gotten really close and Amy doesn’t want to do anything to negatively impact her as Paisley has had a hard enough time as it is.
Amy has tried to keep her distance from men since the mess with her ex-husband but because of everything that has happened with Anna and Alec, she can’t avoid Mike and to be honest, she doesn’t really want to. She and Mike are in a place where they kind of float around each other but don’t get to spend much time alone with one another.
As the story opens, Amy is immediately faced with her past in the form of her ex-husband Danny. He needs money and wants her to “loan” him some. This is just the beginning of some unexpected things happening to Amy. Amy also has some baggage and it tends to get in the way of the feelings she has for Mike. Danny was a selfish husband and said some things to Amy that stick with her to this day. It isn’t easy for her to see the good things about her and that is what makes it difficult for her to understand why Mike would be even remotely interested in her.
Mike obviously has a history too and it has shaped who he is as a father and a man. I have to say, Mike is a swoony guy. Because of his history, he is pretty protective of the people he cares about and that group now includes Amy and Paisley. He really likes Amy and he is willing to go slow with her but he isn’t one to back off from what he wants. Like Amy says “He has an answer for everything.” and he wants Amy to give him a chance so he does everything he can to remove the barriers she tries to put between them.
As I mentioned earlier, some things start happening to Amy that have her wondering what is really going on. First there is money missing from her account, Paisley starts acting a bit off, and on the night of Anna’s bachelorette party, some guys corner her in an alley because they are looking for Danny. I won’t say a lot here but if you know anything about Amy’s ex, you know he is at the center of most of her problems. While these things had the potential to pull Amy and Mike apart, they actually helped them both realize that they need each other and not just because they care about each other’s daughters. I think one of my favorite parts of this book was seeing how the relationship with Mike changed how Amy saw herself. She still had doubts about herself but she also realized she was more than what Danny saw in her. Add to that the fact that Mike finally opened up to her and it was clear to me they both made an impact on each other.
There is so much I loved about this book I can’t talk about everything or this will just be me rambling. If you haven’t read the first 3 books in this series, go get them now and then you can read everything back to back. If you love stories that have romance, hot and swoony men, and enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, you will enjoy these books. Plus…extra bonus. Even though this book was all about Amy and Mike, we still got to see more of Anna and Alec which made me happy.
She and her daughter moved in with him for safety. Months later theyve comfortable and the girls are like sisters. When she doubts her comfort he decides to make a move. Brief moment where he doesnt want to hey married again but hes good. She also leaves for a day to protect the girls and him but shes good too
I’ve read this whole series and couldn’t put them down! I very much enjoyed the sweet patient romance in this book. Mike is so tender and patient with Amy (who has been abused). His steadfast love for Amy and her little girl will melt your heart. I definitely liked reading how Amy became empowered and stronger as she worked to face her demons of being abused and her self-defense skills! All 4 books are well worth the read!
Do you have any idea how excited I was when I found out that Sierra Kincade was going to continue her Body Works trilogy so that Mike and Amy's story (which had been hinted at in the original trilogy) was going to finally be told?
And their story was absolutely everything I needed it to be. When the book opens, Amy and her young daughter Paisley are still living in Mike's house with him and his young daughter Chloe, even though the events and the danger that landed them there have passed. The girls love being near each other, and Amy has become comfortable with the living situation. But, the constant sexual chemistry between Mike and her are stressing her out, and Amy's considering moving back to her own place.
I get why Amy is hesitant to start a relationship with Mike. He, of all people, would be the most dangerous to her. Because if things didn't work out, it wouldn't be only Amy's heart that would take the beating, but her daughter would feel the effects too. And Mike is more than just her roommate. He's her best friend next to Anna. There's a lot at stake, and Amy's not too trusting when it comes to relationships after her last two have been not only disastrous, but dangerously violent. They've not only literally beaten her down, but they've also squashed her self-esteem and Mike seems determined to help her find it again.
Life was hard, and frightening, and sometimes cruel, but she'd endured. And for the first time in a long time, she didn't consider whether or not she was worthy of him. She considered whether he was worthy of her. And he was.
When Sierra Kincade described Mike, I had this picture in my head of Luke Cage. Talk about hotness on a stick. And on top of that, he's smart (he's going to law school), he's brave and he's good with his hands. Like, REALLY good. Not only that, but he's an amazing dad. And let's face it - that's one of the sexiest parts about him. He's determined to prove to Amy that he is nothing like the last two losers she's involved herself with. It's an uphill battle, but he's patient and focused.
I loved Mike in the first three books because he's a really good friend to Alec and has proven to be loyal. But, in More, my feelings for him moved way beyond love. Seriously, this guy is damn near perfect. But, he has just enough tarnish - because of his former wife - to make him real. And, even though he doesn't show it well, he's carrying some baggage that might threaten the good thing he and Amy could have.
Sierra Kincade does many things well, but creating realistic suspenseful situations that cause our characters to reach inward for strength they didn't know they had - that's her specialty. Although it's not as dark and dangerous as what happened to Anna and Alec, Amy still manages to find herself in some trouble, which is a different sort of tension altogether from what she feels with Mike.
Speaking of Anna and Alec, they show up, and prove to be the best babysitters EVER. Alec having a tea party with a bunch of little princesses is just as swoon-worthy as Mike putting the little girls to bed. Seriously - guard your ovaries, ladies. They're in danger of combusting while you read More.
Amy and Mike's story needed to be told. It wasn't always easy for them, especially given the two precious children in their lives. But, it was SO worth all the trials that they both went through to get to the other side.
Although More is a standalone, it is part of The Body Works trilogy. I haven't read any of the other books in the trilogy, but it wasn't an issue. Everything a reader needed to know about Amy's past was worked into the narrative of this story. More is a slow starter. So much so that I'm afraid I would have put it aside had I not agreed to write this review. I'm glad I stuck with it. The suspense built ever so slowly until it nearly exploded at the end.
The romance crept slowly forward as well. Amy and Mike were nearly teenagers with their slow re-discovery of love making. I didn't know whether I should remind them that they have children and surely know how to get it on or just giggle at their slow progress. In the end, it was just what the characters needed to repair the wounds in their hearts.
I didn't connect with Amy much. She's into all the things I couldn't care less about: hair and fashion. Normally, I get annoyed when writers take up time to describe outfits in detail. I'll give Kincade a pass, though, as Amy's outfits were an essential part of her personality. Now, Mike, Mike I'd love to connect with. He almost seemed too good to be true. Almost. He shows he's a real person, though, with flaws and all, which just made me fall for the man even more.
There were a few comical moments (porn, anyone?) that made me giggle. I would have loved to see more of these funny happenings.
Although More was a bit slow and somewhat on the too many pages’ side for my liking, I did enjoy the story and I'm glad I stuck with it.
