The family saga continues in this sixth book to Davenport House. It is 1919 when America begins to heal from the Great War and take her first steps into a roaring new Era.
The residents of Davenport House are changing with the times as new fashions and new laws are introduced. Clara turns a blind eye to her troubles at home and plans a grand masquerade ball for the county. Bridget uncovers a distressing truth and returns to the house to warn the others, but soon finds that she is no longer welcome there.
When a suspicious death occurs on the estate, the abundance of motives and sudden hushed lips cause tensions to rise throughout the house. Only the painful truth can set everyone free, but it will come at a price to reveal the house secrets once and for all.

House Secrets is the sixth and final book in Davenport House series. I loved the first five books and was really looking forward to this one, even though I was a little sad to see the series end. Fortunately, a prequel will soon be available, which means another chance to meet all the wonderful characters I have come to care about. Having followed the characters from book one, it was fascinating to see how they developed and grew throughout the series.
Book 6 was fast-paced, and just like the previous five books, I found it difficult to put down. More dark secrets haunt the inhabitants of Davenport House but in the end all works out for the best. The happy endings of these books never fail to put a smile on my face. Just like the previous books, book 6 is as much about the servants as the ladies of the house. The book is well-researched and filled with fascinating period detail.
I look forward to the prequel and finding out the backstory of the characters. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys well written historical fiction with strong and believable characters that keep you reading late into the night.
This book wasn't as good as the previous book in the series, but I still enjoyed it. To me, the shocking parts didn't seem nearly as shocking, and were easy to predict. Clara also annoyed me in the beginning of this book, due to some poor choices that she made. It was frustrating to watch her go through them when the correct answer was obviously right in front of her face. I was incredibly happy with a certain character death in this though. I can't wait to listen to the last book, and see where the series goes from there.
Very well-written. Descriptive characters with plenty of hints dropped here and there to pull the story along and tie the plot together. Having not read any of the other books in the series yet, it took me a bit to get caught up. It could be a stand alone book, but I am anxious to read the previous books in order now. I love that good triumphs evil and is tastefully written without the use of foul language or overt sex which in my opinion is a cheap filler. This author doesn't need to use any of those tactics because she writes very well on her own. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Having not read the first 5 books in the series, I felt a little behind as I started the book, but was brought up to speed quickly. While this book can definitely be read as a stand-alone, it alludes to previous events in such a way that makes me want to pick up the rest of the series as soon as possible. Aside from having a bit too much dialogue between characters for my personal taste, the story-telling and mystery is fun and addictive.
awesome series you can't put down. highly recommended. I have to go buy number 7. now. You can't read the first without immediately the next when you reach the end of each book. Five Stars to the author.
You can't read the first book without immediately buying the next. Wonderful series you can t put down. 5 stars to the author.
Another good book. This one pulled at my heart strings this book series hits a little too close to home with this pandemic going on. Time does repeat itself there is some facts in here about some different era pandemics. Truly a good read i was laughing, crying, and totally ticked off at points. At least this time i didnt throw my kindle. That is always a plus.
Each book kept my interest and I loved the male and female characters in how they interact with each other. Can't wait to get the 7th book. The era has a lot of informational history on issues if that time..
This audio book was a promotion. I give my free will opinion. I very much enjoyed this story. I was thoroughly interested in the plot. I recommend this novel. I have previously enjoyed listing to the 1-5 of the story. I recommend them also. I can't wait to listen to book 7.
This is a great series! It always leaves you wanting more.I want more!lol Allyson Voller was the perfect narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
I have loved books 1-5. Book 6 is lacking something. The major characters are all back. Perhaps we now see all their faults. There is no character that grows. They remain the same, no.surprises, even the murder was a yawn. Who cared the person was dead and if any of the major characters had killed him, they would probably be rewarded. The new characters introduced weren't intriguing. I see the next book will be a prequel. Why? We have already been told what will happen and how. Perhaps the author has tired of the characters. If so finish the story and the characters. I found it a disappointment.
This series should have been presented as one book rather than multiple books of such short length (less than 200 pages each). The writing style seemed to be stilted in that there were many abrupt changes in scenarios that caused me to feel like I was changing tv channels and receiving dialogue from different shows. I cannot recommend this series and wouldn't have read it through if I wasn't a member of Kindle Unlimited.
I am so happy that I got to read this last marvelous novel.
This last book brought all the stories together and made them complete. I am kind of sorry they are all finished. The author has weaved a story that keeps you on your toes and Interested. I can't wait to read her next offering.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. Without giving away the story line, one man is brought into the house, and life is changed for almost all it's inhabitants. Together with war and the Spanish flue, it's a time of emotional turmoil, with the added friction of those out for their own gains. Yes it is a tremulous times in the house
I have read six books in this series. Enjoyable, clean and easy reading. Although dialogs between characters are somewhat simplistic, once I got used to it it was kind of refreshing!
