Fiction becomes reality for the survivors from the first two books after they’re hired as consultants on a reality show hosted by an infamous animal wrangler.
Promised security and professionalism, they instead encounter a low-budget shoot in a remote location that seeks to capitalize on their survival story.
Trapped on set after a freak ice storm, they discover to their horror that something in the hills has their scent, something that’s large and hungry and picking off the cast and crew one by one.
The third book in the Razorback series is every bit as much of an adrenaline rush as the first and the second were. I really enjoyed the story within the story and the angle of a film production crew making a reality series about the ordeals Avery and Peter survived. There was some good humor, some surprisingly deep thinking, and some just desserts.
The horror of being eaten alive has to rank among the most primal fears, and Mahaffey writes like a true storyteller, making the action and characters become vivid and real. Ordinary feral hogs are a serious threat in certain locations here in Texas. The meddling hands of Big Pharma, monkeying around with the basic blueprint of life with no knowledge of the side effects their tweaks may have, is also a real thing. I love this series!
U was Scottish that or heroes would be add interesting in the third book as they were in the first but I was not disappointed and was again riveted until the end.
A worthy successor to the first two books. There were a lot of editorial errors that really should have been caught. They were pretty distracting and took me away from the action of the story. Waiting to find out what happens to Snowball.
