In one universe, humanity conquers the stars. In another universe, humanity is overrun by monsters so evil that their very presence dims the light of the stars. In yet another universe, humanity is drawn into an endless battle for dominion over the galaxy.
This is not one of those universes.
In this universe, humanity is in charge of the Galactic Peace Committee. In theory, the Committee is an unmatched force for good, bringing peace and prosperity to countless worlds and ensuring that conflicts between different races are settled with words and not planet-cracking weaponry or super plagues designed to turn everyone into goo.
In theory.
Jake Smith is a diplomat. He works for the Committee. This is his story – and it goes about as well as you’d expect. In other words, it doesn’t go very well at all. Can Jake survive petty aliens? Sure. He’s a diplomat. It’s all part of the job. What about angry aliens? Probably. He does have a killer robot for a secretary, and he’s not bad with a shock staff. How about a fleet of aliens out for blood? That… that might be a little bit trickier.
The Galactic Peace Committee… keeping peace (sort of) throughout the galaxy.
I'm a reader and writer with a keen interest in psychology, history, physics, and economics. I'm especially interested in the intersection of these different areas (e.g., the psychology behind the sub-prime mortgage collapse).
In terms of fiction, I enjoy reading horror, fantasy, science fiction, Westerns, and thrillers. I believe that every genre has its good points, and I want to be able to incorporate all of these strengths into my own writing.
I currently live in Australia. When I'm not writing, I'm busy trying to fend off all of the deadly wildlife.
If you're interested in my fiction, you can find it on Amazon here.
I loved this story from start to finish. As short as it was it packed in a lot of action and laughs. If you ever wondered if someone out there can possibly have a worse job than you, then you need to meet poor Jake. The side characters are just as entertaining, even if bickering aliens remind me too much of actual politicians these days. This was very well written, and I am now a fan of L.G. Estella and can't wait to read more from this author.
It's light reading, a couple hours. I enjoyed it. I liked the characters, just ordinary folk? Well Jake and his boss are human, his assistant is a gorgeous killer robot and his roommate a six foot long lizard. But he does save the space station and every one on it when they're attacked by one of the most vicious species in the universe.
This is billed as a short, fun sci-fi read and that's what it is. Funny and quick, if not overly sophisticated - it's an enjoyable book with potential.
This is the first book of this series I've read and I'll certainly read more. In fact, I read the short story/novella-sized fiction in one sitting.
It has LG Estrella's characteristic humor but is set in a pan-galactic, sci-fi setting, complete with cuddly alien teddy bears who can destroy your planet and solar system, and tentacled creatures who consider eating their opponents acceptable negotiating tactics.
Estrella's main character is a desperate man who joins the Galactic Peace committee to escape a boring life. He succeeds but concludes his new life isn't an improvement.
There's a fine line between diplomacy and being brutally slaughtered by a transforming, giant, armoured bunny rabbit.
Jake is a diplomat on a space station and must settle arguments between various weird alien beings. Hey! It's just like when I go down the pub for a beer...well not quite.
I loved this story for the funny plot, the brevity and the lack of typos. I suppose I should read more of this bloke's stuff, especially since he's an Aussie. Well he lives here, but may not have been born here. That doesn't matter though 'cos he hasn't been eaten by a croc yet, so that makes him an honorary citizen anyway.
A nice and quite entertaining read. Quirky characters that might lack a certain depth, but then again, it is only a short novella. All in all, nothing special, but enjoyable nonetheless.
It's a good read, although short. As a 1st installment it sets up his cronies and gives some context to his life and job. Good setup now drive it home.
Short, fun, humorous, and very creative! I loved the introduction to the main character and the aliens he interacts with. LG Estrella does a great job balancing the absurd with the plot. It's cheesy but never feels too cheesy? Currently reading the next one!
This story was very funny. This would make a great series. I couldn't stop laughing at the last chapter of the book. The R'bit was cute, runny, and scary.
