Borderland

In the spare bedroom of a house perched on the side of the Wairoa River, just outside the small northland town of Dargaville, Uncle Silo hides an ancient secret. An insidious force in the form of a tentacled shadow-creature and guided by the mysterious Master, has imprisoned two young children within a painted mural. When young Rosie discovers the true nature of the painting the sinister forces within threaten to overwhelm her.

I got this for free at work, since the New Zealand list is moving. It was an ok read, a bit formulaic and a tad boring. Perhaps teen sci-fi is not quite my genre...
