Rate this book
The battle for Earth begins with a secret invasion… They came from the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina. First they studied us. Now they’re among us, threatening human existence as they search for the Starcore, the greatest device of the lost Polarions. Logan is captured in the Nevada desert, but escapes in Greenland. There he finds an extraterrestrial stealth ship, giving him the means to take the battle to the enemy. He will fight the aliens underground. He will fight them in the sky, and he will fight them in space. He will never surrender. Logan becomes a one-man wrecking crew while using alien technology better than any being alive.

I was born in Canada and remember as a small boy crawling in my snow-fort. I closed my eyes, and when I tried to open them, they were frozen shut. I didn't panic, but wiped away the ice crystals, unglued my eyes and kept on building my tunnel. Those were great days! I moved to Central California before seventh grade and couldn't believe I lived in a land where oranges grew on trees and you could pick grapes from the vine.

I used to wonder what I wanted to do with my life, what kind of work specifically. I was miserable not knowing and bordering on desperate. Then one day a friend gave me his typewriter. I began working on a novel. A different person told me it was much easier on a computer, so I bought one and began getting up at 4:30 A.M. each morning before work, writing for three hours. My eyes were unglued once again as the pang of misery left my gut. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: write. So now that's what I do, I write, and write, and write, and I love it.

Misses the mark!

This book is fine, if you are 12. The whole concept and all the plots and subplots are very juvenile. The action scenes are iffy at best and far to many convenient things happen in just the nick of time. The aliens are not convincing and have the mentality of third graders. Nothing against them. The only reason I finished it, is because I always do and was hoping it would get better. It didn't. I will not be reading any other books in this series.

I’ve enjoyed the author’s other series, and I really tried to like this one – I had to quit this first installment of a new series at the 86% mark on my Kindle as this one was too over the top on the main character always finding something to save the day, but what I found to be highly annoying was the incessant and immature dialogue between the main character and the artificial intelligence. Luckily, I picked this up for free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription or I would have felt robbed paying the $3.99 price.

If you have enjoyed the author’s other series, I would highly recommend you give this one a pass.

Fast paced and entertaining

I enjoyed the book. The one good guy against the universe theme. He saves the Earth and he gets the girl. I'm definitely reading the next book.

* SPOILER ALERT *

I would have given this just two stars if it wasn't for its sheer likeability. Heppner mashes up a great deal of old American popular science fiction for nothing but entertainment, making it ideal for recovering from (say) an illness where you don't want to think too much.

The gung-ho hero (an ex-marine called Logan but aren't they all?) with his 'guardian of the galaxy' blue crystal in his pocket give us lots of fun dialogue with his little AI friend even if there are moments of lengthy exposition necessary to get the story from fire fight to fire fight.

There is a Flash Gordon-Dale Arden aspect with 'Debbie'. Our hero has the moral fibre of men more than half a century ago, trusting in his girl even when the evidence repeatedly points to her being a creature of alien forces. This is pre-feminist stuff but not the worse for that.

And Heppner does not stint on aliens - in addition to the blue crystal, the staff officer to Logan's man in the field, we have mercenary corporate aliens, an alien crystal intelligence gone rogue and about to become God and a lost race of arrogant super-aliens who may as well be gods.

Space ships fly through oceans and space piloted by someone who was a security officer for a solar energy plant in the Nevada desert only a day or so before while alien weaponry pummels the earth yet somehow is not noticed to be alien!

And our man Logan defeats all the bad aliens as well as their Neanderthal minions (allowing a nod to alternative evolutionary history straight out of the mind-set of the 1920s)! There is even a 'Twilight Zone' episode centred on a town of mind-slaves and robots lost in time.

Logan saves the universe and the earth and stops a nuclear confrontation between the US and China while remaining the supreme patriot to his country. Yes, a total throw-back to the adolescent scifi of the last mid-century and utter and absolute nonsense. But fun in its way.

I am a massive fan of the Lost Starship and The A.I. series. This book...this book however was written by a completely different author. An author I can only assume has never interacted with another person.

There are '4' groups of characters. Humans, for whom there is a protagonist that can get out of every situation in the most fantastical of means and has the most plot armor of any character in existence. There is a 'good' alien who will raze the solar system to kill the bad super computer. There is the bad super computer. And, a group of 'bad' mercenaries who will destroy earth in order to get the super computer and other ancient technology.

When asked [should I destroy the mercenaries which will cripple the super computer and prevent the destruction of the solar system?], the protagonist response [No. I need to save the first girl I slept with since my divorce. Even though she is being controlled by aliens, we have something going. I don't have a plan to rescue her, but I am going to do it because I am just way to lucky.]. This is the depth of thinking of all characters throughout the book.

I seldom stop reading books, either due to sunk cost fallacy or just not hating the book enough to quit. But this one....Invaders is one of the few books that I just quit because it is too dumb to continue with. I wish I could give this book zero stars; one is still too many. I wish when I picked this up, someone had kicked me in the junk, told me the kick to the nards hurts less than reading the dribble that is Invaders, put the book back on the shelf, and then kicked me again. That would have sucked for like 20 minutes; this book has sucked for several hours.

Logan, head of security for a massive solar power generation facility in the Nevada desert, stumbles on a group of aliens trying to patch up damaged artificial intelligence crystal. He is captured by another group of aliens, transported to their base in Greenland. After "befriending" a small AI crystal which he names Raz, Logan escapes and finds himself back in Nevada. There are numerous times when the pair escapes by the skin of their teeth, as they struggle to save the earth from the wrath of Min Ve and also from the Polarians. There is a lot of action, a sideline love interest, and several loose ends.

Not too sure how I felt about this book. I liked Logan and Rax but the story wasn't so great. I mean Logan was kidnapped by aliens and he proceeded to escape and to stop the earth from being destroyed all by himself. I doubt I'll be going forward with this series. Besides it was really a G-rated book and I'm not interested in G-ratings.

No sex, two kisses and no swearing to speak of. there were so many times that Logan got so pissed off with the AI Rex he should have sworn and didn't. I thought that was kinda silly.

As for the narration: Christian Rummel was barely okay! He has a nice voice but reads without any real emotions.

It took me a few chapters to get into the story but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. There are enough twists and turns in the storyline to keep the reader guessing. While the main characters although a little formulaic are individual enough to keep the reader's interest.
Interaction between Artificial Intelligence and humans is neatly done with the possibility of AI reactions being highly probable.

Also, the idea that Invaders of Earth are not superior in every way i.e. their thinking was something I thought very possible.

Worth while reading because it is a fine example of this genre.

Quality different Logan in action

Lots of weird things happens as you cruise along the pages of this :/b took. Aliens with advanced technology but that as single individuals are easy to kill. A human superhero that takes the fighting against the powerful aliens by himself with j u st a single piece of help, a magic crystal with almost unlimited power.
It's an entertaining reading.

Believable

Vaughn does a great job of making a story believable. He does enough research and puts in enough of the facts to make you think. I would recommend this book to Sci-Fi lovers and beginners to the Sci-Fi genre also. It's a good read and easy to read also. Would've been 5 star but a few spots drag on to long but other than that I loved the whole thing. Thank you Vaughn Heppner.

I really enjoyed this book although because of vision problems I went the audio way. There was good action which was fairly well paced. I can't say I am very knowledgeable about sci-fi so except for its entertainment value I could care less about the tech stuff unless it's obvious. I loved Star Trek and Star Wars and my fav , Battlestar Galactica. I will continue to look forward to and read (listen to) Vaughn Heppner's books.

I picked this up without realising it was vYA but not a good one. Its juvenile dialogue gets annoying the plot was weak & the just in time saved the moment thing got old real quick & the stupidity of thinking a state in the us was socialist. Although the author has used this type of line before. Why do Americans think anything to the left of mussolini is socialist.

Good read

Being retired and having the time to read , I have read most sci-fi worth reading and was by now strapping the bottom of the barrel constantly being disappointed to the point of my even finishing most, so I was pleasantly surprised by this,it kept my interest to the end,and I am looking forward to the next book .

Exciting and Dramatic

While the storyline relies on magic technology at times, it is well crafted enough to tolerate the tech jumps. There are some implications of past actions which go unresolved, but for the most part the narrative is acceptable. Decent character development, a bit of a romance, and one annoying-at-times AI provide an entertaining story.

A good read that includes myriad crisis that must be solved to protect the earth. Not a budding classic but a book, and series, to be read purely for enjoyment. I highly recommend this book, and series.

Not Heppners best but still a good read

Plotting was haphazard and confusing at times. This resulted due to Protagonist facing multiple enemies helped along with a sentient crystal friend. Nevertheless, Mr. Heppner’s writing is electric. I will read rest of series.

Exciting story telling, a bit fantastical but worthy

I liked it. Sort of ex military man thrown into alien invasion scenario which with a bit of suspension, makes a good tale. I am buying the next one in the series. I think that is my best review artifact.

High action sci fi

Plenty of brutal combat. Language not the best. Main character is raging more than not yet manages to reason enough to survive. A novel for fight fans in some ways. But there was lots of imaginative alien action.
