Men like him don't exist in the real world, but they do in Washington. Perfect smile. Perfect manners. Tall, broad and beautiful. The most powerful Senator in DC is seeking the White House. And he wants me to help him get there.
Me. Charlie Carter, sister, daughter, a pseudo-journalist from a small town with limited experience. He's a god among men. Colin McKenna isn't the boy next door--he's the lion ready to slaughter the lamb. I should run, bury myself under the years that have slipped by, but the new whirlwind of opportunity his offer holds entices the prey from her hiding spot.
I give in. And because we're both a little bit broken, we fall, and it's fast and hard and intense. But just as the campaign gets going, things start to fall apart. Someone is intent on breaking us. Not just breaking us up, but destroying our hope for a future. My secrets, his advisers, and the past conspire together, and it seems they'll succeed.
Writer, wife, mother, and gummy bear lover. As a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance, Elizabeth Miller brings readers the perfect combination of heart, humor, and heat in every book.
I don't review books very often at all. I just jump right into my next read. I want to review this book because there is a certain irony of how I came across this book. I subscribe to BookBub where this author offered her most recent book Breach of Contract as a free book where I met the characters of Masie Walker and Jayce Kavanaugh. The characters of Piper Stevens and Caden Lawless were also introduced in Breach of Contract, which led to my reading their story, Sound of Silence where the characters of Charlie Carter McKenna and Mr. President himself Colin McKenna were introduced which then led me to the McKenna Chronicles: The Midnight Series 5 Story Bundle which included the book Only Tonight (Kyle Sommerton's story) and an excerpt from Sound of Silence called Lawless. Whew! So I have been reading basically nothing other than Elizabeth Miller since May 31 and today is July 8. For me, reading only one author so continuously says she is something special. Now down to the book review. The Midnight Series was very well written. The characters were well developed. The author paid great attention to the inner workings of politics when following the campaign of Senator Colin McKenna to the presidency. Charlie Carter's placement within the campaign put her in a perfect position to get to know Senator McKenna intimately. The attraction was there. It was combustible! Colin is an alpha in every sense of the word and Charlie is so enticing. It is no wonder their chemistry lit the pages of this book on fire! The sex scenes were off the charts good. They were a perfect balance of romantic and tender and hot and spicy! I thoroughly enjoyed all of the characters industry these books, even the dastardly ones. The ones you love to hate! Yet, there is so much more to like in this book. So much keeping it real. Adoption, Loss, PTSD, Survivor's Guilt, a wedding in Ireland, an island romance, an Inauguration and babies born. All in these power packed pages! And not to forget, first and foremost the romance! I highly recommend this book and the aforementioned books. Elizabeth Miller is one author I shall read again.
