Once upon a time, an arrogant Thief angered a vengeful God. For over a thousand years, he has been trying to free his lover and himself from a cruel curse – to fall in love in every lifetime, but never to be together. What will be their fate this time?
Amelita Rae took a wrong turn on the internet one day. All the innocent young lass wanted to do was watch funny cat videos, but then she discovered Boy's Love and that was the end of any worthwhile contribution she might have otherwise made to the world.
She now spends most of her time writing filthy smut that she tries to frame with farfetched plots and deranged characters, but don't be fooled by her bullshit people, its all just smut.
A short Dark (fairy tale-ish) romance between an innocent boy and a monster who learns how to care for something beyond himself.
I came to read this at a time when I couldn't finish any book. But from page one I couldn’t put this down.
I would have liked for it to be longer, I think there were quite a lot of things that would have been perfect with longer scenes. I want to know more about the Demon, maybe even read his own book.
I usually am a bad reader of Dark genre... I get all judgmental and start analyzing why things are morally wrong 🙈. I don’t know why that didn’t happened here. There are plenty of shady things here, the MC is definitely a bad person... but I wouldn’t change any of it! It reminded me a lot of Alessandra Hazard’s work. I loved it.
Well, this is completely different to the other books I've read by this author. A fairy tale of sorts. Beware there are horrific events and non-con. But as a fable it was excellent. Heart breaking but with a happy ending.
You wouldn't believe how many feelings and how much of a storyline can be rammed into such short fable. Reading it won't take much of your time, but leave a deep impact.
The backstory is nice and heartbreaking. Their first meeting is so wholesome, kinda. However, i find myself wanting more of the romance. It's a novella, so I don't expect the romance to be top notch.
Am I supposed to feel bad for a rapist? To root for him to have a happy ending? He should've suffered eternally in hell like he was supposed to. The victim shouldn't have suffered. I want to vomit.
I was confused with the first few chapters, as they mirrored each other. The same event happening over and over but each time the two characters were slightly different. This cycle happened every 100 years. This story has a God in it, trying to teach one of it's children.
Hang on in there through the violent parts at the beginning, it is worth it for the outcome.
The author gives you the beginning in the middle. I would have preferred it at the beginning as it introduces their situation and would stop the confusion of the earlier events of the book. When this chapter explains everything you are transported back in time to their past.
When you get to the ending it is incredible.
It really gives you a rollercoaster of emotions, but it just felt disjointed by the order the story played out. I might be a traditionalist but I prefer characters' pasts first, to establish the characters and get you invested in them and second to establish the events.
I found it a little frustrating but the story has some beautiful moments once you get past the violent bits. The violent bits are not something I enjoy to read. Sometimes they are necessary for the story and although perhaps once or twice would have been necessary, this one went overboard in my opinion. It was not a gentle violence it was strong and emotional and very violent. You don't know why it happens at the start hence the confusion.
If you are a fan of the author it is worth the read, but if you are new to yaoi perhaps Bait or Elevator Music from this author would be a better start.
This was sad. Just so sad. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked it, but still it felt so heartbreaking.
It was an interesting plot, and a cruel cruse indeed. Very unexpected and something I couldn’t have guessed. I don’t think the story might be suitable to any reader because of some dark elements and some reproachable conduct from one of the main characters.
The characters weren’t as great as the plot, at least I didn’t liked them as I would expect. The thief felt selfish at some point. Sure, I could felt how heartbroken he was, but before that, I’d found his conduct so reprehensible. The boy was nice, but I don’t think I could really got to know him, and that make a little difficult to make me believe in their love.
It was a very nice story, but I would recommend to be cautious about it because it had some violent scenes that might not be ok for every reader. But if you are fine with that, then I definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for bittersweet stories.
Really loved this. An unusually distant form of storytelling that worked, because we never knew the name of the Thief or the boy. Though dark, it was intriguing and beautiful. I can't wait to read more from this author.
This book was incredibly moving and is the best fairytale I have read in a long time. A classic love story about the true meaning of love. Bonus: Ms. Rae compiled a soundtrack for the book that is available on You Tube.
