Bear Fallout

Rate this book
A woman, wounded. A Bear Shifter, hiding from his past. In a world shattering around them, will their love be able to hold them together?

Dean Ward knew the truth. Everyone else in society always took everything for granted: their technology, their government, and their fellow man. As a Bear Shifter, he knew how fast humans could turn on you, how fast they could blame you. So he left society and decided to prepare for the end he knew was coming. He had everything he needed, but when the nuclear armageddon begins, what good does the truth do you?

Gina Flynnt's world ended, not with a bang but with a low rumble. Fleeing from an empty hospital built to withstand a nuclear blast, she saw thousands of people desperate to escape their doom. Barely escaping with her life, she watches as her car careens off a mountain road before losing consciousness. Little did she know her ordeal was only just beginning.

This novel is steamy, packed with action and won't let you go! Also included are some free bonus stories as my thanks to you.

Received a copy of this book from AudioBook Boom in return for an honest review.

First let me say that I probable would have enjoyed this one more if I had read it instead of listening to audio. The audio was off, with narrations coming across whinny at times. That combined with narrators poor since of timing and the annoying sound between chapters made this story really hard to get into.

In this Post Apocalyptic Romance, our two MC's, Dean a grizzly bear shifter and Gina a human doctor, have learn to rely on each other to overcome major challenges and survive. Neither character is perfect, Dean is gruff and does not talk much and Gina can come across as TSTL at times but it seems work well in this story. You have plenty of action, drama, and sexy times is this one. Overall it was an okay story of two people who might never have met under normal situations coming together and falling in love with trying to survive an end of world scenario.

Reviewed at Haunted Bookshelf

Dean had lived in his bunker hidden within the mountain full time for the past two years – of his own choosing, of necessity. His grandfather had been a survivalist and their bunker was well designed and stocked for the end of the world. Alone now, Dean knew that day would arrive, human nature being what it is. He simply didn’t expect it to be from stupidity. Or to have to share that bunker with a woman and her dog.

On that fateful day, Gina had been deep in the basement of the hospital in the old fallout shelter that had been turned into a morgue. The Fourth of July Holiday was in full force… but those explosions didn’t sound like fireworks. As more explosions began to rock the building and took out the lights, Gina made her way to the upper floors having no idea of what was truly happening. She soon discovered chaos and drove frantically home to collect her dog Petey and figure out what to do next. What she saw made no sense, but her town, her neighborhood were on fire. She rushed home, stocked her car with what she felt was needed to survive and left town heading… who knew where, just away from this destruction. A sudden decision to head bck to the relative safety of the hospital for the night probably set up her future, as she was ambushed trying to gather more supplies. In the wild ride to get away from the crazed man following her she ran off the road and down the hillside… near Dean’s bunker.

I found Bear Fallout to be a very intense, believable story (for the genre). If I also found Gina to be an annoyance, that’s because she kept making the same promise to not do stupid stuff, and broke it every time they found themselves in trouble. I “got” how that fell into the story, but I kept hoping she’d wise up at some point.

This particular story only takes up the first portion of the book space on the Kindle. The remainder of this were additional story gifts from the author.

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. For ten dollars a month you get access to thousands of really great stories across all genre, and the authors get paid for you reading the story through to the 100% mark. It’s a win-win. Probably the best 10 bucks I spend a month.

i read the audiobook. the narration was quite good.

i had forgotten that i had read this book as part of some were-bear collection at some point, so i didn't have it marked in my goodreads as specifically read.

it had been a while so though i had a vague idea- i wasn't totally sure of all the plot points and didn't remember specifically disliking it so i decided to give it a listen since it was part of the romance package.

it is a good novella. since it is a shorter story there isn't much character development but it still was good. there is sex, but only at the very end, it is much more story than sex, which i prefer.

it is set in post apocalyptic america but there are no zombies or anything like that. the fact that the H is a werebear is almost not necessary, but still makes the story interesting.

i would recommend this book to adults, since there is described sex in it.

I wish I'd read the ebook, the narrator made this hard to listen to. The character voices were OK (not good, just OK), but the delivery was bad. It was so overly dramatized that it was cringe-worthy, at the slightest sign that things weren't clam the delivery went to 'OMG the world is ending' dramatic, it was exhausting to listen to.

The story itself was enjoyable, the dynamic between Dean and Gina was interesting and as things developed the chemistry between them was strong. Dean is just the kind of person you'd want around if the world was going to sh*t.

I was a bit disappointed that we never find out why the apocalypse happened, but the rest of the story was great.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Doctor and Bear Shifter vs Apocalypse

Dr. Gina was hard at work in an underground morgue when the apocalyse hit. Pretty hard to miss your own country dropping nuclear bombs on itself.
Bear shifter Dean had been hiding from the law for two years in his grandfather’s underground bunker. He knew about the bombing but hadn’t seen or spoken to another human during those two years.
Two unlikely premises, some odd editing, and a lot of steamy sex. While the US disintegrates.
The book was free.

It was ok

I found myself constantly being frustrated by the female lead. Time and time again, despite do you telling her not to, she decides to try and help others. And every time it blows up in her face but it’s like she just can’t help herself. I was so frustrated with her I was kind of hoping Dean would leave her behind rather than get them all killed. And I wanted Dean to take Petey with him.

Dean the bear shifter thought he'd be fine in his shelter...Gina didn't know what happened. This was a good storyline and the main characters were interesting. As usual Ms. Fanning brought out the best in her shifters...it's like she has an insight to shifter behavior. Good beginning with a better ending. Definitely recommend it.

I am not a fan of Apocalyptic books. I find that they tend to be all the same sort of story. This one, on the other hand, I had bought in a set of 3 books so I decided to give it a try. I did finish it and I thought that is was OK. Not a spectacular read, but not something that I DNF. Overall a decent read but this author has other books that are much better.

Hiding in fallout shelter for two years before the world explodes has got to be difficult. But leave it to a woman to tame the beast. Having to leave the home (shelter) & the trials they encounter makes them stronger for the future. It does leave you hanging for some little episodes but there light at the end of the tunnel.

This is a review freely given. I really liked Ms. Fannings style of writing. It was an easy read with the storyline flowing from one scene to the next flawlessly. I only wish the ending could have been drawn out a bit more. After all that happened to and between Dean and Gina I felt the ending was a hurried finish. Even so I am looking forward to reading another one of her books.

As always this is a wonderful book by Becca. This book takes you on a journey of two people that find each other when all hope is lost. I loved the twist and turns it took and I absolutely love the ending. This is a short but is a must read

Wonderful story of love and romance. Each of the stories told about bigotry and fear of the unknown. Overcoming it and being a better person for it.

Gina is working the the morgue of her hospital one day which is a cold war fallout shelter. During her autopsy she hears some loud bangs but since it is the Fourth, she believe it is just fireworks. The power goes off and she emerges to find herself in a deserted hospital. Unsure what is going on, she rushes home to get her dog to find her town in flames. She returns to the hospital for the night and to get supplies. She is chased away by a crazy man who shoots at her. She is hit and drives off the road.
Dean is a survivalist who lives in a shelter in the woods. His grandfather taught him people are no good and he needs to protect himself. Dean finds Gina and her crashed car. He feels the urge to protect and help but it goes against all he had been taught. He struggles between his heart and mind.
This is a good story with suspense and drama but short on love and relationship building. It has a sudden end. I received a free copy of this story in return for my honest opinion.

I received this book and could not put it down I loved it! This is a book related to what could happen in a apocalyptic .Gina Flynnt is a doctor on the run trying to find some place safe after the town she is in is bombed. At first she thought it was fireworks from the 4th of July celebrations as she is working in the hospital morgue but when she gets upstairs she realized what had happened. She goes home gets her dog and flees but she gets into an lone car accident and is rescued by Dean Ward a man in hiding . What has happened? Why is Dean hiding? In this book you will find people trying to survive others with evil intent and two people trying the best they can to find some place safe. I was gifted a ARC copy for an honest review.

Amazing tale of survival after an apocalyptic event. I was definitely hooked into this storyline right from the get go! This author hit this one definitely out of the ball park! It's unique, very creative, and seriously not part of this authors norm. Of course our heroic shifter did not fail to provide some hot steamy moments. Love this book and highly recommend it! A copy of this book was given to me for an unbiased review.

Grady Memorial Hospital was deserted, the staff nowhere to be seen. Gina Flynnt was working alone in the morgue – everyone else had taken the day off to celebrate the 4th of July. She had finished up an autopsy when there was loud booming that shook the room! Okay, it was the 4th, but that was a bit extreme! She left the morgue, but the hallway was totally dark. It was silent, except for one room off to the side that she had never been in before. She entered it now, using her cell phone for light. Stacks of crates were everywhere. She found a metal box making an odd sound and decided to reconnect the adapters which had been disconnected at some point. As soon as she did, a horrible siren sounded, knocking her unconscious to the floor.

When Gina finally woke and made her way out of the dark hospital, she started home. As she rounded the last curve of the mountain road, she saw her town on fire and chaos below her. She raced home to rescue her dog, Petey.

This whole scenario was very unnerving (which means it was great reading!). I kept imagining how Gina was reacting to the craziness around her when she still had no idea what was going on. The reader was also kept in the dark and not quite sure what had happened. Gina had been way down in the morgue basement of what used to be an old fallout shelter and knew nothing. The only radio she had access to had static. Everything was deserted, the town was on fire, and she had nowhere to run. She drove back to the hospital to get supplies, but a man with a gun came after her. He shot her in the leg as she drove away in panic. With heavy blood loss, she passed out and the car went off the road. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning.

This book was amazing. I really loved it! It was full of danger and suspense, and kept the reader on the edge of the seat with all of the non-stop action going on. I was in awe! How would Gina be able to survive? With the world gone crazy, even if her injuries didn’t kill her, how would she escape almost certain death? I couldn't put this book down. It was intriguing, fascinating, and full of surprises at every turn! The author did a wonderful job ushering us into this frightening, all too believable, world! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a bit different than she's done as of late. I really enjoyed the story. Its like a post apocalyptic story with a shifter twist. Its full length. Gina is a doctor and works in the morgue of a hospital on the verge of closing there really isnt anyone there but her and maybe a staff member or two. Its 4th of July and she doesnt think much of the booming noises. Once upstairs she quickly realizes its not normal. Its utter chaos and she quickly goes home to get her dog and gets some things and supplies together and get outta dodge. She barely escapes but has an accident. Bear shifter Dean has been living in a fallout shelter for 2 years. He's been away from society because society turned their backs and quickly blamed shifters when things went wrong. He's a survivor and one day hears something outside his shelter and checks it out and finds Gina and her dog. She's unconscious but takes a risk and saves them both and takes them back not leaving a trace behind. They are trying to survive and have a few obstacles. They've got feelings for each other but Dean has trust issues. So, this is their journey. Not gonna spoil it all :) but its a great book and I enjoyed it.

This is very different from Becca's other books that I have read, but still very enjoyable. Gina is a doctor who is working in the morgue of a hospital which is way down in the basement, when she hears booms and thuds. When she is finished, she heads out and finds things are very wrong. The town is on fire, people are looting and a man shoots her in the leg. She gets her dog Petey and goes back to the hospital and loads her car up with all the medical supplies that she can fit into it. She crashes her car near the bunker that Dean has been staying in for two years and he hears the crash and goes out and rescues her. Dean tells Gina that the government bombed the cities and towns because of misinformed "intelligence". There is an accident in the bunker and an explosion and fire and lots of smoke. Most of their supplies are destroyed and they have to leave and hike away to find more supplies and a safe place to stay. They hear a message on a radio from General Harris telling them of a safe place north of Marshall Mountain, so they head there. Dean is going to leave Gina there as she is a doctor and can help the people, but he does not want to stay. Eventually they arrive there and are welcomed. Dean turns to leave and then decides to stay with Gina after all.

This is a fantastic, intriguing and suspenseful bear shifter romance and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
It is about: a young female doctor (Gina Flynn) at a understaffed hospital, who was busy in the morgue when she heard a noise that sounded very unusual when she discovered what was going on, all she can think of is escape and her dog (Petey). A hermit like man/bear Shifter (Dean) is hiding in a underground shelter when he hears a noise, now this is where the story becomes interesting. There is: twists & turns, suspense, intrigue, an apocalypse, explosions, dread, violence, threats, hunger, pain, home, injuries, driving, accident, man/bear shifter, discovery, treatment, politics, a fire, danger, guns blazing, hiking, radio, news, an encampment, welcomed, lust, emotional feelings, love and steamy scenes. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and exceptionally well-written. The characters are well-developed with personalities with emotional feelings of fear, needs, lust and desires. I would recommend this book to people that like to read this genre, I doubt that you would be disappointed.

Well what can I say? I loved this. The when apocalypse thing was different from Becca but works.
Gina was working at the hospital then all hell broke loose. Trying to escape out of town with a car full of supplies and being shot at she has an accident. Also comes crashing into Deans life. The Bear shifter who has been a hermit  for 2 years due to a incident.
These two even though they have no reason to trust the other forms a bond. Believe me it's not easy. Dean lacks in basic social skills, but still he tried for Gina and Petey. Oh I love Petey!! So loyal bless him. I was worried about few times that something would happen to him. Such a fighter and protector.  Both he and Dean bond in protecting Gina. I had a couple of moments that had me wondering what's going to happen. Oh no is someone going to attack while they vulnerable? I really enjoyed this . Watching Dean come out of himself more and how he feels for Gina and Petey.  When the world nearly ends it's still possible to find love to fight for.

Bear Fallout ( BBW Bear Shifter Romance) by Becca Fanning 4.5 Stars

Becca Fanning's twist on a apocalypse story is unique and interesting.

Gina is a human who works in the morgue. One night while alone there working all hell breaks loose. Terrified she runs home to rescue her dog Petey only to discover the whole town is burning. Can she make it out safe and alive or will a crash with her car change the course of her plans?

Dean is a bear shifter who has been hiding out in a bunker for 2 years preparing and stocking supplies for just this instance. When Gina crashes her car near his front door all things will definitely change . He hasn't been around people and has trust issues while she is trying to help people.
2 people unsure of the future or what they should be doing makes a great story.

Gina works at the morgue in the local hospital, while working one night a siren rings out into the night and the hospital is rocked by a series of explosions... Unsure of what's going on, she heads outside to find it eerily quiet. The only evidence that something is happening is the smoke rising up into the night's sky... Heading home she finds her neighbourhood in flames and gets what she can from her home including her dog before that goes up too.. Fleeing from the raging fire she hits a tree and then it all goes black..
Dean has been hiding in his underground bunker for two years, until he finds a woman slumped at the wheel, with a bullet wound.. He knows he should leave her to keep himself safe, but can't bring himself to leave her there.. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and loving Becca Fanning.. can't wait to read more from here..

Gina is working at Grady Hospital when the world as she knows it forever changes. Driving like crazy to get to her house and to Petey, her dog. After she gets everything she thinks they will need and the town around her on fire she heads out only to get into an accident and black out. Dean is a bear shifter who for the last two years has been in his fallout shelter, after an incident, and isn't used to people being around, but he cant walk away from the car that ends up outside his shelter and the woman injured inside. What follows is two people trying to get used to each other during a stressful situation and then having to go out in order to survive. When Dean could walk away from Gina he ends up coming back for her. A different kind of shifter story from Becca Fanning. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read quite a few of Becca's books and I have enjoyed them and I have given them an average of four starts but this one definitely wasn't what I was expecting and definitely earned the five stars I've given it as it had a lot more substance to the story and kept my full attention from the start to the finish sorry for the repetition on the word definitely, but it was 'definitely' the best one yet:-) The end of the world is happening - the story begins with Gina who worked as a doctor autopsy doctor in basement of Grady Memorial Hospital, it had always been understaffed but this was ridiculous it was so quite - Dean a bear shifter and know the truth, he knew what was coming and when everyone else in society took things for granted he left society and prepared for the end he knew was coming - I won't tell you any more as I hate when reviewers spoil the story for other readers.
