This vegan cookbook is small in size at only 99 pages but big on taste and inventive recipes. It doesn’t include much information about veganism for those new to it however; they include a link to a free ebook titled ‘Vegan Living’. The author claims that it provides all the benefits of going vegan and challenges involved.
Vegan: High Protein Cookbook is broken into the following recipe types:
Smoothies Breakfast Salads Soups & Chili Appetizers Main Courses Side Dishes Deserts
Many of the recipes include supplement protein powders which, I don’t like to use. However, for most you can just leave them out. I just don’t like to use supplements and prefer to get my protein and vitamins by eating a balanced diet. I also think unless you are an athlete, you really don’t need the excess protein of supplements. However, for those worried about getting enough protein this is a great cookbook. I wish it had been around when I first went vegan!
All of the recipes are easy to make and most are quick, under 30 minutes. It’s great for those on the run and have little time to cook.
I recommend this cookbook to beginner vegans who are worried about getting enough protein and to seasoned vegans who just want some new quick and easy recipes to add to their repertoire.
I received the ebook version of this book for my honest review.
I had gastric bypass about 15 years ago. One of the things they emphasized was to eat protein first. When I was feeling sluggish and shakey, it was because I had low protein intake and needed more. I learned to eat high protein meals and snacks and have done that ever since.
Having now collected many other vegan cookbooks from Kuma, when I saw this book with high protein recipes I knew it was a must have, and even more "must have" than the other books I had said the same thing about. I didn't care whether it was vegan or not, whether my family is vegan or not. It has high protein recipes and that alone makes me want it!
I haven't had the chance to make anything with it yet, since we have had a lot going on and I have been cooking the same old familiar quick and easy meals. But the last day or so I have been reading through the recipes and I am ready to get cooking. I have done menu planning for the next week and am headed off to the grocery store later to stock up on all I need. I love that the recipes don't have all that many uncommon or hard to find ingredients. I can still shop at my local stores, farmers markets, and organic stores to pick up everything I need.
As with his other collections, I do wish he would include more visual appeal so I want to try them out more. I really need a visual guide to know what it is supposed to look like in the end. I also wish he would include a breakdown of the different values of everything, especially the protein count in these recipes per serving. I think if he added these things in, the books would be so much better.
His writing is good, though. The recipes spell everything out clearly and I have no confusion when trying things from the other collections. Off to the store to get what I need!
It's a very practical cookbook to accomplish delicious and protein-rich vegan meals. It doesn't go into details of veganism but offers a link to a free e-book that contains useful information for people new to the vegan diet and lifestyle.
The recipes in this cookbook are carefully crafted to ensure high protein content. I can attest that all recipes I tried are very filling, yummy, and easy to prepare. One of my favorite recipes is "Eggplant & Mushrooms in Peanut Sauce". This recipe asks for Japanese eggplants, yet regular eggplants worked out for me ;) It took me around 36 minutes to accomplish a mouthwatering meal.
All recipes are easy to follow and I love the simple format. I highly recommend to all who want to boost their protein intake. It's certainly more delicious than a bland protein powder and more entertaining for your taste buds.
