"Retribution" by NyRee Ausler
My Thoughts...
This read will definitely intriguing keeping you turning the pages to see what will happen next on this roller coaster ride in Seattle. The author gives the reader quite a well written suspenseful urban story that is laced with some many twist and turns that flowed so well in the telling of the story. Many times when you think you have it figured out how the story is going, then something else will pop up leaving you to say I didn't see that coming ...like that ending...wow what a surprise! The characters from Asaya, James, Tonya to Rey were all very complexed and flawed people in some way or another except for the mother in law and child. Be ready for a story is presented with a 'love triangle, murders and betrayals' and I found through reading this story that almost each of the main characters had a story of their own to tell. Definitely the title was very appropriate for this novel "Retribution: What Goes Around." All I can say is "expect the unexpected" because it looks like it's not over for Asaya and James because we will get more from the next series by this author in "Retribution: ....Comes Around." Would I recommend this novel? YES!
I really enjoyed this book. There was good character development and the situations seemed plausible even though there were some crazy ones! What I liked most about this book is the truth about the people you meet, the people you love and those you let into your personal space. Everyone doesn't have your best interest at heart. I think this story showed that throughout a few relationships and it was hard to pin down what was going to happen next. There were so many things happening that you may have forgotten what was going on because you got wrapped up in another portion of the story. Also, it seems like there may be a sequel. I had a feeling about the ending!
**Disclaimer** I received an early autographed copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. This is Mrs. Ausler's first novel, and she did good. The story was well thought out and she did a great job with her characters. There was suspense and surprise. Just when you thought you had it all figured out the plot would show that the character you thought was good, wasn't so good at all, or visa versa. This appears to be the beginning of a series, so I look forward to seeing what happens with Asaya and James with Rey still in the picture. Looks like her family is about to grow as well. Very good for a first book. I wish the author all the luck in the world.
I won the whole series on Instagram and Im so happy to have these books on my bookshelf. This series is LIT and I honestly enjoyed it. The story had me on the edge of my seat and had many unexpected twists and turns I definitely didn't see coming. Nyree is an amazing storyteller. Its not your ordinary urban fiction book you would usually read (violence, drugs, etc.) and thats what I loved about it. YOU WILL BE IN FOR A RIDE WITH THIS ONE
I typically don't read urban books but thought I'd give it a try when a friend suggested it. I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was descriptive, the character development was great and the story was entertaining without being too crass. I will surely give any other works from this author a try.
An excellent look at unfaithfulness, forgiveness, and jealousy are intertwined in the lives of three close friends. Well-written, "RETRIBUTION What Goes Around" carries with it some surprises, especially at the end.
I was liking the book in the beginning but then it got really slow and boring when she went to Hawaii. James was dirty and low down. The way he treated his wife and the things he did to her were unforgivable. I was rooting for Rey. The author made him this stand up but I'm the beginning and all of a sudden he's this horrible person. I hated the book took a turn. Now she's back with James which makes her a damn fool.
I love that a Black woman from Seattle is out here writing fiction. It was an intriguing story with some interesting characters and she’s a good writer but I didn’t find it as exciting as other reviews. It was just ok for me but gets me out of my mind and relaxing for a little while and that’s what I needed. There’s definitely a cliffhanger ending and I liked it enough to keep going and see what happens.
Not gonna drop any spoilers, but with 2 sequels, you had to know there was ‘a lotta mo’ to this story. I’m tough on authors & don’t give out five stars all willy-nilly BUT this one is right there! A worthy read with intriguing characters...get yours today!
Nyree Ausler can tell a story. I was immediately drawn in to the tale of a wife mistreated by her husband. I really liked this character I rooted for her to take back her life. What happened next three me for a loop. As a reader I was as naive as the character. I couldn’t wait to redeem myself with book 2.
This book was not bad. It jumped right into the plot which was appreciated. I started and finished the entire book within a few hours in one evening.
There were a number of typos that bothered me just a little bit but otherwise the book was decent. I would've like to have a little more background on the characters, but perhaps background will be provided in the sequels.
It had potential but the dates didn’t match up and it was really far fetched. One minute it was a week later, the next minute it was a couple of months, the next min it was 4 days.
I loved the whole idea of back a forth relationship and the fact that Rey did everything in his power to keep his dream girl, I love James fought for his family and did everything in his power to keep it
My first read with this author🙂 it's a good read. Crazy is a understatement about the BFF... James thinks his secret is safe?? Think again my friend it's about to get real😉
A good read, this book will have you on the edge of your seat! Get ready to take ride! Some things are just to good to be true and the end of the book reveals that! Loved it
The very end was surprising. The story was an easy good read, there were some parts that were a little predictable, but then again I predict most things in books and movies.
First time I've read anything from the author. Read the reviews and thought I would try it. Well, I totally enjoyed it to say the least. On to the next!
Held my attention throughout the book. There were a few predictable plot twists, but the book was still entertaining. Looking forward to the next installment.
