Halloween is all just fun and games… Until someone disappears. Diner owner and amateur sleuth, Sonja Reed, is gearing up for Halloween by preparing a delicious array of desserts for trick-or-treaters, as well as making plans for catering the local middle school's annual party. Halloween is her favorite holiday and it seems like nothing can ruin the festive mood, until a young girl under Sonja's supervision suddenly disappears, seemingly into thin air. Her concern grows profoundly when Sonja’s love interest, Sheriff Frank Thompson, reveals that an escaped criminal may be on the loose in Haunted Falls, and a strange figure, who is dressed as the grim reaper, seems to be desperately trying to get her attention. Will Sonja be able to find the missing young girl before it’s too late, or will this spooky holiday turn deadly?
A fast, fun Halloween read involving a missing middle school girl, a prison escapee called the Halloween Kidnapper and witchcraft. Sonia Reed and her boyfriend, Sheriff Frank Thompson work together to solve a complex and unusual mystery. I like the entertaining characters and how the ending always has a surprise twist. This is a fun series that makes the perfect bedtime read.
What did I just read? I mean that in the best way possible. The only thing I didn't like was that kids were targeted. In my personal cozy rules, there are two groups that I feel should never be victims – kids and pets. But that's just my personal preference. This is definitely a perfect Halloween read – a nice creepy cozy.
Yowza! This book is spooky and definitely Halloween material! I love that there is more interaction between Sonja and the sheriff. The ending is such a surprise that I am still wondering.......
Kindle Unlimited, takes forever to get the actual story started, and not even because setting up needed backdrop information, just sluggishly slow and boring, full of one dimensional cardboard characters and plots. All the detail seems to be saved for the parts that matter the least to the actual story. Unbelievable situations and gotten in to by cardboard characters with equally unbelievable although you saw it coming a mile away 'solutions' along with ridiculously fake 'relationship' tensions.
By the way, when you have a baby as a character, at least decide and stick to whether it's a boy or a girl, and not change it in various sentences from her to him. Also useless made up drama, it adds nothing to a story, except my distaste for it. Blah blah blah, akin to the sound of the adults in a snoopy video. By the way again, few other points; plastic does not melt 'on contact' when thrown even in to a fireplace, the person in the photo is not the person in the photo uh huh, cheap cameraman is also besides the point unless meant cheap camera and it's not much of a point, Why would a place in a book series titled diner of the dead be decorated in 50's style, and gouda waffles uh yuck and I like smoked gouda but it would not go good in a waffle and even worse in crepe type and would be pretty bland and even more bland as a crumbled topping as unlike the description claims it is neither savory nor sweet but smoky, along with more blah blah useless filler crap, and someone can't make a crepe in a regular waffle iron anyway one uses a crepe maker which the writer would know if she had done any actual research for a restaurant which supposedly serves waffles and seemingly some type of crepes. Somebody waiting tables would not be messing with garbage even if bagged up, and on and on, though 10 mind yet painfully numbing useless 'books' all the cookie cutter ridiculously pathetically the same.
Would like to extend my congratulation to the 'writer' of this mess, as before now have never given a 1 to well whatever genre this mess is supposed to have been, saving the 1's for very bad sci-fi romances that are bad excuses for printing crap. For a 'writer' who supposedly has not only a degree but a BA in English, so not able to tell that nor the supposed creative writing credentials claimed, and which obviously did not include anything on how to research anything at all.How can someone who has been away from the town for years still be involved or linked in just about every possible way to every possible case, and how many cases could there even reasonably be in that small of a town.

I'm tired of cozy mystery protagonists dating a local cop. I get that it provides the main character with information and a built in hero, but it's overdone.
This one was too simple and rushed. It needed more development, especially concerning the villain. It came out of nowhere and really could have gone somewhere interesting.
Take a sensitive, add an escaped kidnapper, middle school students and Halloween. Add a little romance, a witch and the sheriff. Remove one student and start to sort the details.
I'm in the minority here but I felt this book read like it was for junior high. Very little mystery and a weak plot. There were supernatural aspects hinted at which never materialized. The characters seemed one dimensional and the ending rushed. A big disappointment.
Wow, these books are really getting quite gripping. The supernatural element is getting really interesting now. I just can't wait to see what happens next as these books are getting to the point where I feel the need to just binge read them all.
I like this story. While celebrating Hallowe'en, Sonja searches for a missing girl, and sees the man in the skull mask. There are twists , and a surprise at the end. I like the idea of a waffle iron which makes waffles in the shape of pumpkins.
It's Halloween in Haunted Falls and mayhem is about to ensue. Sonja has a catering job at the middle school Halloween party and spends the morning preparing her treats. The diner enjoys a busy morning of business including her friend Belinda and her visiting aunt, Beatrice. After they leave Sonja welcomes a visit from her boyfriend, the local sheriff. In the midst of her morning preparations Sonja is unsettled by the sighting of a man wearing a skull mask and cape. Sonja arrives at the party and the festivities soon begin and chaos follows quickly.
This was a fabulous addition to the series. I'm so glad the the relationship between Sonja and Frank is blossoming. I think they make a great couple. This book was filled with interesting twists and turns. It also leaves you wondering what happens next!
This really has got to be my favorite Diner of the Dead book so far, it also seemed like the longest. The characters are great and the town seems really nice, so it feels really good to really see Sonja playing such an important role and be a part of the community. She never hesitates to step in where she can help so making pumplin waffles for the school Halloween party was just the start of it. She helps out with the party and helps when all hell breaks loose during the haunted house. The supernatural element wasn't a ghost this time but much more scary and mysterious, and I think it added a whole new element to the series. This town sure has a lot going on in it and I can't wait to see what will happen in the future for Sonja and the diner. I really enjoyed this book.
Lady owned a diner and made pumpkin pie waffles that everyone liked. She was making treats for the school Halloween party this year. She was dating the sheriff for a few months. The excitement comes at the school party starts. But the damper on it was news that a Halloween terror escaped from prison. So everyone was worried about him showing up. In the spook house was scary and when the group of kids come out of it someone was missing. No one knew where she was. So that was the end of the party for now they had to hunt for this girl. Her and the sheriff checked around and in the end with the two of them found what was going on. Witches and ghosts around town - hmm...maybe
I liked reading this book. I think what I like three the most about this book was when the series initially started Sonja was moving back to town and somehow she seen her father after he hasn't seen him for a long time. I was actually wondering what happened to him because the author didn't bring him back up in any books so it was nice to read this book because there was more than one mystery. I'm a little disappointed that there wasn't as much paranormal as I was expecting considering this is a paranormal closing butt at the end of the day it was still a great read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Love this series! I got so into this book that when someone walked in the room I was a tad scared. Sonja is told by her new boyfriend and local sheriff to watch out for the Halloween Kidnapper. So when one of the girls comes up missing during the school Halloween party she is determined to find her and the kidnapper. Can't say enough about this series. Carolyn Hunter keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I love this series! Sonja who communicates with spirits and owns the local diner is preparing for the Halloween festivities at her diner and at the local middle school. When a student disappears from the haunted house Sonja calls her boyfriend and local sheriff and the investigation begins. Don't miss this book!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Each book in this series has me liking it more and more. I enjoy spending time with these characters and learning more about them. There are plenty of moments that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. The mystery was well done, I was surprised by the outcome. I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.
Love the characters that keep me entertain as I continued to read each chapter. The storyline keep me trying to figure out who the murderer was. I keep thinking I got it and I was wrong. I like how it keep me guessing.
I absolutely loved this book! The best book of the series. A middle school Halloween party leads to all kinds of trouble. Can Sonia help Frank solve the mystery in time? A witch, a creepy mausoleum and pumpkin waffles! Can you ask for anymore? Great Halloween cozy!!!
It definitely put me in the mood for all things fall. A Halloween mystery or two. Very good read and great for a one sitting story. The clues threw me off just when I thought it all made sense. Some pumpkin waffles sound good but I'll skip the haunted house.
I loved the Halloween theme. It's finally good that Sheriff Thompson is starting to trust Sonjas instincts. Can't wait to read about their next adventure. Hopefully a little more in the romance department too.
