“Stryker – Book Two” is the continuation of the first book. Set in rural Texas, our band of heroes face several encounters with danger, including run in with a band of ISIS terrorists who have invaded the homeland with the intent of occupying what is left of the United States. The nation is on its knees in the wake of an ISIS-created plague that has killed 97% of the world’s population. But, Stryker has another idea for the terrorists: elimination and extinction. Follow along as the former Recon Marine, his former drill instructor, and others overcome obstacles and danger in the effort to keep what is left of the American population safe from every threat.
My rating is probably because I compare all apocalyptic works to the Whiskey Foxtrot Tango series. While this story has potential too much time is spent plowing the same ground about peoples personalities and values and how they got the way they did. I think the author missed an opportunity to bring the invaders into the story line other than the few skirmishes which didn't really do them justice.
Lots of action in this one. Almost too much action since Stryker seemed to want to pick a fight with everyone-3 guys against 100, no problem! 3 guys against 25 phhhfttt. A lot of the dialogue seems to repeat itself. I get that he didn't want to leave the ranch but wants to do what the others think is best. I don't need it in 4 different dialogues. Move on, Stryker. Still, I will reason #3 just to see what happens to the group.
While I enjoyed the story, I was dismayed by an increase in spelling and grammar errors, as well as some formatting issues. I hope that the next book is a bit cleaner while keeping with the quality story elements.
Maybe not as good as the first one. A lot of people died. It moved very quickly to a resolution of sorts. No cliffhanger at the end, but a transition of sorts.
This was an easy read with lots of action and characters you can relate with. I will continue reading as I am drawn to where these people are going next.
The terrorist induced plague which decimated 97% of the world’s population has finally burned itself out. The remaining survivors are immune, wander the countryside gathering supplies, and encounter those who would still rather fight than join ranks. Stryker and Sarge with their female charges consider making their way to the east coast of the country in search of new digs near the ocean. What they find when they reach Corpus Christi on the Texas coast is ISIS troops unloading from cargo ships. It was too late to do anything about the situation now. Sarge was sent to get supplies and explosives and they would meet at an overpass ISIS would have to cross down the road. They came upon another Force Recon survivor, Blane Edwards who was looking for Stryker. An ambush was set and they waited for their prey to show up. Feeling that their job wasn’t completely successful they managed to enlist the help of a Navy fleet off the California coast. Once that was completed Edwards and Elle headed to Portland to look for Edwards’s family. Stryker, Erin and Hailey started on their journey to San Diego to a safer, more moderate place. This is an excellent story, well-written with well-developed, likable characters.
