I think my co-worker was sick of me nattering on about the Phantom 2040 cartoon because he got me both the only bits on DVD and two of the comics. I'm completely not an "action comics" kind of girl (I'm so not into them, I don't even know what they're really called!) but since he got them for me, I feel obligated to give 'em a whirl.
So, the cartoon had a spice that was lacking in this - the few episodes I've seen recently had diverse casting, sarcastic/psychotic characters, and a general mid-1990s je ne sais quois. This, on the other hand, was very straight laced. Sooo, straight laced. However, since I laughed out loud at least three times from cheesy lines and also because I'm amused by 90s fashions (why 2040, you look so much like 1995!) I gave it an entire extra star.
