Which boxes did this book tick?

nice cover - check
suspense - check
mystery - check
coincidences beyond belief - check
unbelievably gorgeous women - check
ok steamy romance - check

I liked the case. It had a good enough build-up and I got strung along nicely guessing away at the different suspects. And believe me, I did not guess this one.

I felt for the different characters. They had all interesting and complex back stories. However herein lies also a little disappointment of mine. We as a reader understood some of the motivations, because of those stories, but in my opinion there was not enough opening up between the two mains Astrid and Callie. I mean the side love story had deeper conversations than those two. This left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. I love myself a good build-up and mutual understanding paired with growing sexual tension. Here we had mostly sexual tension.

I have to admit, Astrid drove me crazy. She is this reporter who got burned on a big scoop, because the information was too disastrous and her editor was friends with the accused. So why, for Pete's sake, is she so trusting? She leaves her computer with all her juicy files in a B&B where the room doors can't be looked. And this when another journalist from a rivaling paper stays in the same B&B. Plus she hasn't even got a password.
Talk about stupidity and carelessness, please! How can I believe in her difficulty to trust people in view of these blatant clues to the opposite?

Ok, ok, I bury my hatchet now but I swear I was close to shaking her.

The cover is nicely done. Super alignment of title and author's name and the writing fits nicely into the picture, becomes part of it. Very nice color scheme as well. I like the way the very light shoulder and face sit in the blackness of the surroundings. Even though I'm not such a big fan of only a face on the cover, I must admit that this fits well.

Another mystery unsolved by me, lol.

This was just what I had been looking for. I enjoy a good lesbian romance and a good crime mystery, this title had both. Oh, and I just knew I'd figured out who killed Lexi but I was so far off the mark. I would've never guessed who actually killed her on my own without the reveal. Then, there's the connection that builds between Astrid and Callie. It was your typical "love/hate to I love you" situation but it was still nice to read as it all played out. If you have some time on your hands, this would be a great book to occupy it.

When I finished „Flirting with Danger“ it felt a bit, as if there is still more in store for the characters. More to dig, more to find out. Don’t get me wrong, the story is told and finished. There is no need for more. But I wouldn’t mind to dive deeper into the past and future of the main characters. But not only theirs.

What surprised me most with this book, is, that – while I quite liked the two main characters – I actually was most interested in one of the other characters: Keri. She is a supporting character and quite important for the story. But I would have loved to get her story told. Fully. Like: What, if this novel was told from Keri's point of view – entirely. In the end I would definitely also would have liked to get to know more about the two original main characters Astrid and Callie, but while reading I kept looking forward to Keri-scenes, so she definitely could do with her own novel, too.

„Flirting with danger“ is a fun read with interesting characters and quite some twists.

Flirting With Danger — Jade Winters (48 chapters) September 21, 2021

Jade Winters is one of my favorite authors. She mixes sexy bits here with true mystery and intrigue and it comes off perfect.

Lexi, a friend of Callie’s has disappeared and Lexi's father Robert, and stepmother Roxy are hiding something. But what is it? Astrid has been sent to the scene by her boss to get a story, not knowing that another reporter with ulterior motives wants to scoop her and see her off another story. It takes both Astrid and Callie to figure out what is going on.

This duo plot is a handful but actually works well together. This was an enjoyable read. A lot of chapters but they read fast.

Four stars.

Good Read

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The characters had depth to them. The storyline flowed very well. It’s challenging for an author to give the reader so much in such a small space. Yet Jade has done exactly that. She has created suspense, mystery and anticipation with this one. Jade, wonderful job with this one.

Really? Astrid?

Besides the fact that it was hard for me to imagine someone sexy and alluring with the name Astrid(sounds like the hottest woman at the senior home).....this book had me wanting to stay up all night to read more. Very entertaining read!
