William S. Frisbee Jr. - The return - The Conglomerate Trilogy (Volume 1) A REVIEW

5 Stars
I enjoyed this novel for its action, attention to detail and authentic feel.

From realistic space conflicts to door to door ground actions, the battle scenes have an authenticity that is hard to find in Sci-Fi. Add to that well fleshed-out characters and even sentient androids with distinct personalities. The descriptions of aliens and world-building are excellent. His explanation of the detailed description and usage of various weapons and weapon systems show a strong preparation in his writing formula. This is my first book by this author, but it won't be my last.

Awesome Story

Lots of action. Complicated characters. Plot twists abound. I read this thing in four hours start to finish. I'm looking forward to book two.

Great Military Scifi combat!

WS Frisbee is a military tactics expert. This comes through in his novel, a speculation of possible future of Earth dystopian galaxy. The well rounded characters drive the plot, as they make decisions how to handle events and actions of others around them.

Hero Luke has had a long life as a successful Space Marine, fighting on many fronts. As with all great heroes, tragic loss has guided him into position and growth, to where he is found today. Luke continues to make the hard decisions, effecting those around him.

Can he sacrifice those he loves for the good of mankind? Can he sacrifice manind for the good of his loved ones? Can he sacrifice himself for the good of all? Or will his ultimate tactics lead the enemy to dash themselves on the rocks of their dark principles?

I especially enjoyed the naming and programming scheme of the robotic AI's. Robo-psychology 101? If we give an AI the name of a famous general, will it emulate said general in tactics, and success? In human psychology this is called setting an high expectation for the person to emulate. Will an AI give a damn about that? ...if it is programmed to, perhaps.

Please join me in poking this great military scifi author to shoot his sequals through the hands of his editors ASAP so we can live in this exciting setting and dive facefirst into more gripping space marine action!

A military sci-fi story starring a very successful and effective introvert. Possibly autistic. Who, in the first 10% is stripped of all agency. Though the reader is told many times he is in command, literally zero people follow any of his commands. Anything he says is ignored and he is forced against his will to, disregarding and mocking his rank to go against everything he lives for. Meanwhile, a random chick that watched too many reruns of Luke's last battle in Sol system convinces herself she's his dead wife. She also strips him of any agency, just like everyone else. Luke is treated as nothing more than a delusional child by everyone including those programmed to follow his every order. What a terrible existence for any introvert much less a possible high functioning autistic.

Interesting and I liked the characters

I liked the idea of this series and enjoyed the first book. I also liked all the characters and look forward to seeing what happens. The way the alien civilization is set up is unique, primitive yet advanced all at the same time and created to eradicate weakness and over aggressiveness. The androids were entertaining. Excited to read the sequel.

Overall I found it to be entertaining and it held my interest enough to favorite W.S.Frisbee. The author didn't delve into what makes things work but still was descriptive and kept the story flow moving. I felt the main character might be a little schizoid but IMO that probably adds to the story. I've started the second book.........

I will read this book again!

What a ride! The characters, the story, the technology. Very well written with characters that have depth. Exciting, nerve wracking and emotional. I'm about to start the next book and so looking forward to it.

This is the first book I have read by this author. It took me a little bit to get into the story, but the world building and character development sucked me in such a way that I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Lots of battle scenes and will they survive moments to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A license to engage

Mr Frisbee does not disappoint. This new series is sure to be a winner. The players are introduced and fleshed out (what better way to learn someone than through combat), and the story line drawn in his usual, competent manner. Really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading the rest.
