Celeste Maher receives a request from a Serbian count to expedite the paperwork for his purchase of a mansion in upstate New York. In doing so, she falls into a web of intrigue, deception, Satanism and murder in this unique spin on the vampire genre. The novel opens as Celeste in being questioned for complicity in the suicide of her client, Velimir Radojka, during his custody in the MCC at NYC. Her boyfriend, Shea Tyrone, is trying to clear her name while investigating the Vampire Killings in East Harlem. He comes across an impending gang war between drug posses that become correlated to Amber Alerts and rumors of human sacrifices throughout the ghetto area. Both Celeste and Shea begin to suspect that the elderly philanthropist may have brought a demonic cult to America along with the Serbian vampire legend. This isn't about pretty teens slinging automobiles, this is the little old man next door being accused of ritual murder on two continents. Or is it a set-up to hide the dirty work of genocidal mercenaries and ruthless gangsters looking for a tabloid way out? Pick up a copy of Vampir and see for yourself.

What an incredible story! Knowing that John Dizon writes in different genres, I wasn't sure where this story would fall. After finishing this great book, I still don't know. It's a great thriller and crime drama but with a vampire who is a direct descendant of Dracula. The story moves across two continents as an NYPD detective tries to prove his girlfriend's innocence in a strange murder with a missing body. This book is a real page turner, and John Dizon has proved once again that he is the master of suspense.

This book is nothing like I expected! Vampir by John Reinhard Dizon is a cross between a crime drama like Law and Order and a cheesy black and white horror film, minus the cheesy parts. The story begins with a news report about Celeste Maher, a prominent NYC lawyer, being arrested as a suspect in the murder of Count Velimir Radojka. This Count was her client and had been arrested for a string of murders/disapperances involving throats being slit and blood drained from his victims. Homicide detective Shea Tyrone arrives at the precinct to speak to his long-term girlfriend Celeste after her arrest, he also happened to be the detective on the Radojka case.

This story is by no means my typical read, however I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and found I wasn't able to sit it down. As I said earlier the plot plays out much like the crime dramas that were so popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Though the focus is Celeste telling her side of the story to the questioning officers, a majority of the plot is played out in flashbacks told from Celeste's, Shea's, a priest's, and Radojka's POVs. For me I found it a little hard to follow at first, but after a couple chapters of the back and forth POVs and the flip from past to present the story flowed well. Instead of focusing on the problem presented on the first page (Celeste's arrest for the murder of Radojka), the story focuses on the ritualistic killings that Radojka was arrested for.

I found the characters well developed and relatable for the most part. There were instances however that I felt could have been left out of the story, like Celeste giving Shea a blow job. To me that didn't add to the story or the characters, I felt it was just an attempt to add some sex into the story when it could have just been alluded to. Anyways that's my personal thoughts on the subject.

Overall, the story was just ok. I would give it a solid 3.5 to 4 stars. The twist ending was a nice surprise for me and actually upped how much I enjoyed the entire book. If you like crime novels or horror novels, than I think you would enjoy this book.

I received a copy of this ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The son of Prince Radu of Serbia, the grandson of Vlad the Impaler, a believer in the demon Moloch, and a Nosferatu, comes to New York. His attorney in New York, who also helps him arrange the sale of his castle and estate near Peja, is, parenthetically the sweetheart of Shea Tyrone, a New York Police Department detective. Celeste is her name. And she feels obligated to Velimir Radojka for several reasons not the least of which is his obvious age and what she understands to be his failing condition. When he arrives and takes up a residence in a gang ridden area of Harlem strange and very bad things begin to happen in the neighborhood. The culmination of these things ends with Velimir promising to give wealth and ability beyond her wildest dreams to Celeste. If you wish to know more you must read the book.
This is an easy reading, well written, "shortish" novel that will keep your attention and demand your willingness to give it the time necessary, once you begin to read, to finish it. It is a real page turner, taking you from one incredible scenario to another, surprising, with turns of the course you think it might be taking, occurring rapidly. It is well put together in terms of presentation, it presents no distractions of any nature and the characters are well drawn in concert with the story. I heartily recommend this book to any one of an age above sixteen and only feel it appropriate to put that age limitation on my recommendation because of the graphic violence in the book. I enjoyed it immensely and read it in one day. Thanks John. Another job very well done indeed and well deserving of five stars.

Part detective thriller and part paranormal horror with the impact of the original Dracula, Vampir caught my interest from the first page. Lawyer Celeste Maher has just been arrested for the murder of her elderly Serbian client, Count Radojka. But the twist is Count Radojka was already in jail and the murder weapon seems far from deadly. Oh, and there is no body!

The story unrolls like a case from Law and Order only the story becomes stranger and far more threatening. Celeste’s boyfriend, Detective Shea Tyrone is determined to prove his girlfriend innocence, if he can manage to stop street gangs on the verge of war and solve a series of grizzly murders happening on those same streets.

Author John Dizon ties up all the plot threads in a marvelous ending - one I don’t want to give away. I’ll just say that all information is important as the story progresses from a strange criminal case that began with an international real estate deal and leads to grisly murders and a monster that has deservedly spawned legends, all told through characters you come to root and fear for. This books in an engrossing and easy read that can be finished in a weekend (or a day!) and leave you with chills.

This tale is far from the typical vampire story that has become a cliche over the last decade. The story opens where a lawyer is being held for the murder of her client, but something is amiss. This was no ordinary client. This client was suspected of some gruesome murders which included exsanguination. The lawyer's long term boyfriend is the detective on the client's case, but goes on a quest to clear his girlfriend's name. Forget what you know about vampire stories boys and girls, cause this is something new! Of course it does contain murders and disappearances, but Mr. Dizon adds a nice twist to a popular tale.

The characters are well developed and consistent throughout the story. The story has a smooth flow and is fast paced, which leaves you wanting more. One of my favorite descriptions applies to a Jamaican gang involved in voodoo and rituals who whacks anyone who gets in their way. Their enemies are "now feeding the worms". The story grabs you from the beginning, and you become disappointed when it ends. Thank you author for creating such an interesting and awesome read!

Excellent read, nice twist...

John Reinhard Dizon has written a great vampire book with an excellent twist to the Stoker version of Dracula. His villain, Count Radojka, is a direct descendant of Vlad III, The Impaler (otherwise known as Dracula), and with the help of a young lady lawyer, he sells his castle and moves to America.
The plot thickens as corpses inevitably start turning up and our hero, detective Shea, investigates.
I won't give away all of the exciting details, but just let it be said... you don't want to miss out on this superbly written book. There are sequels in the making and I, for one, intend on reading these, also.
I highly recommend this book to all vampire fans and anyone looking for a good scare.

Celeste Maher is an attorney and trying to help poor Velimir Rodojka only he's not the poor victim she thinks he is. Celeste's boyfriend Shea is the detective trying to figure out the murders where mysterious marks and loss of blood are the cause of death. Throw in a concerned priest fighting the evil doings and you get a great story. This novel talks about more than just vampires and doesn't focus on the crazy wive's tales about Vampire's like other novels, instead John Dizon tells a compelling story that is well written and takes the reader on a great ride. Thanks for the great read, highly recommended!

The book opens as Celeste is being questioned over her involvement with the death of her mysterious Serbian client, Velimir Rodojka, and her boyfriend, Shea, tries to clear her name. Mysterious murders are going on with loss of blood and strange marks that look like human sacrifices for a demonic cult. This is a unique vampire's tale at a great pace that has compelling characters, mystery, and suspense! Thanks for such a great read and I highly recommend it!

DNF. Interesting concept, but the story did not flow and the characters became more and more cliche.

Creepy

Very well written but it starts with present day and does go back and forth a bit. Also shame the ending comes first however modern take on Dracula, cover misleading as no sexy vampire scenes
