Fantasy Romance

Claire Arden only recently discovered the fact that she's half fae, and already, she's been subjected to the gossiping ladies of the western court, assassination attempts, and a kidnapping courtesy of an evil madman. Ensnared in the netherrealm by the leader of the dark fae, she discovers that there's even more to her than meets the eye, and the truth behind Kaydair's sixteen-year fixation on her. Meanwhile, hearts and tempers collide as Silas finds a new rival for Claire's affections in the playboy prince, Lander.

-Excerpt-

As if he could read my mind, the grip he had on my neck tightened to the point of becoming bruising. I bit back the cry of shocked pain that threatened to crawl up my throat, unwilling to give him the satisfaction. “Pity. I had hoped that you and I had been able to come to an understanding earlier, My Pet. It is not my wish to treat you as a prisoner.”

“Understanding?” I practically spat the word. “All I understand is that you're an evil, heartless creature who kidnapped me.”

“Kidnapped?” He asked, feigning genuine shock as he turned me around to face him. “As I recall, you came along quite willingly.”

“You and I both know that you left me no real choice in the matter. You think I don't know who you are? What you did to my grandfather?” I seethed at the memory of the story Dad and Edrea had told me about how Kaydair had strategically attempted to take over the western kingdom, murdering my grandfather in the process. “I won't let you fool me the way you did him, so cut the nice guy act, and just tell me what all of this is really about.”

His facial expression never wavered from his mask of amused politeness. “You've inherited your grandmother's sharp mind, I see. A lesser man would find your cleverness problematic, but, as you and I already know, she was no match for me then, and you are no match for me now. As for your part in all of this, My Pet, all will be explained in good time. For now, we both know there is no point in your resistance. You can pass through the portal willingly, or I can... nudge you. The end result will be the same.”

How arrogant could this guy get? A small part of me reluctantly acknowledged that he was right though. One way or another, I was going through this portal tonight. I could either fight him, which had already proven pretty futile with my fledgling skills, or I could bide my time, and cooperate just long enough for him to get careless. When his guard was down, I could make my escape. No matter how much I was spoiling for a chance to take my frustrations out on the arrogant fae that had just managed to subdue me without so much as creasing his cloak, I knew what the smarter option was. I relaxed my hands, causing my fingernails to sink out of his skin, and a satisfied smirk to curve Kaydair's thin lips. I was done fighting... for now.

Hi; I'm Jessica. In a nutshell I'm just a hopeless romantic with a wandering mind and a big imagination who's grateful to God for her gift of storytelling. I've been blessed with a mind and imagination inclined toward all things artistic, so I think a creative career was always meant for me. I've been writing since I was a kid, but I didn't start seriously contemplating becoming an author until I was in college. The idea for this sprawling fantasy series that is now known as The Mythic Chronicles came to me when I was sixteen, and I got so inspired by this little half-formed idea that I wrote my first draft of the story that, 8 years later, became Book 1: Enchanted in about one month.. That first manuscript will never see the light of day because it was pretty terrible, but no worries, My skills have improved a lot since then. If you're up for a sprawling, fantasy series packed with plenty of magic, danger, romance, and adventure, the journey begins with Enchanted: The Mythic Chronicles Book 1. If you have read any of the books in the series, and enjoyed them, don't forget to write a review. Getting feedback from you guys is so rewarding. You can follow me on my various social media platforms (found on the "links" page) to stay in the know. I love hearing from you guys, so feel free to email me at darlingpen2 (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you guys for all your love and support. I love each and every one of you. Welcome to the faemily!
