Haunting – These tomes of terror will stay with you long after you put your book down and go to bed for the evening. They’ve been known to burrow themselves into a reader’s imagination and are capable of warping dreams into twisted, unspeakable nightmares.
Just a little…
Unique – These aren’t your standard horror stories. Don’t think this collection will include tales of haunted mansions, or blood sucking vampires. Expect one-of-a-kind takes on every gothic ghoul and hideous monster you read about in this book.
Just a little…
Frightening – Prepare yourself for some of the most chilling flash fiction ever penned. The mad genius, Vincent V. Cava, has done it again with the latest entry in his creepy catalogue. Do yourself a favor and leave the lights on when you read it.
This collection of flash fiction horror tales isn't bad. It just isn't that good either. Flash fiction, for those that don't know, is very short short stories. The author limited himself to only 1000 words for these tales. The tales are not badly written, but most of them are just not original. They are tales that have been told before, or at least ones very similar to them have been told. If they aren't old material than they just weren't scary.
While I didn't find anything really memorable or outstanding in this volume, it was well written. Therefore, I would consider reading more writings by the author. But I would probably go with longer works where he could make the story more of his own. I would rate the collection 2.65 stars.
I gave this book 3 stars because although the description would lead you to believe that the book was terrifying or scary it wasnt. The stories were good and i enjoyed most of them they just were not scary.
Not really my thing at all. I've never read any flash fiction before. The author mentions why he writes them, but I don;t think the super-short story is for me. just not enough to get into. That said, I did enjoy he very first story, but then found the others all followed too similar a structure, short setup then twist in final sentence or so. Maybe this is just what flash-fiction is?
I loved that these stories were quite short but had enough information to make the story seem complete. Most of the stories had last minute, very surprising endings. A few had endings that you might realize a paragraph before the end. There were only 2 stories that I didn't care for. They were "What Would You Do?" and "She Knew". I feel the rest were exception and there were about 18 or 20 stories. I recommend this book which I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the two that I didn't like. They were very short.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a quick read with stories that are short but packed with great horror. Surprisingly well written also. Some actually have a little bit of humor in them. I actually laughed out loud at a couple. Makes me wonder how demented I am lol. But seriously if you enjoy good short horror stories this is a gem.
A few of these definitely creeped me out!! Super short stories, read in under two minutes a piece. Each one gave me chills however I wish it wasn't a mix of murder and paranormal stories. That's why I'm giving it three stars, keep them separate.
A few legitimate scares, but the stories are clearly being written with an eye towards brevity instead of the author letting them reach honest conclusions. The clear stand-out is "It Was Ellen's Face", which is both brief and a complete narrative.
Great to read short stories, all less than 1000 words. There are really some crackers in there and the ones that aren’t, are brilliant all the same. Really enjoyed reading this.
This is my first time reading a collection of flash fiction horror tales. I liked it it was pretty good and they are short, some needed to be longer others were pretty good the way it ended. I would be looking forward to reading more of this author.
This is the first book of flash fiction I have read, there was a mix of stories. I like the concept of flash fiction, but can only read it in certain circumstances.
I really enjoyed this, which surpriaed me as o usually struggle with short stories. But this flash fiction anthology was just right. my favourites were Grave Digger, The Stranger's Debt and A Novice Killer.
A unique collection of stories. Some were good, others were outstanding and very original. Creepy. Gross. Shocking. Disturbing. Lovely writing and a fast pace tied the stories together nicely.
