Sheyda is a behind-the-scenes girl. She loves helping out in the kitchen of Doughlicious, the New York City donut shop run by the parents of her best friend Kiri. And Sheyda loves designing stage sets while Kiri performs in the spotlight.
Then lights, camera... surprise! Tween heartthrob Cabe Sadler is filming his next big movie in Doughlicious! Kiri is sure this will lead to stardom... and perhaps even a date with Cabe. But somehow it's Sheyda who gets to picked for a small part in the movie.
To make matters worse, Cabe is spoiled and rude. Too bad he's so cute. Can Sheyda overcome her stage fright to get to know the real Cabe... and find her own kind of stardom?
When she was in kindergarten, Suzanne Nelson jotted down in a school keepsake album that she wanted to be a “riter.” Though she clearly had issues with spelling, she persisted, composing cryptic poems about rainbows, fairies, mud, and even "Star Wars" in spiral notebooks all through elementary school. When she was seventeen, she filled four journals with her handwritten first novel, titled “The Dream Keeper.” To escape her chores, she often lied to her parents about what time her shift started at the local fast food joint so that she could spend an extra hour writing in the parking lot in her mom’s faded Buick. Her first published novel was The Sound of Munich, followed by Heart and Salsa, The Ghoul Next Door, Cake Pop Crush, and Dead in the Water. She is a shameless fan of “The Sound of Music,” Hershey’s kisses, Charlotte Bronte, and Jane Austen, and can often be caught daydreaming of romping about gothic castles in lovely Victorian gowns. She was born in New Jersey, grew up in Southern California, attended college in Texas, and spent eight years as a children’s book editor in New York City. She now lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut with her family.
I really liked this book! It was so good and easy to know what was going on. Sheyda's passion is to design sets for plays while also helping out in her best friends doughnut shop. But when the celebrity Cabe Sadler comes to town she is in love! Sheyda gets picked for a role in the film Cabe is making. Soon she finds out her love is a spoiled brat.
Great message, and Cabe was a total sweetheart. I liked the main character’s interest in set design and how she could be herself with Cabe. Kiri was a terrible friend for most of the book, but I liked how Sheyda overcame her shyness and was able to stand up to her. A perfect Valentine’s Day middle grade read.

awwww .. that was such a cute story, although I don't like donuts but this gave me such a good feeling that I'm almost convinced to try one :) So the story is about Shayda who lives an introverted life under the shadow of her sister and her friend, but everything changes when she got cast as a supporting actress in the upcoming hit movie "Donut Go Breaking My Heart " and the problem is, the leading actor is a obnoxious Cabe, can they get along ?
this was so cute and I'm so glad that I'm reading this series :)
2019 Adorable little romance between Sheyda and Cabe. Sheyda is much more comfortable building sets than being on them, but she accidentally gets cast in a movie with Cabe. Cabe, is a big time teen heartthrob and the only person he hadn't managed to charm is Sheyda (at least at first). It's really cute to watch them interact, become friends, and eventually fall in love.
Donut Go Breaking My Heart is a book about a girl named Sheyda and her friend Kiri. She works at this donut shop called Doughlicious. Doughlicious is a place where Sheyda can calm down. Sheyda and Kiri are opposites, when it comes to spotlight. Sheyda likes to stay out of the spotlight, and behind the curtains. While Kiri is the type of girl that likes to be in the spotlight. Then this ANNOYINGLY cute famous boy named Cabe comes along, and instead of choosing Kiri to be in his movie he chooses her! And they have to shoot the movie in Doughlicious, her peaceful place! Not even that but, she now has to get over her stage fright! But turns out to be an interesting moment at the end!
You know what you're going to get every time and you love it every time especially if you've been invested five books deep.
Is it super cheesy? Of course and that's exactly why readers love them (myself included). I want to own a donut shop by Doughlicious but I never want to ask. I love that there seems to be a smidge more contemporariness to the stories in terms of diversity of characters (Iranian and Cambodian main character friends) as well as Instagram making an appearance.
What you see is what you get and it's delightful (sealed with a kiss).
Cute read:) hated Kiri tho... and idk whether it's just me not having lived in LA to have that paparazzi experience but that whole thing kinda put me off... but I loved Sheyda and her sister - and pitied Cabe or Caleb... but yeah...
OMG this book was amazing! I enjoyed it so much, the characters all had a interesting personality and because of that the book had alot of twists and turns.
I liked this book. It was about a girl who hates being on camera but she got into a movie with a really famous boy. She gets into a lot of fights with the boy until they went on a walk and had a lot of fun then a news reporter gets a picture of them running an holding hands but they are actually running away from something dangerous. The news paper picture gets out everywhere and everyone is trying to find out who is Cabe Sadlers mystery girl
I really liked this book. Even though it was corny like the rest of her books, it was still fun to read. I really like the Wish series. It is a combination of books from different authors. I like reading the Wendy Mass books and Suzan Nelson books. They are very similar. If you like one of the authors you will like the other. I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a corny book. I also enjoyed the baking recipes related in the book in the back of the book.
Donut go breaking my heart is a good book. Before I start saying anything else the main characters are Sheyda[main character], Kiri [Sheydas best friend], and Cabe Sadler. I liked this book because I liked how Sheyda and Cabe didn't like each other but got along sometimes. Sheyda always hangs out with her friend Kiri which reminds me of me and my friends when we always hang out. I also liked it because even though Sheyda and Cabe didn't get along they were still friends. I would also recommend this book to others. Its gets more interesting but if you want to read more about it you should get the book.
this book is about a girl who works at a donut shop and this celeb needs a place to shot there movie so they chose the donut shop that she works at and there would be tryouts and her best friend wanted to try out sheyda drop donuts on the celeb and he got mad and then when they were at school he was sitting where she usally sat so he got mad that she saw him and so after all that there was the tryouts for the movie and sheydas best friend kiri did not get the spot and sheyda did not want to try out but sheyda got the job anyways and then cabe and sheyda got to know each other and then sheyda thought that cabe liked her best friend so she got mad a t him and he asked her to go to the premeire with him
i loved this book! Sheyda, the main character, works in a donut shop with her best friend, Kiri. When Sheyda unknowingly spills donuts on Cabe Sadler, a celebrity, he makes her an enemy. When Cabe’s manager tells the girls about auditions for their new movie, Donut Go Breaking My Heart , Kiri begs Sheyda to come along for emotional support. After Cabe gives Sheyda an attitude, Sheyda blows up and storms out. Will Sheyda’s blow up affect Kiri’s audition? Find out in Donut Go Breaking My Heart!

Sheyda loves helping out at Doughlicious, the donut shop owned by her best friend Kiri's parents. But her passion is stage design; her plan is to apply for the NYU summer drama program, but she has yet to find inspiration for a new set model that's required for the application. Then unexpectedly over winter break, some Hollywood people are interested in using the donut shop as the filming location for teen superstar Cabe Sadler's new movie, Donut Go Breaking My Heart. Kiri is over the moon about it, but Sheyda, not so much because she thinks Cabe is incredibly rude and phony. But when Sheyda is picked for a part in the movie, she'd rather stay behind the scenes than be the center of attention. I liked the character of Sheyda and could identify with her having a passion for something but never having time to do what you love, also her shyness and not speaking up for herself. I found her best friend Kiri to be a bit annoying; it seemed like she was more interested in being near Cabe than encouraging Sheyda. As for Cabe, he became more likeable as the story progressed, confiding in Sheyda about the realities of being a teenaged superstar. I loved this book, so much so I was rooting for Sheyda and Cabe! This story will for certain have you wishing for donuts!
I've read this book 3 times! It is SO good. I love how she made the story about love and food, what could possibly be better? This was the very first book I read by her and I now own most of that specific series. Just have to read Hot Cocoa Hearts really excited to start reading it. Definitely going to be reading more of Suzanne Nelson.
Cute read:) hated Kiri tho... and idk whether it's just me not having lived in LA to have that paparazzi experience but that whole thing kinda put me off... but I loved Sheyda and her sister - and pitied Cabe or Caleb... but yeah...
Again cheesy for most *cough* Tatianna *cough*, but i thought it was amazing quick read. I have a copy so I read about every year. Love the mention of the beautiful Ventura County.
This was such a cute read! It looks like a fluffy piece that's cute for young girls, but seriously, this deals with lots of issues very well. To start with, our heroine is a shy, ambitious, third generation immigrant on BOTH sides. (Her grandparents from one side were from Persia, I think and her other grandparents were from Iran - anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!) Her best friend's mom is a second-gen immigrant from Cambodia, too, so we see diversity in our characters RIGHT away. I love all the little details that get thrown in about it, too - the cookies Sheyda likes, the way their apartment is decorated, the food she mentions (ya'll, if you didn't know, I'm a foodie and this book made me want to eat everything listed in it). Secondly, Sheyda deals with a lot of issues that even an older person like me can appreciate. She deals with the struggle of being honest, of standing up for herself while being kind about it, handling her best friend's feelings along with her own, feeling overshadowed by her sister, and something I deeply related to, feeling nothing more than "boring" and "ordinary." Seeing how she handled it all was inspiring to me. She got a happy ending because she worked for it, by golly. Thirdly, even though I didn't quite understand the appeal of Cabe (he made too drastic a switch between jerk and less-jerk), I did appreciate the struggles he went through, as well. Thrown into situations that he didn't necessarily want, he had to decide what he wanted and how to manage fame, even being as young as he is. I don't remember their ages exactly, but I know they were young. This was an issue for me since I don't love the idea of middle-schoolers in relationships. The story, however, was great. If they were older, I would have enjoyed it even more. And the happy ending wasn't just focused on romance or anything - it was about the accomplishments and growth that Sheyda (and the whole cast, actually) had gained. Overall, a great, well-thought-out story that's hidden amongst a cheesy idea. Worth the read for sure!
{My thoughts} – Sheyda is definitely the kind of character in a book I’d love for my own children to idolize. I think she is brilliantly written and because of that, I absolutely loved reading this book. She’s this sweet awkward girl that has to discover who she is before she can become who she really is deep down inside. She’s a people pleaser and extremely shy when it comes to needing to speak her mind. She does everything she can to lessen the burden of parenting on her parents since her sister chooses to be a rebel and cause a lot of trouble on a regular basis. She lets people more or less walk all over her throughout most of the book, but eventually she finds her voice.
The part where she finds her voice is what I think makes her an incredible role model for children. She shows that just because she is able to make it through day upon day trying to make sure everyone is happy but herself, doesn’t mean that she isn’t hurting inside, it doesn’t mean that things don’t bother her, and it doesn’t mean that she isn’t overwhelmed. Eventually, once she finds her voice she makes all these things known and she does it in such a way that it just leaves you thinking how incredibly awesome she is for all she does.
Her best friend isn’t really much of a best friend through most of the book. It eventually comes down to friendship or a boy. Which direction does it go? I don’t know, it looks like you’ll need to read the book to find out. The boy in question is Cabe, he’s a teen heartthrob and he is shooting a new movie at the donut shop that both girls work. Does he have the power to break or save the friendship between these two girls?
I really liked reading this book. It was a light read and it was a fun read at the same time. I really thank that any young twee/ teen would be able to enjoy this book and that it would make a great addition to their bookshelf.
It took me a while to get started on this one but I have to say, I'm very impressed! I didn't expect this book to draw me in the way it did. First of all, I love the 'celebrity meets regular person & falls in love' trope and this book features it prominently. We get a glimpse of what it's like working on a movie set through the eyes of Sheyda, an introvert swept into the world of glitz and glamour when she ends up starring alongside Cabe Sadler, teenage celebrity.
The chemistry between Sheyda and Cabe was amazing, right from their first not-so-pleasant encounter. They both grew in their own way after meeting each other - Sheyda learned to stand up for herself and Cabe knew when to let down his guard. In fact, they were the ones to help each other discover a new side to themselves. You can't deny the spark between them and their first kiss sealed the deal. I was totally rooting for this sweet, wholesome and deliciously-awkward couple!
The side characters were brilliantly written. I liked Mina's defensive streak and Sheyda's Persian heritage was a nice touch. The only downside was Kiri. I couldn't stand her for the most part and being Sheyda's best friend since preschool doesn't discount the fact that Kiri treated her horribly. Sheyda doesn't deserve that sort of toxicity and apologizing just doesn't make up for it.
I would recommend this to middle grade readers who are transitioning into YA and looking for their first taste of the romance genre. A solid 4-4.5 stars!
"Donut Go Breaking My Heart" was a good book, and I really liked reading it. The main character, Sheyda, works at a doughnut shop in New York City with her best friend, Kiri and is also a set designer. Kiri does not enjoy making doughnuts or working there. Kiri's mom owns the doughnut shop and is constantly comparing her to Sheyda, who loves working at the shop. Instead of making doughnuts, Kiri wants to be an actress. When Sheyda continues to make plans instead of work on her set model for school, she becomes stressed. Kiri finds out that celebrity Cabe Sadler, will be shooting a movie in the doughnut shop and starts freaking out. Kiri loves Cabe, but Sheyda has no idea who he is. When the girls first meet Cabe, Kiri doesn't want to leave his side, but Sheyda finds him rude. At the auditions for the movie, Kiri is trying to flirt with Cabe, instead of being his friend. Sheyda accidentally gets picked for the role instead of Kiri, and Cabe and Sheyda become closer. Kiri starts getting jealous, and Sheyda is getting annoyed with Kiri. With the "Very Valentine" movie premiere coming soon, both of the girls want to be asked by Cabe. This was a very good book, and I recommend it.
Out of all the food romance stories, this one has always been my favorite. I can't really describe why, but I will say that I feel bad if Sheyda.
Sheyda's life seems pretty difficult, with her not wanting to open up to anyone, her parents forgetting about her half the time, Mina not being her old self, etc. It pretty much describes an "invisible" person, which isn't that good if you think about it.
And I also really hated her friendship with Kiri. Kiri seemed really toxic and fake and always tried to manipulate Sheyda into doing stuff she didn't want to do. There is definitely a chance that Kiri could become a better friend, though.
But I haven't even discussed Cabe yet. HE WAS SO RUDE TO SHEYDA BUT AS THE CHAPTERS KEEP GOING SHE STARTS TO CARE LESS! Oh well. It makes sense, since this is supposed to be a kid friendly romance story. The rude guy always becomes the good guy.
I will admit that Cabe's idea about Sheyda "teaching" him how to make donuts so that they had a scene for the movie was pretty clever. But that doesn't mean I like his character-
Welp, I'll always enjoy this series, even if half the time I go into rage mode over the cUtE bOy ChArAcTeRs 👁👄👁

I will admit......I only read this because of a goodreads challenge but I ended up really, really, really liking it. Yes, it was a chessey story that I felt could be Hallmarks first Young Adult movie but it was a great, happy read.
I loved Sheyda and Cabe. I felt those two had the largest character development throughout the book and it was great to see how each of the characters changed. However, I HATED/DISLIKED Kiri for majority of the book. It was not until the end of the book that I kinda liked her. For me and Kiri it's a love/hate relationship.
Going into this book I was scared that I would be lost because I have not read the first four books in the Wish Series therefore I felt I would be lost but I wasn't. Which made me up. And I plan on checking out several other books written by Suzanne Nelson.
Overall, this was a great book and if you want a happy, easy to read book this book is for you.
I absolutely loved this book. It had a little bit of romance which is my type of style. I also love sheydas personality because it's a little like mine. I never want to make people sad, but like anyone, you can only take so much. Kiri although, I dont like her choices more than less. She used a movie star to try and find fame, and like sheyda said, she should rely on her own self to find fame because it just makes her look like a bad person. But it also makes the story unique. As for cabe, I understand his stress. Sometimes you cant find yourself cause your wrapped up like a sandwich and it takes some time to get out. As for Sheydas parents and mina, Sheydas parents are very kind, but are very busy with mina. Mina is very um, interesting. Shes a trouble maker and its troubling for sheyda and their sistership.Overall if I had to change one thing, I would change kiri even going to the movie. 5/5 📚

Suzanne Nelson is truly amazing. I've read most of her books and like i said, unbelievable my friend. When I read this book, I thought, "Hey, this might be a good book to read because it includes teen drama (love it!), celebrities, and family matters." Then I a c t u a l l y read it and WHABAM. i read it two more times after that because Sheyda's life sounded so interesting when she got the role to play in a movie (SPOILER ALERT! *though i actually don't know if this is actually a spoiler but there ya go.*)
This is a sweet read about Sheyda and her friend Kiri who aspires to be an actress and has a huge crush on actor Cabe. As the two girls both get to be close to Cabe they soon find themselves changing feelings about him and acting too as well as finding out just how much their friendship can survive and adapt through it all as the donut shop is the base for his new film to be filmed at.
This was a fun sweet read again a bit cliche but that doesn't stop or take away from the joy of the story as we see the girls crush and fall for Cabe as things develop in unexpected ways!
