My son loves the show so when my husband found this book at Target, we knew we had to get it. I was reading a different book for bedtime today, looked over, and my son was holding this book, waiting. When I was done, he passed this over and said, "I want read Daniel Tiger stories." He's turning 3 at the end of the summer.
If you're familiar with the show, the stories are a more condensed version of the episodes. Gives the basics of what lesson Daniel is going to learn, and puts the little songs in italics. For those who have seen the show, the italics help for the purpose of singing the lessons that your little one is supposed to pay attention to. It makes my son's eyes go wide and he smiles when I manage to sing the songs when I read the stories.
For anyone with kids under 5, this is a book with little stories to help children learn methods to deal with things like fear of visiting the doctor, understanding bedtime routines, and dealing with new sibling dynamics. The show is available for purchase to stream if you want to expose your children to something similar to Sesame Street, as this an offshoot of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, but I think it's better able to hold toddler attention, like Sesame Street can.
Looking for more Daniel Tiger stories now that can be added to bedtime. Gotta keep the tiny human who runs my household happy.
Confession time. I can't stand Daniel Tiger or his neighborhood. He's so preachy and every little thing he does has some catchy jingle that's annoying. But my child loves the tv series therefore the books based on the series. We end up reading these even though it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. If your child or secretly you watch the television series, these stories will be familiar to you. Many of them are taken verbatim from the television series which is not a bad thing. It helps early readers because they're already familiar with the story so they can read the book a lot faster. Elementary school teachers say to have children read what they like. There are a variety of stories here teaching children all sorts of values. Daniel goes to the doctor where he learns not to be afraid of medical visits. He visits Prince Wednesday at the castle where he makes a new friend who has a disability. Daniel has a friend over where they learn to try a new food for dinner. All good things. Overall, it's a decent collection of stories that would be perfect for a first grade to early second grade reader.
My little niece loves-LOVES-Daniel Tiger and everyone in his neighborhood. So when I saw this at Barnes & Noble, of course I had to get it for her. The stories go along to the episodes of the show (yes, I've watched it with her enough times to know each episode) and even feature the annoyingly catchy jingles. They're shorter than the episodes, of course, and are good for bedtime stories or when you have a few extra minutes (unless your kid is my niece, the five minute portion might turn into ten or fifteen minutes).
Not a favorite in our house, but still cute and has some good lessons. Some kids absolutely love Daniel Tiger, especially as a spin off from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I can see why, even if it wasn't such a big hit in our house. Story list includes:
Goodnight, Daniel Tiger Daniel Goes to School Daniel's New Friend Daniel Visits the Doctor Daniel Tries a New Food Daniel's First Sleepover You Are Special, Daniel Tiger! The Baby Is Here! Daniel Goes to the Playground Daniel's First Fireworks Daniel's Winter Adventure Nighttime in the Neighborhood

This is a great selection of stories from the show -- might be actual episodes but I'm not 100% sure on that. Ozman has been wanting to read them time and time again. His favorites are the ones with Baby Margaret...too bad he is an only child. I like these because they go over situations preschoolers might encounter and since he's not in school I've been trying to prep him to remember how to interact with other kids when he theoretically goes back to school in September.
Daniel Tiger was the very first television show my daughter ever watched (and she loved it). There are 8-10 five minute versions of episodes in this book, keeping the full story and including the lesson jingle as well. If your child loves the show, I definitely recommend this. I keep trying with that "You gotta try new foods cause they might taste good!" lesson, to no avail. The kids on Daniel Tiger are so much easier to talk into compliance than my kid is!
I have read this book through at least 5 times since we gave it to my 2 year old for her birthday last month. It runs through some of the episodes of the show but it is easier to talk to her about feelings and what will happen next without the distraction of the television. I will be on the lookout for more 5 minute story books as she gets interested in other characters.
My daughter loved us talking turns reading these short stories. Daniel Tiger , like Mr.Rogers , has great lessons. I first read these to her over a year ago, it was a wonderful pleasure, that today, we took turns reading to each other. We will definitely read together many more times.
We love all of the DT 5 minute and 3 minute stories. They are all stories from episodes of DT. These are pretty much one of the only 5 minute stories we like!
Daniel tiger sings little jingles about everything and I don’t know what they’re supposed to sound like so I put on a brave face and sing something different every time.
Really sweet, inspirational stories. My daughter and I love reading them together. His parents set impossible parenting standards but the stories resonate with my daughter and it drew us closer reading them so that’s why it gets 5 stars.
