DNF'd because of the heroine being the pursuer. Not only asking the hero out first, but while working in his house, waiting on the father to die of cancer. I could see a spontaneous hookup due to bonding over a tragedy, but making dates while doing in home hospice? That was just weird to me. I need my alphas to actually be alphas, and the heroine to have a better sense of timing. It made the heroine almost seem predatory as a care giver. I was enjoying it until that moment.
One book was ok, the heroine was a private duty nurse, who's patient had terminal cancer. His son was in denial. The dad before he passed managed to get the two together. Book 2 was horrible.
The first book about Sonya and Philip and Ray will grab at your heartstrings and make you she'd a tear or two. You don't find many romance books tackling death in such a tender, realistic, yet loving way and manage to weave in a sweet love story in a way that flows and is totally believable. This author managed to do that seamlessly and beautifully. For once we have a story that isn't about money, sex and constant drama. This story was about real life and real emotions and it moved me. I loved it!
The second story - what can I say...I've read so many like it before and really had no interest in it. I read it anyway and it was a complete turn off.
If I could give a 4.5 rating I would, and it would only be for the first book. I wish the author had written an epilogue for the first book. I would have liked to know more about Sonya and Philip - where did she end up working? Did she move in with Philip? Did they get married and have kids?? Anyhoo, the first book is a great read.
A Love in a Hopeless Place. I received this book as an ARC member in return for an honest review. I enjoyed this book truly! I found myself crying through this book. It was such a touching story of how someone takes care of a person dying of cancer. Sonya was an inspiration to the nursing world. I don't know if I could have done that type of job. She also had to deal with Ray's family meaning his non-visiable son who thought work was more important than taking care of his dad. Sonya gave him the riot act and he changed his mind. Ray pushed Sonya into seeing his son as just a man she could date. And they went on that date only to start feeling for each other. Ray was happy and found his peace and past away. Sonya and Philip were devastated. It seemed like Phillip had moved on out of Sonya's life which she couldn't bare. But Phillip realized he could not live without Sonya. Very touching story to read!
This was an OK story. This was my first read by this author. It flowed well. I don't typically read the surrogate genre. The few I have read were stereotypical this one at least didn't have an inheritance clause. I found myself annoyed by Lateisha she had no goals so she decided to be a surrogate. So farfetched. Bryce wanted a child but not a relationship because he didn't have time. So he was going to have time for a child??? Come on now
