Debra Burroughs writes with intensity and power. Her characters are rich and the stories are full of compelling suspense and real romance. She can be found, most days, sitting in front of her computer in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, dreaming up and writing about strong women, their relationships with men (good and bad), involved in exciting, mysterious, and romantic situations.
Debra Burroughs Books are OUTSTANDING!! This is the 7th book in the Paradise Valley Mystery Series. I Love the characters. They are so relatable. I would SO love to be in this circle of friendship. In this book Camille is wanting to enlarge her business, and this place would be an Amazing place. Her husband Jonathan is not in favor, when it looks like there is something illegal going on in the warehouse. Jonathan goes to Hollis (the owner who wants to sell), to talk. Later that night Hollis ends up dead and the main suspect is none other than Jonathan. Alex, acting as Jonathan's lawyer hires Emily to work with him to find out the truth. They all are sure that he is innocent, but Colin being a policeman needs proof. Can Collin and his new wife Emily work together on this case or will this case tear them apart? Love this series and hope that there will be more!!
NY, NYC. Central Park. Emily Andrews (wife, PI, nee Parker) & Detective Colin Andrews (husband, Paradise Valley PD) were enjoying their honeymoon. Paradise Valley, ID. Camille Hawthorne (wife, caterer/event planner) had come to tell Emily, Mrs. Francine Beckham (wife/mother) had been murdered in Seattle, WA. Hollis Beckham (husband/father, Stanford U) had been murdered also.
Sergeant Ernie Kaufmann greeted Detective Andrews at the crime scene. Officer Sanchez was looking after Elise Beckham (daughter). It seems Jonathan Hawthorne (Camille’s husband) is a person of interest. Seattle, WA. Oliver’s restaurant. Emily & Detective Andrews met with Detective Ryan Wilson & Peter McKenzie.
Detective Colin Andrews was interrogating Eric Kinsella (drug trafficker) with his lawyer present.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written whodunit murder mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; Lake House Books; Amazon Digital Services LLC.; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
I skipped books five and six. I tried of the same angst over and over. I liked the characters loyalty and commitment to the friendships but it was the same thing about Emily not being able to trust because of Evan and Colin not being able to handle her taking risks. Colin really disappointed in not believing Jonathan after expecting every one to believe him with more proof against him. And Camille going for a dirty business no matter what because it was her dream, even risking her marriage. Delia has the same type business, how could that be? Where did the mayor go? What about the files? All the past story lines are dropped and forgotten except the "I can't trust anyone" but I can fall deeply in love after only six months, plus I don't know that lawyers defend guilty clients, I can't help my friends or love until I KNOW they are innocent no matter what they say. Everybody lies to me. Too many dropped threads.
This crime drama pits friends against each other as Detective Colin Andrews tries to solve the murder of a local businessman. The prime suspect is a close friend of both Colin and his wife Emily causing a lot of friction in the newlyweds' lives. As a private detective, Emily works hard to prove that her best friend's husband Jonathan did not commit the murder. The tension between friends could be cut with a knife as Colin keeps digging and uncovers more information about the murder.
This story is gripping suspense from beginning to end with a cast of characters who really care about and support each other.
Interesting, intriguing, both are working on a case, she wants to find evidence to clear Jonathan and he to find to convict him. The dream of his wife, Jonathan didn’t want to go thru with the deal. Murder happened, the weapon is unusual, too many players that might be guilty. The why’s could be an old love, that was never forgotten, parents, expectations, revenge, the list is long. The plot flows with tension, you wonder if the newlyweds, will survive, being on opposites sides, they make an agreement Readers will love getting to know Emily and Colin’s and their frends. Looking for more by Debra.
I'm sure others might disagree with this, but there was just something missing in this 7th book in the series. I had read the previous six and gave them five stars. This was ok, but not as compelling as the earlier ones. Can't really say really what didn't click, but the extremely sensitive touchiness maybe from Emily when she objected to how her new husband had to keep things from her in order to do his own job properly, not sure, but it was still fairly entertaining. I just expected more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. I want to go back and read the first six books to catch up on the story line. What a twisted mystery. The story line kept you on your toes. I figured out half way through who the key players were in the murders. The book is so well written that I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. There were so many twist and turns that held my interest. I already knew who committed the crimes but I needed to know why and what enrolment each player played and why.
I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. The stories have just the right balance of mystery and romance. Emily, the heroine, and ,Colin make a pair of investigators that can't be beat. My recommendation would be that in order to fully follow the story development, read the series in order. Thanks to Ms. Burroughs for many hours of enjoyment reading.
Colin and Emily are a terrific team/ hero and heroine! There's enough romance to warm your heart, but its nice and clean. The group dynamic among the friends is really fun. I easily figured out the "who dunnit" early , but I usually do. It was a well written mystery and sweet love story. I look forward to reading !ore by this author.
I received Scent of Lies in a free Amazon Kindle try. I was amazed by this talented author! This story was so good I read them all sequential order. I'm anxiously awaiting the next one which by my count should be mainly about either Isabel or Alex! Mrs. Burroughs if you are reading this, I would love to be considered as an ARC reader for you :-)
I've really enjoyed reading all of these books. I wanted to wait until I finished them to write a review. I'd love to see this series continue...I'm going to miss all the characters and would love to see Emily and Colin become parents and Maggie and Peter get their HEA.
Burroughs characters are well thought out and real life funny. Colin is a detective and his wife Emily is a PI. They find themselves on opposing sides of a case with friends in the middle. Good, clean murder/mystery reading!
This is a great series. I really wish there were more books in this series. I hope there will be more . This is a very good mystery thriller. I highly recommend this book and series.
Love the way Debra combines romance and murder. Great plot, wonderful, sexy major characters who solve murders and bring romance without unnecessary bedroom scenes. Clean and well developed plot that kept me engrossed til the end.
I give all 8 books a 5* rating because I couldn't wait to finish one so I could start the next one. Emily and Colin along with Emily's group of friends kept me engaged throughout the series. I sincerely hope there will be additional books with these characters.
There’s been a murder!!! What a way to upset a wedding reception!!! And then you have the drugs, how are you forced to sell drugs??? And then – whops. I have already given too much away. I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
The mystery of this book was a step up from the previous books. The ease of Emily's dismissal of her first husband's return and subsequent loss at sea was a bit disconcerting, cold even. Cagey appeared to be the adjective of choice in the first part of the book.
I am new to this author. However her writing style. How she makes the reader become vested I the group of family is amazing. I will continue to read this authors series.
This was a good read. Plenty of suspects, plenty of motives. Excellent plot and well woven together. This was a great, fun read. Grab it and it will grab you back.
An okay read, not emotionally challenging at all. Please see my other reviews of books in this series. By the time I got to this book all freebies through bookbub, I was very bored.
Romance and crime combine to make this book exciting and fast paced without the details of sex. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick entertaining read.
I love this series. I hope there will be more books. I want to see Emily, Colin and the rest of the gang to have more adventures. I also hope to see Emily and Colin have a family.
This was an easy read, a nice mystery even if I did figure it out half way in. Not my favorite Debra Burroughs book, but still entertaining and enjoyable.
