"An author who has remained on my 'must-buy' list for years." --Romance Reviews Today
"There should be a notice on her books: For a really GOOD time, read Stephanie Bond!" --America Online Romance Fiction Forum
USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.
Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.
In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,
Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.
There were parts that made a frog appear in my throat and something liquid was coming out of my eyes! lol. They were the parts when family began confessing to her about how much she meant to them. It was kind of like they were resigned and telling her goodbye.
This is part 5 of 6 part daily serial, part five is the month of November.
Loving the concept of this daily serial, a girl in a coma after an unfortunate traffic accident, able to hear all the conversations of family, friends, police, doctors, medical staff & anyone else that decides to visit, without any of them realising that she can hear everything.
I’m still enjoying this serial, interesting, funny in places and as it with the previous parts, we get another shocker of an ending/cliffhanger which makes you just want to get straight to reading the next part immediately. I can’t believe this serial is nearly ended, you can tell though as the author is starting to tie things up, bring some things to a conclusion and getting things ready for the final part of the serial.
So with that said, I’m heading straight into part 6 which is the month of December and the last part to this daily serial.
I really love this series. This is the best one yet! Too bad I have to wait another month for the last one to come out. I highly recommend this series!
In A Nutshell:Marigold Kemp is in a coma following a car crash. Marigold can hear, but nobody knows that for sure. So, it leads to a fantastic cast of characters including her dysfunctional family, crazy friends, members of the justice system and hospital staff letting their emotional guard down. You will laugh, perhaps shed a tear, but Coma Girl will enthral readers. Clever, funny and thought-provoking.
The Protagonist(s):Marigold Kemp is the middle child in a family of three. And so in many ways, Marigold appears the forgotten child. Her elder brother is a war hero and her younger sister the brain box. Written in the first person, Marigold aka Coma Girl gets to hear all sorts of secrets and confessions which she processes with dry humour.
I have covered Coma Girl 1 -5 in this review. The stories are so addictive I just had to keep on going. The story begins with Marigold hospitalized following a car accident that led to severe head trauma and her coma. The book is in the style of diary entries and starts on 1 July. There are plenty of twists and laughs in every entry.
Over the course of six months, Marigold becomes the social media sensation Coma Girl. And that brings additional pressure to Marigold's case and the other patients in the 'vegetable patch' which is what some hospital workers call the coma ward.
Readers will meet the detective Jack Terry who is investigating her case. And the head-on collision involving NFL star player Keith Young is not all it seems. There is the dedication of Dr. Jarvis, and the ethical lines one will's the professionals to cross. And some people are just so dang frustrating. Grrr. And others like Marigold's mum and sister are callous at times.
But there is plenty of humour, provided by Coma Girl, her wonderful aunt Winnie and Roberta, the best friend. There are also quirky characters like Sister Irene. All of them make for witty dialogue.
Coma Girl is a novel concept that might sound boring but is anything but! Highly recommended

>Book Review – Coma Girl >I am an independent reviewer. These books are a 6 part serial that ends in an HEA. Marigold is mentally alert, but stuck in a coma. As she gets visitors, they begin to unburden themselves and she learns TMI about her entire family, friends and even strangers. The story is both heartwarming and heart breaking. There is an unusual amount of humor, especially with Marigold’s aunt Winnie and her wanna be psychic friend who is more miss than hit. >The book also highlights the kindness of strangers. There is a little girl, especially, who seems to know exactly when Marigold needs a little mental pick-me-up. There are also instances of incredible cruelty, as some hospital workers refer to Marigold’s room and roommates as the “vegetable patch”. >Social media takes off, creating an internet sensation with “Coma Girl”. Along with all of this attention, the reality of the crazies really is quite scary. The scenes where Marigold attempts to communicate were poignant. The whole experience creates a new outlook for Marigold, as secrets are revealed. I had a different HEA in mind for her, though. >These books are appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the serial 5 stars. The story is a quick read and so very entertaining.
Coma Girl is a 6 part serial following Marigold Kemp as she tries to recover from a serious head injury caused by a car accident. Marigold has visitors who aren't certain that they can be heard, so the interactions with her in a vegetative state is...interesting.
I really enjoyed the concept of this serial. Each installment was a month in the ward. The things Marigold became a witness to were sometimes heartbreaking but many times hilarious. I found this story entertaining and refreshing. It was also interesting that there was little if any description for the characters, so it allowed my imagination to run wild. Cool concept. Maybe offer a boxset??
What a chockfull of reveals! Gabriel the orderly/thief is caught by Roberta, who is also a kleptomaniac / thief also, Duncan professes his love for Marigold, Sidney admits in all the chaos she was driving the car, her Mom revealed her infidelity and Sidney’s true dad, her bro Alex was dyslexic but learned to read from her letters. So the only loose ends are Poetry Man’s identity and her tell all manuscript and what happened to Audrey??
Loved reading Part 5!! Communication is the key in life!!
I haven't been this riveted to a storyline in a very long long time. I'm binging the parts of this serial one right after the other, all in the same day! Just when I say I'll take a break after this one, I come to the end and BAM! I get sucked in by a cliffhanger and have to start the next one. I'm now going into the last part and can't wait to see what happens! I know from how the last one ended that this one is going to be a goodie!!!
I love Stephanie Bonds stories. When I saw Coma Girl I though, how can she possibly writer 6 Short books on this subject..Not only did she do it but kept it interesting, exciting, and humerous to the point I would laugh out loud. This is a great series and I couldn't put it down. I've enjoyed her other books but this was even better and though provoking. Exellent!!!
Four and a half stars to five stars for this delightful book, the next to last in the series. The series just keeps getting better. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You wont be disappointed.
This serial has such a unique view. The characters are wonderful to read. I love the writing. Just a bit long for me but I can't wait to read the ending!
I absolutely love this series...the story of "Coma Girl" really makes you think about what goes on in the world around you when people think you aren't listening. Can't wait for the final Part 6!
I'm getting nothing done but this story is worth it. Part 5 of the Coma Girl series doesn't disappoint. One more to go and I'll finally get to know how it all turns out.
Omg she woke up. I was expecting it to go differently. I don't know what I was expecting but I was kinda surprised and scared for her at the same time. Now to handle the fallout.
We are almost at the end, I am both excited and bummed out. Excited because I can't wait to see what happens with Marigold and everyone else. Bummed because I don't want the serial to end.
Coma Girl by Stephanie Bond (part 5) opens on the first of November and closes on the 30th. Somewhere in there is a US Presidential election which is acknowledged by Marigold’s friend Roberts, during one of her visits. But Stephanie Bond does not write a spoiler. Since this part of the novel end on 30 November, we can assume that Bond knew who won, but she is keeping the knowledge secret.
Coma Girl part 4 ended with more than a hint of violence but I don’t want to spoil that for people who have yet to read that part. I remember that I wrote part 4 ended with one of the biggest surprises to date (that point of the story) and I couldn’t imagine a more surprising cliffhanger (not ending). But part 5 did it. Enjoy the journey as we go from 01 Nov to 30 Nov and see how Marigold’s dysfunctional family is faring. Marigold thinks, listens, and perceives smells but she doesn’t tell any tales, at least not yet.
Sydney, Marigold’s sister, will adopt a new attitude in her relationship with Marigold. She will also encounter a few surprises with her lawyer boyfriend and part time agent who handles money derived from Marigold’s social media fame.
Marigold’s mom will have increased success as a real estate agent. Dad will have less success as a martial arts devotee.
Marigold will learn to appreciate Russian classical music and will count an amazing number of bell rings that contribute to her enjoyment
Sister Irene visits often but the new she has for Marigold is not the type of news that would inspire Marigold to greater church attendance, even if she could go.
In part 4 Marigold is made privy to a big secret about Dad. He told her his secret during a visit.
In part 5 Marigold is going to hear a big secret from Mom.
If a person (Roberta) steals money to enter a program to cure them of stealing money will the contradictions cause some sort of personality implosion?
On-going mysteries:
Where is a very personal diary written by Marigold?
How is the impending marriage going for Duncan?
Why are Winnie and Faridee snorting Stevia? And what is Stevia, anyway? Does it involve burning candles?
Audrey Parks, a former coma patient who woke up to an existence with unexpected outcomes, returns to Coma Girl’s room (the vegetable patch) for a final visit. How did that go
This is a very fast-paced novel with so many surprises that I only want to hint at to avoid writing spoilers. I wonder if critics (professionals, not me) will consider this novel the basis of a new genre.
