Witnessing a prison break, FBI agent Julianne Martinez is within seconds of death…before she's rescued by the one man she thought she'd never see again. She'd know her long-ago love, Brody Kenner, anywhere, even with a sheriff star on his chest. Years ago she left Texas and Brody, and had no plans of returning…until the trail of a missing agent brought her home to both. Brody won't let her investigation proceed without him, and he needs her and her K-9 dog to track his escaped prisoner. But partnering with Julianne to solve two cases only leads to danger when the hunted becomes the hunter. This is a mission that cannot fail…because Brody lost Julianne once, and he won't lose her again.
This is a Second Chance Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Classified K-9 Unit Book series. I read the first book in this series before I picked up this book. I loved the characters and dogs in this book, and I also could feel the connection between the two main characters. I love the fast paced and all the action in this book. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Title: Sheriff Author: Laura Scott Series: Classified K-9 Unit Format: ebook (bind-up) Length: 224 pages Rating: 3 stars
Synopsis: HAZARDOUS HOMECOMING Witnessing a prison break, FBI agent Julianne Martinez is within seconds of death…before she's rescued by the one man she thought she'd never see again. Favourite character: Thunder Least favourite character: N/A
Mini-review: This was okay. It felt a bit too... forgiving? Like Julianne left Brody 6 years prior to the book and she wasn't mad at him? At all? Like maybe a little bit at the beginning. But all the tension and stuff isn't there. The main tension is Brody being unable to forgive himself or being unable to let things go, like your typical guy, I guess? Guys in books seem to always behave like this. Dudes, please explain. I love the fact that this series features dogs though, so that all makes up for it.
2.5 stars I liked the characters...but oh, the comma splices and run-ons! At least forty instances of a comma being used to join random phrases, to the point where a few sentences didn't even make sense. Laura Scott has always been hit or miss for me—I guess it depends on the editor—and this one barely escaped a two star rating, because the punctuation and grammar were just so crazy. Also, there were a few weird things that wouldn't be accurate, like when the sheriff asks Julianne if she minds him driving when she accepts a ride in his squad car. Duh!
Otherwise, it was a good story, and I absolutely had fun reading about the dog, Tracker, and his talents.
I'm enjoying this canine suspense series written by various authors. Laura Scott picks up the hunt for the illusive Dupre crime family when FBI agent Julianne Martinez is in Texas following a lead. When she witnesses a prison van break, she finds herself face-to-face with her old flame, Sheriff Brody Kenner. While they hunt down leads for the escapee, they find that their two cases are intertwined and things take a sinister turn. Can they lay aside past hurts and disappointments to track the killers and bring them to justice?
Second in the Classified K-9 Unit inspirational romantic suspense series revolving around a K-9 Unit of FBI dogs and their partners. The couple focus here is on Julianne Martinez and Brody Kenner.
I received this copy from a friend.
My Take The story concept is good, and I love the dogs. Especially how well they respond, but there were so many niggles in this. If he's any good as a sheriff, Brody should have been checking out his past childhood friends at once. At least "knowing" he'd prove they had nothing to do with it. As for getting married? Yeah, the FBI always puts married couples together in a partnership. Oy.
As for Julianne and her breaking up with Brody because he felt loyalty to a friend? Oh, yeah. Again. Yeah, I'd want someone to betray a friend immediately if someone else had suspicions. God forbid I should appreciate someone being loyal.
It was also incredibly irritating how both protagonists kept harping on the past. As for the God angle. Please. It sounded more like the publisher said "oh, yeah, make sure you include God".
This is the second book of the continuity series Classified K-9 Unit. I have enjoyed these first two books and look forward to the next one. This story is well written, action packed, and full of twists and turns. I know you are going to love this book. FBI Agent Julianne Martinez is a member of an elite K-9 unit. The team has followed the case of a missing fellow agent down to Texas to her small home town. She is investigating her case when she witnesses a prison break. The shooter kills the driver of the prison van then turns to her to kill her. Before he can shoot her she is rescued by the man that she once loved but left behind. She never thought she would see him again. Will she have the strengh to leave him again if they spend time together on this case? Sheriff Brody Kenner is after an escaped prisoner. This man was the same man that broke up his relationship with the only woman he has ever loved. He is able to save Julianne but can he continue to keep her safe? Will his drive to protect her come between them? He won't let her go again, he must figure out a way to make it work. A reunion of two broken souls. Each one had believed they were right now the whole case was blowing up in their face. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. They were meant to be together. God has a plan for you too and it will be far greater than you ever imagined. Surrender your heart to Him and watch Him work.
After 6 long years was she ready to see Brody again? Could she put her heart and feelings aside long enough to focus on the job and the escaped convict and his accomplice to stay out of harms way?
FBI agent Julianna Martinez and her K9 partner Thunder make quite the impression on Brody and his deputies. Can he come to terms with his guilt and overcome their past to see something in their future?
Julianna and Brody become temporary partners to solve a jail break and a missing FBI agent. After 4 attempts on their lives time is running out and they need to put the puzzle pieces together and solve the crimes before their lives are at stake again. The twists and turns in their story are good however it was a little hard to follow in some parts. I think not reading the first book left me a little confused however for the most part I was able to follow along.
I was super dissatisfied in the ending! They have been through so much together and neither wants to say goodbye how matter how short of a time it will be before they are together again.
This is a sweet second chance romance. Brody & Julianne were a couple in college. Their youth, trust issues and career choices broke them apart. Now Brody is Sheriff of the county that Julianne, in her role as an FBI K9 agent, with canine partner Thunder, is assigned on a mission. Working related cases they find the same spark from their past, but also realize they have matured and now respect each other. In an Intriguing plot, these two follow the clues in a convoluted mystery that is fast paced and filled with surprising twists and turns. Danger plagues them but their faith, training and talents provide realistic responses to their dilemmas. This story really shows reassuring support for law enforcement and their canine partners.
Julianne had left Texas for the FBI academy, and she thought her boyfriend Brody was leaving with her, but a disagreement separated them. After six years Julianne is back in Texas searching for a missing agent and trying to bring down a Mafia family. In the middle of that she get caught in the middle of a prison break and her former boyfriend Sheriff Brody Kenner. This book has action from beginning to end. Sometimes things does not work out the first time around, our time is not God's time if we trust and believe in the Creator things will work out in his way and in his time.
I found myself really connecting with Julianne Martinez who’s an FBI Agent and has a K -9 partner named Thunder. She’s on assignment back in Texas trying to find one of their agents Jake Morrow who was taken by the Dupree crime family but instead she witnesses a jail break and is almost shot. Sheriff Brody Kenner who is onto the jail break and is trying to thwart the escape comes across a gunmen getting ready to shoot his past love. Now Brody and Julianne are forced to work together to solve an age old decade murder and human traffickers old love is rekindled as well as past hurts. Can Brody and Julianne solve this case before its to late?
3.5 rating. Second book in Classified K9 Unit: FBI series. Laura Scott wrote this installment and I enjoyed it a lot. FBI agent Julianne Martinez has gone home to small-town Clover, Texas to followup on a lead about her missing team mate, Jake Morrow. He was wounded and kidnapped at the beginning of the series. While in Clover Julianne witnessed a prison break and runs into her ex-fiancé, Sheriff Brody Kenner. They become partners in searching for the fugitive, Nate Otwell, and searching for Jake. Ms. Scott wrote a very fast paced and well organized story in the series. The characters were interesting and the plot kept moving. I couldn’t put it down.
I am hooked on this series. I loved book one Guardian, so I had to buy book 2. I am glad I did. The books can be read as standalones.
This book was a second chance romance for FBI agent Julianne, and Sheriff Brody Kenner. The action and suspense were intense. I loved Julianne’s K-9 partner Thunder. The dog was good at it’s job, and saved Julianne several times throughout the book. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Great book! This book has multiple story lines all weaving together keeping the reader guessing as to who's who and how, and if, the puzzle pieces all fit. It was an engaging read, and, as always, I loved the K-9 thread! Laura Scott is one of my favorite authors and I liked the honesty that not every Law Enforcement Officer appreciated K-9's until they were able to see them in action. It amazes me what these K-9's can be trained to do. They truly are Officers in their own right!
Sheriff is part of the Classified K-9 series and I want to read the rest. A FBI agent, Julianne Martinez, witnessed an escape by a prisoner and murder of a Sheriff's deputy. Her partner, Thunder, protects her on several occasions. Local sheriff, Brody, needs Juianne and her partner to help him recapture the prisoner and find out who killed his deputy. They have a past which could get in the way. Lots of mystery until the end.
This author is really hit or miss for me. I haven’t really enjoyed her k-9 books as much as some of her other work for some reason. I think it’s because these latest books of hers seem to go on forever, like she’s all about reaching a certain word count, no matter the content. The pacing was off for me and I felt like it dragged on and was repetitive. Once again, I DNF. I keep downloading her books thinking they will get better but, for me, this series is a miss.
A nice read that didn’t take me long to finish. I enjoyed the story it has a nice amount of suspense with twist and turns. I enjoyed the two main characters and that their careers brought them back to each other. My one disappointment was I felt like it ended too soon. A very nice and wholesome read.
Good one. Longer story of an FBI K-9 handler and her long-lost love. They broke apart when they were too young to realize the damage they were doing to their lives. They find each other again when the case of the missing FBI agent and the escaped mob boss runs through their old hometown, where he is now the sheriff.
an ebook story of law enforcement series. K-9 working dogs and their officers/trainers. An episode where a past relationship reunites in a work environment. evidence show up that past judgments were not innocent. (We all like to think good of people but when they show the bad side, it hurts when we've been way off and we need God to heal)
CHI Agent Julianne Martinez is reacquainted with her college love while chasing a suspect in a case. He is following the bus taking a prisoner off to prison knowing there is a possibility that he might have partners trying to release him. When the two cases intersect they work together in solving them both.
Loved this story! Brody and Julienne broke up years ago but ran into each other when they were both working a case. Brody saved her life when a escaped inmate pointed a gun at her. They decide to join forces to work on their cases and realize that their love for one another never went away. Can they overcome their last mistakes and trust one another again?
Another great story. Romance (clean and wholesome), drama and action all rolled up into a really good book. And you can't go wrong when there are dogs in the story too!
