He's a methodical planner. She impulsively acts on instinct. Both strategies have merit -- the trick is in knowing which tactic is right for what situation. That's a battle Sean and Deanna reenact over and over againd as they face impossible odds. If the drug smugglers don't do them in, the raging wildfires will. Heart-stopping action punctuated by the sweet stirrings of romance make this the kind of read you'll want to devour in one sitting.

Crash Landing had an intriguing premise but the romance and characters didn’t work for me.

After the horse he just shelled out $50,000 for goes missing, Sean Loomis hires pilot Deanna Jackson to help him track down the horse. With wildfires moving closer every minute, time isn’t on their side. But when Deanna and Sean discover an illegal drug smuggling operation on a remote section of Sean’s land, they have more to worry about than just the fires. Now on the run from the criminals involved, it will take everything Sean and Deanna have to stay a step ahead and keep themselves alive.

The plot of the drug smuggling was an interesting one and I found myself invested in finding out who was involved and how they managed to set up on Sean’s land without him knowing. We do learn pretty quickly that some people Sean and Deanna are acquainted with are mixed up in the smuggling and I enjoyed watching the two have to come to terms with the fact they didn’t know these people as well as they thought. I thought the author did a great job holding back bits of information to reveal later on and I thought some of what we learn near the end of the book added an interesting twist.

Deanna and Sean’s romance has hints of a second chance love story as the two went to high school together before losing touch after graduating. Now Sean works at his family’s ranch while Deanna owns a coffee shop in town. Going into this book, I somehow missed that this book was a Love Inspired Suspense book (I thought it was a Harlequin Romantic Suspense book which is my fault for not checking), so I was a bit thrown when Sean turned out to be quite religious. The pair bicker back and forth about Sean’s tendency to stop and pray as Deanna is initially not religious (although she does become so later in the book) and I got fairly annoyed at the storyline. Their conversations never leaned towards banter, which I enjoy, and stayed firmly in the bickering category. Also their romance was more on the tame side whereas I prefer my romances explicit, but again this is due to my not realizing the book was in a line I don't read.

Ultimately Crash Landing didn’t work for me and I wish I had realized it was christian fiction before picking it up as that’s not a genre I typically enjoy. But the plot was a good one, so if you’re a fan of christian romances then I would recommend it.

"Avella’s latest book demonstrates how life-altering events can put problems in our daily life in perspective. The characters’ journeys to trusting God strengthens their development. The suspense is palpable throughout" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

A standalone inspirational romantic suspense story involving Deanna Jackson and Sean Loomis.

My Take
Okay. A little rough around the edges, and yet another "inspired" story in which "insert 'God' here" is mandated. That was mean. Avella actually did a better job of spreading the inspiration throughout her story than previous writers, but it still had that manufactured feel to it.

Going on, Avella certainly had the suspense down. And that ending! Whoo-ee. Yep, that was a twister of a surprise. The romantic development was sweet as well, as Avella took her time without an overabundance of the whiny thoughts stirring on either side.

I didn't care for Deanna's character, although I appreciate that she came to see that about herself. As for Sean, yeah, he was too good to be true.

It's too bad that Avella didn't take advantage of the emotional wreckage that had to be going on for everyone. I mean, a forest fire that is engulfing people's homes and ranches? You'd think that would be worth some good show, but, oh well.

I reviewed this for RT Bookreviews Magazine: https://www.rtbookreviews.com/book-re...

Avella’s latest book demonstrates how life-altering events can put problems in our daily life in perspective. The characters’ journeys to trusting God strengthens their development. The suspense is palpable throughout.

Amid worrying about approaching wildfires, pilot Deanna Jackson encounters rancher Sean Loomis, who wants to hire her to help him track down his runaway stallion. Along the way, they discover illegal activity taking place on outlying parts of his ranch. Their plane goes down, and they find themselves face-to-face with armed thugs. Will they be able to outwit the criminals, as well as outrun the growing wildfires, which are complicating the matter? Could someone Sean knows and trusts be behind the operation? Very good

This book had a little bit of everything, wild fire, betrayal, attempted murder, murder, drugs, illegal weapons, and a little bit of psycho. Sean hires Deanna to help him find a beautiful horse he had just purchased, during the search they find a whole lot more. Deanna who growing up believed in God but after one comment by her father no longer believes. Sean the one who's father has been missing for six years is a faithful believer in the all mighty. Two different people that God brings together to help each other mend. A lot of suspense, I thought I figured out who the leader of the bad guys were, I was so so wrong.

Awesome plot, great characters, a surprising twist! Couldn't ask for a better story. Crash Landing is Becky Avella's second book with Love Inspired Suspense. Sean Loomis was one of my favorite male characters so far! I got a little teary eyed by the end!

This author is my favorite of those who write for this series. I’m sad she only has two books so far, but I will definitely be on the lookout for more. Her writing is thorough and the romance and faith are not ridiculously cheesy like so often is the case with Christian romance novels.

The action never slowed.
The hero and heroine were a little younger than I'm used to reading, but I still loved it. The author did a great job mixing in the romance while still keeping the suspense high. This is the first book I've read by Becky, but I'll definitely keep watch for when she has more books coming out.

Disclaimer: I received this book early from the author, but that in no way influenced my review.
